Our villa is only 20 minutes drive from the Liberia International airport. It provides an experience of 'pura vida', 'pure life' as they say locally. This is a full cultural experience different from a North American resort despite all the amenities. We are located in Playa Hermosa on the Papagayo Gulf Peninsula. The villa has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full chef's kitchen, a/c, internet, TV, DVD, & is fully equipped for 6 to 8 people including a fully separate guest suite with 2 queen beds, own bathroom, TV and coffee-maker. The main two story glass-fronted unit has two bedrooms upstairs close to the main bathroom, one with a queen bed and one with two twins. The villa is in a gated community which is shared with an all inclusive resort. We have security service 24/7, an on site shuttle service available to guests from 6 am to 11 pm, and direct access to the beach. Our guests have free access to most of the the Resort amenities such as pools (one with a sloped edge entry for the little kids), health club, jacuzzi area and wet bar, organized daily activities, tennis court, gym, spa, and 2 tour agencies. There is a mini market and 3 excellent restaurants on site. You can walk down to the beach for a swim, fishing and snorkeling excursions, local resturants with live music or to enjoy resort beach activities. We recommend you to visit the towel kiosk at the Heliconias swimming pool, in order to find out about daily activities.
Just 20 minutes to Liberia International Airport! That is why we chose to purchase in this area because it's a short 20 minute drive over new roads once you arrive and there are direct flights from Canada and the US. We bought (after renting here many years) because this northwest part of the country has a drier heat than the rest of the country so no humidity and with comfortable ocean breezes. Once you arrive at our gated resort and register with reception,, there are complimentary staffed open air vehicles that shuttle resort guests around the property, to the beach, restaurants, to the 2 large pools, (one of which has a swim up bar), the disco and sports facilities including new tennis and basketball courts. All inclusive food and beverage packages are available at the resort if you don't want to cook. Though with beach-caught fish and local fruits, preparing meals is enjoyable and healthy.
Our particular villa is beside the dry forest and visited daily by extraordinary birds and a local family of howler monkeys. It is also an ideal base from which to visit five National Parks within a couple of hours drive, including Lake Arenal (2 hours away), which its live volcano, hot springs and world class spas. Wind surfing at Lake Arenal is also world famous. Rainforested Monteverde is three hours away even on the rougher roads .. and there are zip-lining, hiking, sailing trips to local beaches, all on site. For sure, take a boat tour in the local Palo Verde Reserve. Here you will see many exotic birds, crocodiles, howler and white-faced monkeys. Check if there are local fiestas on for dancing horses, non-killing bull 'fighting' and great marimba music. Costa Ricans love to dance, hang out with their families and celebrate their surroundings. Visit Guatil and see where the local pottery is made using the traditional methods. Also nearby are deep sea fishing, first class scuba diving, sailing, and ATV four wheeling . If you have a car you can easily do tours on your own but if you prefer you can arrange these excursions onsite at the hotel through Swiss Travel or CAT tours. The Beach: Most of the beaches in Costa Rica are darker sand beaches because they are volcanic. Playa Hermosa literally means 'beautiful beach'. It is spectacular in the mornings for bird life and walking. After breakfast, it is a great family beach, with gentle waves with no rip tides. The waves can be great for boogy boarding but if you want to surf you need to drive about an hour south to Playa Grande where the turtles nest or north to Witches Rock. Snorkeling can be done right from the shore or you can hire a boat to take you out for a few hours. The local Playa Hermosa Association keeps the beach clean. Most of all, the Costa Rican people are so dignified and friendly that you will want to return as we have for over 20 years.

About the owner: World travelers, Ed and I found Playa Hermosa was one of the most peaceful and beautiful places we had ever been. Originally from Ireland, the dry warm weather and wildlife was a joy for me and Ed loved the people, the music and the pura vida woven through each day. We visit from Canada as often as we can. We also enjoy sharing this paradise with friends, academic colleagues and visitors like yourselves.
Why the Owner Chose Playa Hermosa: Visiting Guanacaste for 20 years, we chose this villa for its spectacular location, overlooking the beach, ocean and volcanic hills. Having all resort amenities in addition to local wildlife, fiestas and mingling daily with good people, made it ideal. We are committed to ecological living, adding fans to the villa so that, with its height and ocean breezes, we rarely use air conditioning. And then there is water. Villas Sol has access to fresh drinkable water unlike many of the other newer resorts. Important in a desert!
The Unique Benefits at this Villa: The photos give just a hint of the spectacular view. It is when you take your superb Costa Rican coffee with the parakeets on the terrace in the morning or dine on the roof deck at sunset with friends, that you feel it. Pura Vida! Pure life. It helps you find again what really matters.
