Taos cottage description
Casita Juliet has it all for the single traveler or couple. Located on a quiet, downtown street and five minute walk to the Plaza. It is a one bedroom (Queen) little home with a well equipped kitchen, separate eating area, large living room ( couch could sleep one additional guest or child comfortably). It is decorated in my style of antiques, art and whimsy. This is the newest of my five Taos rentals and will soon prove to be as popular as the rest. Folks just seem to love my 'Melissiana' style.
Casita Juliet has all new appliances, dishes and kitchenware, towels and bedding in a charming intimate yet roomy little house. It has two outdoor living areas and of course a ridiculous number of plants--a signature of mine...
Although there are two homes on this property, both have a feeling of privacy with separate off street parking, garden and outdoor living spaces.
Casita Juliet can also be combined with the main house 'Casa Madre' as a family compound for a larger group of up to 12.
The property is fenced and pet friendly. (pet fee)
EXCITING NEWS!!! Casita Juliet and main home Casa Madre (Vrbo 482097) have been chosen to be on this coming summer Taos Home & Garden Tour. From foreclosures to Garden Tour quality. Quite a compliment to me and my style. They will show folks that you do not have to be wealthy to be on the tour. A good eye, a house with good bones, a bit of money, a LOT of work and a sense of creativity and whimsy...

Kitchen table note...
Hi Melissa, My family so enjoyed our stay in Taos. Casita Juliet has everything a small family needs--comfortable and nice and toasty upon our arrival late in the evening--a real treat for sure! Casita Juliet was a perfect home base as we explored everything and no downtown parking hassles. You were right. We could walk everywhere. We'll be back for sure!

Thanks so much... kitchen table note
I want to say what a delightful week I had in Taos and especially in your lovely, unique apartment. I can't wait to return and see the one you are working on downstairs. It looks like it will be every bit as special as The Red Cat House! I will return and thanks so much for your wonderful hospitality and all the help and information you shared with me.

Casita Juliet ~ A TRUE TREASURE ;)
Casita Juliet ~ A TRUE TREASURE ;)
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! This was undeniably a favorite in our book!! We travel often and stay in Many vacation homes & this is at the Top Of The List! This casita was so lovingly decorated with such attention to detail ... It makes you feel like a true part of Taos Culture! Melissa, The owner of this property is truly amazing, warm & wonderful and it shows in her vacation rentals! She is extremly responsive and most importantly honest. The pictures on the website are great but this casita is even better in person!. We honestly felt so at home ... We didn't feel like we were renting. WE truly believe the experience was such a success due to the dedication of the owner, Melissa. She even rescued us one night when we had car trouble ... Way ABOVE & Beyond!! She really understands the concept of a real get-away and this was apparent in the quality & care put into the decor of Casita Juliet ... Her treasures are like little surprises everyday and it was wonderful to be the first guests!! Melissa's dedication to providing the best possible experience for us was amazing. We would recommend this property or one of her other OUTSTANDING properties to everyone interested in visiting the Taos area. Thank you Melissa for such a wonderful experience ... we will return again & again!! Nicolle, Robert & Bella

Owner response: Nicolle, thank you SO much for the great review! My first one!!! I really enjoyed meeting you, Robert and the amazing Ms Bella. I'm so glad you loved Casita Juliet. I put so much of myself into all of my rentals and obviously guests appreciate my efforts Casita Juliet is one of my favorites of my five vacation rentals. Well, that's not really true. I love them all. It's all so rewarding -- from the initial effort of reclaiming neglected properties, furnishing and decorating and then sharing with my many guests. It's hard for me to believe Casita Juliet and the bigger house Casa Madre sat empty and in foreclosure for two years. Good thing I took so many photos of their rebirth! Speaking of pictures, I love yours and thanks for sending. You may see some of them on my website. Looking forward to seeing you again. Melissa

Year Purchased: 2013
About the owner: Some women collect shoes or husbands. I seem to collect houses! I love buying old adobes, renovating them, furnishing and decorating then turn them into hugely popular vacation rentals (Check out all my rental homes on my website www.redcatmelissiana.com All VRBO listings in Taos) Casita Juliet is my fifth home and has a wonderful story. This casita is part of a downtown compound and like the big house on the property (VRBO #482097) was in foreclosure for two years. I saw the potential of this property and am lucky enough to have a mother who at age 96 wanted to do something for me while she was still here to be part of it. I bought the two houses on this property in February 2013 and got to work. Casa Madre was finished in June and has proven to be a very popular rental. Casita Juliet while on the same property has a wonderful sense of privacy. It is separated from Casa Madre by two over the top garden areas, a latilla fence and has it's own private parking area. It is named for my dear friend Juliet who once lived there and is my garden helper and housekeeper. I love all five of my properties, but Casita Juliet is very special to me.
Why the Owner Chose Taos:
As I said earlier I do love buying old adobes, bringing them back to life and making improvements along the way. I fell in love with this property long before I bought it. I was friends with the owner and a fellow yard sale fanatic. When it came up for sale in a foreclosure I told my mom about it and as they say, the rest is history.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Casita Juliet is a 1000 sq. ft. complete little house for one person, a couple (or three since the living room couch is big and I have bedding for it) The remodel was fairly gruesome since it entailed removing the roof and raising the ceilings. The original ceilings were only a little over 6' and I'm 5'11' myself. Now the rooms are open and inviting, cozy, but not crowded, decorated with my antiques, art and sense of whimsy throughout. I saved what was charming and unique and repaired or replaced what was just not right or did not appeal to me. The kitchen is small, but well equipped. There is a separate eating area, and a utility room with a washer/dryer. There are two delightful, private outdoor areas under portals for dining or just relaxing. AND this property is just, a five minute walk to the downtown Plaza through a nice, historic neighborhood. I am a plant lover and in summer Casita Juliet is a garden wonderland with in ground plants and flowering pots everywhere. Even in winter you can enjoy all my indoor cactus and succulents in unique pots. No two alike and it's a container if it holds soil! Cowboy boot, oil can, saucepan, bucket... Another advantage to Casita Juliet is that combined with the main house Casa Madre and the Bunk House (so much fun!) this property can be a family compound and sleep 12. It is also fenced and pet friendly!
