Newly set up as a vacation home, this one bedroom hillside cottage (2 blocks from the ocean) has great Wi-Fi, DVD player with 30 DVD's (watch TV, movies from your computer), an ocean view deck, BBQ, patio furniture, umbrella, and chaise lounges. This classic home, built in 1923, has original redwood floors, open beam rooms and a classic 20's feel. It has been moderately remodeled, repainted, and includes a gas fireplace with fan, a newer stove and refrigerator, a fully stocked kitchen with a microwave and programmable coffeemaker, coffee grinder, blender, etc., an old, classic farmhouse drop leaf table and chairs, a down-filled couch, leather reading chair/ottoman and up/down window shades so you can sit and watch the ocean, sunsets, the main drag, and the Bolinas coast. The bedroom has a brand new Posturpedic queen mattress on a platform frame ('very comfortable!'). There is a very large armoire closet to hang your clothes and/or store suitcases. There is also a shelf and clothes rod that run the full length of the bedroom. We provide very nice linens, towels, beach chairs and beach towels, and some games and books. There is a landline phone, a Bose stereo/radio/CD player (bring your favorite CD's). In town, here is a classic general store, library (join and you can check out DVD's and CD's), gym, bookstore, art galleries, florist, quaint post office, health and wellness center for massages and chiropractic, a medical center, a park, a church, a community center (walk to the wedding!) and 3+ restaurants; a couple with live music. Stinson is the classic small town but without a gas station (fill up before you come!). The Audubon Society has a bird sanctuary down the road where you can watch egrets nest in June and July. Several hiking and biking trails start in Stinson and the notorious Dipsea foot race from Mill Valley ends here. From the San Francisco Chronicle 7/25/14: 'Stinson Beach in Marin County has just about everything you could ask for in a Bay Area beach. Best all-around!! Stinson Beach In a nutshell: Stinson Beach has pretty much everything you could want in a Northern California beach. Clearer weather than San Francisco, natural beauty and enough space to deal with the often sizable weekend crowds. Sights: Scenic views of Point Reyes and the cliffy coastline. Numerous hiking trails in the vicinity, including the popular Dipsea Trail, a 9.5-mile round trip that leads from Muir Beach across creeks and stunning hills down to the coast. Kid friendliness: A perfect spot for kids. Enough said. Dog friendliness: Dogs are allowed on leash, but only on the middle section of the beach, also known as Upton Beach. Food: There are plenty of good restaurants, from burger joints to upscale cafes, in the town of Stinson Beach. Cost: Free parking.'
'Best for kids and dogs: Nearby Muir Beach In a nutshell: Cross the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin and wind along the excessively curvy Highway 1 for 15 minutes and you will reach Muir Beach, a lovely getaway in a quiet cove. Check the weather ahead of time and you might luck out with a clear day. Sights: The beautiful Redwood Creek meets the ocean in the Muir Beach cove. The recently renovated area features a nice walkway by the creek, which serves as a habitat for lots of local flora and fauna, including the California newt and the coho salmon. Kid friendliness: The protected cove and clean water beg for kid play. Dog friendliness: Very. Dogs are allowed off leash. Food: There is only one restaurant within a 10-minute drive of Muir Beach, a British tavern at the Pelican Inn by Highway 1. More options are farther north in Stinson Beach or south in Mill Valley. Best to bring a picnic. Cost: Parking is free.'

About the owner: I have been in Marin for 23 years, after living on Maui for 17. I am a psychotherapist in San Francisco and, unfortunately, the commute was just too far to live in my cottage. I recently moved to Sausalito and created this wonderful vacation rental for others to enjoy.
Why the Owner Chose Stinson Beach: This cottage is so classic, I couldn't resist! I grew up in Northern Michigan on Lake Michigan, we had a cottage on a lake, I lived on Maui and in San Francisco in the 70's. I like the relaxed, shorts and t-shirts, vacation-style of living in Stinson Beach. The cottage is quickly walkable to the beach, stores, trails, and restaurants, which the beachfront houses are not (more driving!). You can park your car and leave it and still do a multitude of things!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: This is such a classic cottage that has one of the best locations in Stinson: views and short walkability to everything. Each night I went to sleep with the sound of the waves crashing (the winter is fabulous!). There are oodles of hummingbirds, and Bolinas Lagoon is famous for bird watching.
