Location: Hayesville, Lake Chatuge, Smoky Mountains, North Carolina, USA (5 Miles from Murphy, NC, 10 Miles to Brasstown Valley Resort)
Accommodations: Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
Keywords: Cabin
Come and relax at our cabin right on the Hiawassee River in the Smoky Mountains. Our cabin is located on a very large secluded lot that overlooks the Hiawassee River. The views of the river and mountains are spectacular! Walk down the steps through the gently sloped back yard to the edge of the Hiawassee where you can enjoy the hammock, fish for trout, bass, and bream (THIS IS A FISHERMAN'S DREAM!), swimming, kayaking, rafting, or simply relax!
Our riverfront cabin is located halfway between Murphy and Hayesville, North Carolina (JUST 2 HOURS NORTH OF ATLANTA!) in the Smoky Mountains. Other nearby attractions include Brasstown Valley Resort and Golf (only 10 miles away), Fires Creek (wilderness area), Shooting Creek, Elf, and Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee is only 10 minutes away.
The cabin is a well decorated cedar cabin (with brand new HARD WOOD FLOORS throughout) which offers a master bedroom that has a queen bed set, Direct TV, and french doors that open to the screened in porch overlooking the river.
The guest room also offers a queen bedroom set. An open kitchen with a center island bar, breakfast/dining area, a family room with french doors that open to a screened-in deck, and a stone gas fireplace are just some of the amenities that make this a very charming place to stay. The open decks on both sides of the screened in porch lets you enjoy the rushing river view and sounds of the outdoors.
For those of you that like to entertain, you can enjoy our newly renovated entertainment room located at the back of the house. It has new hard wood floors, half bathroom, direct TV, new pool table, dart board, and French doors that open up to the river! Because of the above and our paved road access, our mountain hideaway is considered to be one of the best cabin rentals in the area.

My husband and I were married in Murphy NC and chose this adorable cabin for our stay. The river access and view is one of the best I've seen in that area. We had several family members and friends rent cabins for our wedding weekend and none compared to our location! The access to the river itself is flat and level with rocks halfway across that are perfect hide-away's for trout. The riverside hammock was very relaxing and you can easily sleep to the rustling of the water. The cabin itself was tastefully decorated and very clean. Beds and furniture were nice and comfy and the kitchen was fully stocked with anything that you might need. While there are other homes in the area, there is a lot of privacy too! We highly recommend for a stay in beautiful Clay Co! We have family in the area and look forward to many more visits! Sarah and Buddy
Owner response:Thanks Sarah and Buddy for your review. We are glad you enjoyed it as much as we do! We look forward to having you back. Keep in touch! Strickland

This cabin was perfect for a family of four. There was something for everyone. It was well equipped with everything you needed. We especially enjoyed the chimnea each night on the patio that opened up to the pool room. It was perfect! Of course being on the river was beautiful, and I loved sitting on the screened in porch listening to the sounds. It was only a short drive to many hiking destinations. I would definitely recommend this cabin for a quiet family getaway. Thanks Strickland!

We had a great time here and are already talking about planning a trip back next year. It was a place that you could go, relax and not worry about a thing. We all agreed that we did not have to leave to have fun. Everything was provided for us right at the cabin and we enjoyed ourselves. We finally got the nerve up Saturday morning to get into the COLD water to tube a little. Other than the parts of us that were in the water going numb, we had a great time. Our son and his wife used the kayak that was on the lot available to us. They then tied her float onto the kayak and he dragged her around for a while. They kayaked over to the rocks and explored there for a while. My husband and I enjoyed watching them while relaxing on the bank. I tried to teach our Labrador Retriever to swim, but he was not having it. He wanted to stay in the "kiddy area" as we called it. He only knows his kiddy pool at home which has a bottom to it. I did get him to swim to me once, which wasn't far. He did get brave and go off the bank twice, which was over his head and we had to pull him out. He did try to clean the river of all the sticks along the bank while we were there. Our son was the only one that tried out the swinging robe. The rest of us were afraid of falling into the COLD water. The four of us played pool after dinner every night. We had so much fun joking around, laughing and enjoying each others company. We also fished every day. The women were the only ones who caught fish. We caught several small fish and we both caught 2 rainbow trout a piece. I caught one using steak from the night before and we caught the others using worms we purchased at the BP in Hayesville. I also used turkey meat to caught some of the smaller fish. Thank you for giving us such a wonderful place to go to, leave the stress behind and enjoy ourselves without leaving the cabin. Laughter is the best medicine.

We are so happy that we could stay here for a few nights. It went by so fast and we left wishing for more time. The river is one of the prettiest I've seen and we loved the soothing sounds at night. The cabin was very clean and well appointed. All our needs had been anticipated and provided for. The beds were comfortable and we would have had great nights except for a small problem with the bed frame in the guest brm. I'm sure that can be fixed. Strickland was very responsive to all our needs and we look forward to a return visit.
Owner response:Thanks Deb for your review. I'm so happy you all enjoyed your time there and we can't wait to have you back. I wanted to let you know that the bed frame is fixed so thank you for pointing that out to us. We value all suggestions from everyone who visits our cabin on the river. We continue to make improvements so that it remains the top rental cabin in the area. Strickland

This is a place we could go over and over again. The trails are great to hike; the river is so peaceful and wonderful to listen to at night. My husband caught a 23 inch rainbow trout right in the back yard! Who could ask for a more relaxing location and the house is great as are the owners. I look forward to going back up in the future

We stayed here March 10 to 17. Our only regert is that we could not stay longer. We like the house so much, especially our 10 years old son. We fished, hiked, played pool and watched TV. We caught some fish right in front of the house. Lisa and Strickland were very helpful. Thanks for sharing your house.

I can't say enough good things about our week at the Mountain Side Cabin on the Hiawassee! The house, the river, the town, the owners....were all wonderful! My son & his friend (13 yr olds) had a great time rafting, fishing, hiking and shooting pool. My dog, a golden retriever, thought she'd died and gone to doggy heaven - she stayed in the river. As for me, sitting on the screened in porch early in the morning overlooking the river, before anyone else was up was divine! If you want a stress-free, relaxing vacation - this is the place! When you are in town, visit the Cafe on the Corner and the Copper Door Restaurant and tell them Sharon sent you.

This was a wonderful rental experience. The riverfront location is amazing and the cabin is even more charming and cozy than it looks in the pictures. It is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The kitchen is fully stocked and roomy with a large island. There is a large screened back deck with rocking chairs and a comfy sofa – I enjoyed my coffee here in the mornings, watching steam rise off the river. The unscreened deck with a chiminea was perfect for hanging out on while playing pool or grilling dinner. Plenty of firewood was generously provided. We were lucky to have cold, clear weather, so we used the chiminea, gas fireplace, and fire pit down by the river. So many stars were visible here at night. There is a wide trail next to the cabin that follows the river for several miles, so you can go hiking right from your back door. We always had this trail to ourselves, which allowed for great off-leash walks for our dog. If you bring a dog, I guarantee he or she will love it here. While the cabin seemed secluded, it’s in a great location – it’s only 5 miles from a large grocery store and restaurants, and about halfway between Hayesville and Murphy so you can explore either town. It was very easy to run errands when necessary and all the roads are paved. The cabin owners were friendly and helpful in every way – they definitely work hard to make sure their guests are comfortable and happy. We really appreciated their attention to detail and hospitality. It is obvious that they love this cabin and want to make it the best vacation rental possible. We hope to return again, as this was one of our most relaxing and enjoyable vacations ever.

We had a WONDERFUL time at this cozy cabin! Being right on the river made our vacation such a great experience! We were able to going hiking along the river and caught some really beautiful trout right in front of the cabin. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone who enjoys staying in a beautiful, comfortable cabin that has the most beautiful views around, and to anyone who loves to fish. It truly is a fisherman's dream!
