Keep your boat in the water at the dock out back (within 20 feet of the back door) or just enjoy the coastal environment. You and the kids can fish along the bulkhead/docks under the lights at night. Take a kayak adventure on the Packery Channel and the surrounding coastal flats area where fishing and birding can be very productive. Surfing, windsurfing the SE tradewind, migratory waterfowl hunting, and water skiing are also regular outdoor opportunities in the Laguna. There is a large Pool shared by the residents of Puente Vista for an afternoon freshwater swim. Drive to the beach at Padre Balli Park or to the Bob Hall Pier in 5 minutes. The Packery Channel provides an open waterway pass for boat access to the Gulf of Mexico (appx 3 miles from the condo – 10 minute boat ride) between the newly constructed jetties. The jetties can also be a productive fishing spot to target Tarpon, Snook, King and Spanish Mackerel and the ever-popular Redfish.

Drive to the Gulf of Mexico Beach in 5-minutes or to the Corpus Christi marina in 10-minutes (very convenient location). Port Aransas is a 30-minute drive north on the island via 361. Bayfront Condo on the Laguna Madre (Padre Island)

Year Purchased: 2001

Why the Owner Chose Corpus Christi

The Laguna Madre area provides all sorts of outdoor activities with access to the blue water of the Gulf of Mexico via the Packery Channel jetty. Easy auto/bike access to the Gulf of Mexico beaches. Quick access to downtown Corpus Christi and a manageable drive (20 minutes) to Port Aransas. Unobstructed views of the JFK Causeway and Laguna Madre sunset. And immediate access out the condo door to the boat dock to keep boat in the water while you're down.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo

Unobstructed views of the JFK Causeway and Laguna Madre sunset. Out the door access to the boat at the dock (25'). Kayak from the dock to good fishing and birding water in the Laguna Madre flats. HD LCD-TV and wifi internet access.

A
Gulf of Mexico Beach Front/Bob Hall Fishing Pier

You can access the Gulf of Mexico Beach front from many different spots, closest is 3 miles from the condo. Rmemeber that on the Texas beach front you can drive. Some areas require 4 wheel drive although if you stay on the path well traveled 2 wheel drive is fine most of the time.

B
Packery Channel Jetty (walk & kayak fishing/beach)

Pass to the Gulf of Mexico by boats large and small. Also an excellent place to fish from the rocks and easily accessable by foot. I prefer the south jetty.

C
Padre Isles Golf and Country Club

Golf isn't my cup of tea, but Padre Isles Country Club is also a "Certified Audobon Cooperative Sanctuary". http://www.padreislescc.com/

D
Condo Pool

less than 1 block from the condo front door (2 minute walk). Also this is where the coin laundry is located.

E
Snoopys Restaurant & Marker 37 Bait

Eat fish and shrimp off of paper plates. Snoopys is a local experience you should try at least once. Big atmosphere & views. Cash only. Buy bait and launch your boat next door at M37.

F
HEB Food Store/Kayak Rentals

Exit onto Waldron Rd. Watch closely if you are traveling back toward the mainland because it is the exit just BEFORE the end of the causeway. It is huge and even has some beach and fishing tackle. Also there are a couple places to rent kayaks along the road - Wind and Wave www.windandwave.net on the southside and Jerry B's jerrybskayaks.com the northside.

G
Padre Island Burger Company

Best Hamburger on the island...at $8 but includes fries. Also a nice place to grab a cold beer out of the sun.

H
Bluffs Landing Marina & Laguna Reef Restaurant

Excellent seafood restaurant accessable by boat - cut across the Laguna Madre or follow ther marked channels via the New Humble channel, or travel there by car on Laguna Shores Rd - to the end.

I
Park

Fishing,floundering, bird watching, kayaking, hiking

J
The Pelican Lounge

Local "watering" hole. On weekends they usually have a good band and other nights Karyoke or poker...must say they have an outstanding group of shuffle board players.

K
Jesse's Fine Spirits (and a new Thai Restaurant)

Liquor store on the corner sells ice for .50 per bag. A new Thai restaraunt is going in. I haven't tried it, but it is going to be very convenient and I love Thai food!

M
Ace hardware and Tackle Shop

If you gotta have it, this is close.

N
Worldwinds Windsurfing

This is the place to windsurf. The prevailing SE wind avgs 20MPH from March through July. A world renowned area for windsurfing. There are sometimes 50 on the water. Lessons available. www.worldwinds.net

O
Public Boat Ramp

Nice launch and no cost. There are actually several in this area including a nice one at Marker 37. Pick the one that seems best for your boat.

P
Padre Island National Seashore (PINS)

Fishing,Exploring,Camping...70 miles of untamed seashore accessable (4 wheelers only). A National Park so the entrance fee is $10 for 7 days. Also Bird Island boat launch & Worldwinds windsurfing.

Q
Wilsons Cut (walk or kayak fishing/birding)

Boat launch and excellent wade and kayak fishing area. Shamrock Island Cove is great protected water for kayaking.

R
Packery Channel Park (walk or kayak fishing/birding)

Drive in Fishing, kayaking and Birding

S
Fish Pass Park (walk or kayak fishing/birding area)

Another excellent park and walk/kayak in fishing area.

T
Kates Hole (walk or kayak fishing/birding)

You can access this area by car and then wade or kayak in. Can be an excellent early morning fishing spot in the summer months

U
Clems Bait & Tackle

My favorite place for live bait. It's been here forever. They have a fishing pier into the ICW too. There are public boat launches all along this area.

V
Roys Tackle (has it all)

Includes rod and reel repair shop. All manner of tackle, lures, equipment...a TRUE Superstore for fisherman. Also WestMarine and Ronnies Boats are right here.

W
Padre Island Baptist Church

Gotta go OTB (over the bridge) back to the main land, but this is one of the best "comfort"food joints around. Wait staff is there for you. I haven;t tried it all...just eat the special when I go. They're not trying to immitate anything, just making good tasting food.

X
Treasure Island Golf and Games

Minature Golf, kids stuff. T-shirt and shell shops dot this area.

Y
Marina & T-Heads, State Aquarium, USS Lexington

Owner's Map of Corpus Christi

We are a family of 4 that love outdoor activities, water sports, fishing and hunting. Dad fishes, Mom kayaks, we all walk the beaches and Packery Jetty and ride bikes down Ocean Drive (excellent biking trail). Son (college)hunts duck, hangs at the beaches with friends. Daughter (highschool) loves the beach, kayaking, fishing and swimming, and enjoys hanging out at the Packery Jetty.

Great Location

Guest: happytraveler (Texas)
Date of Stay: 08/17/11 Review Submitted: 08/30/11

The condo is clean and has a great location. We had a great time! The owner was great to work with! Somethings that you may want to know before you go are that the washer and dryer are in a hot room by the pool. The tempeture in the condo was ok for me. I had two men who like it cooler and they were a little warm. If you sleep with the door open we found it to be cooler in the bedrooms. I would recomend this condo to someone who doesnt run on the hot side. I enjoyed my time. Be sure to look out the balcony you can see the fish swimming in the water! Bring your fishing pole! Place to fish right off the back of the condo!

Owner response:No doubt about it, this August was as hot as it's ever been in south Texas. The HVAC is brand spanking new and working at peak performance, but the condo was built in 1974. Normally it's cool enough.

Perfect getaway

Guest: Lorrie (Taylor)
Date of Stay: 06/08/11 Review Submitted: 06/16/11

We stayed at this condo from 6/8/11-6/12/11 for our annual fishing trip. It was absolutely perfect. The kitchen is well equipped for those that enjoy cooking and the deck overlooking the bay was very nice. It was very convenient being able to dock our boat right outside the room at the pier. Thanks for a great place. Lorrie - Taylor, TX

Owner response:Thank you for the kind response Lorrie. We're always happy when guests have a goodtime at the condo. I hope you have an opportunity to come back soon!

Great Stay Even in the Heat

Guest: Matt (Fort Worth)
Date of Stay: 08/02/10 Review Submitted: 08/08/10

My family's stay at the condo couldn't have gone better. The condo is exactly like you describe it. The sunsets alone are worth it. The condo is within 5 minutes of just about any amenity you would want while staying near the ocean. The rooms were comfortable, the view is wonderful, and even the fishing was good just off the docks behind the condo. My family couldn't have been happier during our vacation.

Very Comfortable Condo! Great Location!

Guest: Sara (Rogers, TX)
Date of Stay: 07/26/10 Review Submitted: 08/06/10

Mr. Rogers, thanks so much for letting us use your condo. Everything we needed was there, including trash bags, toilet paper, hand and dish soap, etc. (unlike other places we have stayed!). It was very comfortable--felt like home--and in a terrific location. I also liked the second bedroom's accommodations. It was easy to get my two young children to sleep. We look forward to contacting you again next summer!

Perfect for fishermen

Guest: Hook 'Em (Karnes Co, TX)
Date of Stay: 06/15/10 Review Submitted: 08/04/10

If you have 3-6 fishermen and want to leave your boat on the water on the ULM, I can't imagine a better set-up. We fished early morning and late afternoon and didn't have to mess with trailering the boat. Dock and cleaning table right out back. Ample parking. Boat ride to eat under the JFK bridge. Awesome sunsets. Well-stocked kitchen. Follow directions for AC unit and everything works great. Owner very friendly and accomodating. Will be a frequent user.

Beach Vacation

Guest: SDB (Fort Worth, Texas )
Date of Stay: 08/12/09 Review Submitted: 08/04/10

My family and I had a great get-away. The accomadations were very clean and comfortable. We loved the balcony that looks out to Laguna Madre. The only thing we found a bit uncomfortable was that it was a bit hot in the condo in the evening and at night.

Owner response:We replaced the old unit outside this month (June 2011). It's still an older building, so it won't ever be ice cold with exterior doors opening and the sun setting in the west....but its comfortable. I still think it best to keep the thermostat on the AC above 78 degrees during the afternoon hours of July and August...but you can lower the temp to 70 during the evening and morning for better sleeping comfort (we also have ceiling fans in all rooms including the kitchen, dining, living, and bedrooms). High traffic in and out (like kids will do) can compound the issue. These buildings were built in the 1970's so they just aren't efficient. We do have solar screens on the windows plus indoor wood shutters facing the sunset to relieve some of the dead-on heat factor. It is just hot in south Texas during these months. Spring and fall are recommended for milder temps and breezy evenings with the windows open.
