I took my 20- and 21-year old nephews to Hawaii to celebrate my 60th birthday, and we had the good fortune to stay at the Kailua Wave guesthouse. What a treat! The indoor photos are completely accurate (the outdoor patio is fine for storing beach stuff and using the grill, but it was a bit small for three of us to eat outside), the place was spotlessly clean, the owner was exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the neighborhood was quiet but easily accessible from the Safeway shopping center in one direction and the town of Kailua in the other. All told, the apartment was very tastefully decorated - not like so many tacky vacation rentals, the queen bed was quite comfortable (my needs for a firm bed with good foam pillows were happily met), the trundle twin beds in the livingroom were perfect for my very tall nephews, the laundry room and A/C were assets, the kitchen was functional and well-stocked, and windows on all four sides of the apartment were conducive to nice cross breezes. And then there was the two-block walk to a stunningly beautiful, uncrowded neighborhood beach! The water was warm, the surf was perfect for swimming and boogie-boarding (boards provided by our hosts), and the beach was lovely for morning or evening walks at the edge of the water. We didn't even think about going to the nearby beach parks because the area right at the end of the footpath was perfect. I've stayed in posh hotels on business travel all over the world, and I would go back to this place in a heartbeat. It was great for our family's purposes; it would be equally perfect for a couple or a single. I would feel completely comfortable being there on a romantic vacation or alone for a quiet getaway with lots of reading time and walks on the beach.

My wife and I were visiting family in Hawaii with our 2 young children in tow (3.5 yrs & 10 months). We have outgrown my in-law's guest quarters and needed a "place of our own" to set up camp. Enter the Kailua Wave. This unit served us very well. It was the perfect size, very clean, safe & secure and came with every possible amenity we required. We began each day with a walk on the beach and the inevtiable sand castle construction demanded by my daughter. The owner provides you with many extras including beach towels, a beach umbrella, sand and other toys for the kids, WiFi access, and essentially a fully equipped kitchen area. The bedroom was big enough for all four of us to sleep. We were provided a pack n play for the baby and well as a very nice high chair for him. There is an A/C unit in the BR which kept the room cool when the kids went to sleep. However, just open the windows and utilize the retractable screen door and you will get very cool ocean breezes passing through. The sound of the ocean will ease you to sleep each night. Kailua is a fantastic town! I highly recommend eating at Cinamon's and grabbing shave ice at Island Snow. One word of caution, the unit is above a garage so there are some stairs to climb. Not a problem for us but if you are limited in that respect this may not be the place for you. All in all the Kailua Wave is a great rental that has much to offer. We all really enjoyed our time here.

The Kailua Wave was all we had looked forward to and more. Super clean, beautifully decorated and spacious living, with plenty of privacy and quiet. The galley kitchen was really well equipped and the private lower patio had a nice grill making up for a range in the kitchen. Loved having our own laundry. The nearby beach & park was gorgeous and restroom/shower facilities were nice. Nikki (owner) was excellent in her email/phone responses and handling our dates. She even had a welcome basket and fresh beverages waiting for us. We're ready to rebook whenever we can be so lucky to return. Very hard to wave good-bye to Kailua Wave.

The location of the apartment was ideal for us. It's a two minute walk from a gorgeous beach. We discovered that it is a 30 minute walk up the beach to Kailua State Beach Park and a bar/restaurant called Buzz's. We also walked to breakfast and the little town several times and that took less than 15 minutes. The apartment was cute, comfortable, clean and decent sized. It was stocked with lots of necessities (as well as toys for our one-year-old - very thoughtful!). We had one small issue with the showerhead while we were there and the owner came in that day and fixed it. It was also very private, we stayed there for one week and never even saw the people in the main house. It made for a very nice week in a gorgeous little town. I recommend!

We had a great time during our stay on Oahu and the "Kailua Wave" guesthouse was a key component in our enjoyment. The property was extremely clean and showed in person as well as it does in the photos represented on this site. It's proximity to beautiful Kailua Beach was a blessing considering we have two young kids and the beach toys at the property came in very handy as well. In addition, having a washer and dryer available in the apartment was very convenient. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone and especially those that have kids. We enjoyed shopping and dining in Kailua and would recommend stopping by the Kailua Thursday Night Farmers Market. They had good food as well as local produce available at a decent price. Once again, this was a great rental and one we plan to utilize in the future.

Hi Beate & Rainer, thank you so much for the wonderful vacation we had in your home. We stayed in May, 2009 for 10 days. What a great place! The house is very clean and comfortable. The location is amazing, steps away from beautiful Kailua beach. We highly recommend this house. Again, thank you so much! Sergey & Olga

"Kailua Wave" has what I consider to be the three "C's" of travel - it is clean, convenient, and comfortable! From the minute we stepped inside the apartment, until the moment we loaded up the rental car to go home, it was a wonderful location for this family with two small children. We explored Kailua and the other North Shore areas with minimal cries of "are we there yet?"! We especially liked Kailua Beach Park's beauty and convenience. Mahalo! Thank you again! It was a spectacular trip!
