Come join us in beautiful Western North Carolina, an area known for its rich, mountain landscape and heritage. Soak in a land of tall, lush, green mountains, spectacular valleys and lakes with colorful Indian names such as Hiawassee, Nantahala, Fontana, Santeetlah and Chatuge.
There are an abundance of activities for the young and the young at heart. You can book a whitewater rafting trip on the Nantahala River and Ocoee River, home of the 1996 Summer Olympic whitewater competition, or hike the Nantahala National Forest. And, if you’re not brave enough to raft, stop by the rivers and snap photos from the rocks. Nearby Hiwassee Lake has marinas for boat launching, boat rentals and fishing supplies for those trout, and other fish. Once your family or guests taste the fish grilled on your cabin grill, you most likely will have a crowd accompanying you on your next fishing expedition! Nearby John C. Campbell Folk School offers year-round classes in old world arts and an opportunity to meet renown artists in the craft community of Brasstown. Or, try gem mining, horseback riding or antiquing, and you can shop to your heart’s content at area shops and the Farmer’s Market.

I am a product of the Dade and Polk County Public School Systems. Dave works as a pump mechanic at a large manufacturing firm. I am a school teacher who works with gifted children. We live in Lakeland, Florida. My family and I have always vacationed in the North Carolina mountains. We love the cool summers and the mountain views. We have two children, married, college grads, with one who graduated from the University of Florida and the other from the University of Central Florida. Our daughter is a nurse practitioner, and her husband is a Marine stationed in Beaufort, South Carolina. Our son is an aerospace engineer, and his wife is a kindergarten teacher.
Why the Owner Chose Murphy: Dave and I had been looking for a cabin in the mountains for almost a year. We wanted a mountain view, completely furnished, paved roads, and in a mountain cabin community not to far from town. This cabin fit perfectly into our plans. The cool mountain breeze, the great view, and the wildlife make the cabin a great place to visit. It is a great getaway for a vacation!
