We stay at Tavneena house from 12th August until 28th August. The house is very comfortable, bright and spacious, well equipped and there was plenty of turf to do a fire every night when we got "home" after our excursions. Marion couldn´t have been more welcoming to us, we arrived late and the house was very warm which was very gratefull after a full day of travelling, she also left some milk, butter, wine, beers in the fridge for us. She was also very helpfull by sending us tourist information before we arrived to Ireland helping us to arrange our visit before we got there. I would recommend a stay at Tavneena house for losts of reasons, but specially because it´s a very good base for exploring the west couast of Ireland and Knock airport is only 5 minutes from the house. Thank you again for a fantactic stay in Ireland.Owner response: Dear Sara Thank you for your generous review. So glad you were the first family from Spain to stay at Tavneena House. I am hoping that I will have had visitors from all over Europe and indeed the world in a few years time! Hope to meet you again. Kind regards Marion

We couldn't have been more pleased with Tavneena house on a recent stay in Ireland. We have often been to Ireland visiting friends and family, staying in B&B's and hotels. The stay at Tavneena superseded all of our previous visits. Marion couldn't have been more welcoming to us. We felt like we were coming home. The house was lovely and clean, without being too fussy, so the kids could enjoy the stay without being afraid of touching anything. There was plenty of turf for the open fires which we lit every day, even though it was summer. The house is fully equipped with everything you need, so all you need do is get off the plane with your suitcase of clothes. The kids loved the house with it's massive bedrooms, upstairs and downstairs and big front garden. The washer/dryer was invaluable on those rainy summer days. We stayed for 9 days and friends and family came from all over Ireland to see us. Marions rates were very reasonable, and she even provided us with some milk for tea and a bottle of wine when we arrived. We enjoyed walks through the tiny village and through fields of our family's farms and all the locals were delightful. I would recommend a stay at Tavneena House. It is so relaxing and peaceful. We certainly intend to stay again on our next visit to Ireland. JB & VB from Australia (Thanks again, Marion)Owner response: So pleased with your excellent review, I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Tavneena House, particularly as you have had previous experience of Irish B&Bs and hotels. Hope to see you all for future visits! Best Wishes Marion

TAVNEENA REVISITED APRIL 2012 Tavneena is not 'Brideshead' of the famous book, but for me, returning to it after a very long absence was an unique experience. It was my home until I was 18 years of age, and my entire universe for most of that time! I know I am prejudiced, but for anyone who wants to get away to a quiet holiday in the country, while still within reach of the main attractions of the West, it is ideal. The house is very comfortable, bright, and spacious; well equipped with all the necessary appliances throughout. If you like an open fire, there is plenty of turf, and there is good reception for TV. The front garden is ideal for barbecues or just relaxing in the sun. The country air is filled with the smell of honeysuckle, new-mown hay, and turf fires. The only sounds to disturb you are those of the cuckoo, the curlew, a cock crowing, or a dog barking in the distance. The proprietress, Marion, lives at a short distance, and is very thoughtful and accommodating - milk in the fridge when you arrive - turf fires set, and the house well heated - just to mention two things!! She is familiar with the area, and can advise on places to visit. She will ensure that your stay will be as enjoyable as possible. I love to think that my old home can give joy to visitors - and I hope that many will make it their base for visiting the west of Ireland. You will not be disappointed. John K - Family of 7 from Leicester, England - 4 stars My family and I stayed at Tavneena House for a week at the end of May 2012. It was a fantastic week and Marion could not have been more welcoming. During our stay we found the House (ex school masters residence) to be very comfortable and homely. The house is very roomy and well furnished and to keep things cosy we liked to use the turf/peat open fires in the evenings.. There is plenty of hot water and the four bedrooms were all very comfortable with clean bedding and towels. As we were based here for a local wedding we found the location an excellent mid point between the Airport and Charlestown especially as members of the family flew in and out different times. It is only a 5 minute drive from Charlestown, where there are plenty of shops, some fantastic pubs and plenty of places to eat. It is also a good base for exploring the west coast and Westport is very pretty and whilst we did not get to Achill island this time, I understand this is a must if the weather is nice. Marion the owner is very helpful and couldn’t do enough for us to ensure our stay was as memorable as we had hoped. The week flew by and we were very sorry to be heading home. We hope to be going back for another visit someday and I wish Marion and her husband Ricahrd all the best with their venture. Thanks again for a fab stay. I hope that this review has been helpfulOwner response: I am so glad you found you had everything you needed at Tavneena House and that the nearness of Ireland West International Airport (Knock) in particular was convenient for you and all the guests. I very much hope to meet you and your family at Tavneena again. Best Wishes Marion

Good accomodation and easy access to Knock airport. There are many places to visit on the west side of Ireland including the lovely Achill Island and they are easily reached from this location. Shops in nearby Charlestown and Knock are fine with a Tesco store not far in Swinford Town. We had a very enjoyable stay here and Marion was always available if needed. Thank YouOwner response: Many thanks for taking the time to write a review I do appreciate it! I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Tavneena House. I agree that the Swinford Tesco supermarket may be a most convenient one-stop shopping destination for visitors. Hope to meet again you are welcome anytime. Best Wishes Marion

I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tavneena House recently. Very impressed by the comfort of the beds - always important in a holiday house - but more particularly by Marion's (owner) attention to detail and concern for her guests to really relax and enjoy their stay. Nothing was too much trouble: we arrived late at night to find the heating on and a fridge impeccably stocked with all essentials - and not a few luxuries! We soon felt very cosy and settled especially once the art of the peat fire had been mastered. All in all, lovely, spacious, well equipped and easy to live in. Tavneena is rural but we felt very much part of the real Ireland. We got to all the places we wanted to go (again guided by Marion) including Achill Island - the sea cliffs and views in all directions are incredible - and climbed Croagh Patrick, St Patrick's legendary mountain (lots of scree, wear good boots); and found many good walks in the vicinity. I was most impressed and interested to find that we were so close to the magnificent salmon fishing of the River Moy - visit Clarke's wonderful fish shop in Ballina for superb smoked salmon. Also thoroughly recommend a visit to the Foxford Woollen Mill not just for their beautiful rugs and blankets etc but also for their tea room - fabulous baking, still dreaming of the scones. Another excellent tea room is The Hungry Monk at Cong, just by the abbey ruins. More good walks along the lakeside at Cong. Thank you Marion!Owner response: Clare Thank you for your very detailed review. I do try to make every effort to ensure that everyone staying at Tavneena House is as comfortable as possible - summer and winter! I know that you certainly made the most of Mayo in your week's visit and I hope that you will stay at Tavneena House again - you are welcome anytime. As you mentioned next time you might consider flying from the UK into Ireland West International Airport (Knock) as the house is only a short drive from the airport! Kind Regards Marion

My family and I stayed at Tavneena House for the weekend at the end of February 2012. During our stay we found the whole cottage to be very comfortable, quiet and cosy. The cottage is also very well equipped with all the necessary appliances throughout the house. If you like a nice open fire, there is plenty of turf/peat. We loved to cosy down in the living room on an evening with a nice glass of wine. There is plenty of hot water whenever you need it and the central heating is more than adequate. The four bedrooms are very comfortable with nice clean bedding and fresh towels. The village of Tavneena is very quiet and peaceful. Everyone in the village is extremely friendly as are all of the Irish. Mike the next door neighbor is a farmer with livestock and is very friendly and helpful should you need anything or just want a chat. We found the cottage very handy as it is just a 5 minute drive from Knock International Airport, where you can hire a car or catch a taxi quite easily. It is also only a few miles from Charlestown, where there are plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. Marion the owner is very helpful and couldn’t do enough for us to ensure our stay was as amazing as we imagined it would be. We will defiantly be going back for another visit in the near future. In August 2011 we stayed in the Tavneena House near Charlestown for 16 days. The cottage is situated in a picturesque, quiet and peaceful location, surrounded by the lovely Irish countryside. The house is spacious and comfortable with 4 bedrooms, a living room, 2 bathrooms, a charming kitchen with a nice fire place, and there is also a garden. In close vicinity there are good grocery stores and a supermarket where you can buy all the products you need. It’s everything you could wish for, for a relaxing holiday and much, much more. See details on the website. Tavneena House is also a good starting point to discover the beauty of Ireland – County Mayo to be precise. It does entail a lot of driving around in the car, but the rewards are well worth it – amazing landscapes and lots of spontaneous meetings with the very friendly Irish people and learning about their way of life. After every discovery trip, we returned happily tired to our cosy house to put our feet up and relax. Marion, the owner, and the neighbour next door to Tavneena House are very friendly and kind if you should need anything or just want to chat. They provide an excellent service and do everything possible to ensure that you enjoy an unforgettable holiday in Ireland.Owner response: Thank you for your kind review. It seems what I am trying to achieve at Tavneena House has worked and I am delighted you had an enjoyable holiday. It was a pleasure to meet such a nice family from Switzerland! Marion
