Property description

The soaring ceilings and walls of windows of this open plan design bring nature in -- and get you out and enjoying the bounty of the Sierras in all seasons ~ Our cabin has 2 large Queen bedrooms and a loft with a few single beds and a futon overlooking the eating area and 2 full bathrooms. It is ideally suited for 2 families with up to 4 kids or 3 teens. We have a separate, heated laundry and ski/snowboard/bike room for all of your gear. The granite -countered kitchen and breakfast bar are open to the dining area - keeping everyone cooking, eating, laughing and enjoying their time together. In an attempt to throwback to the good ol' days there is no TV or wireless (!) -- just a hardwired computer connection. Come UNPLUG and RE-ENERGIZE amidst the splendor of the Sierras - great hikes, skiing, boarding, biking are all literally at your back door.

We are a ski family that has fallen in love with Tahoe ALL year long.

During snow season -- catch the shuttle up to Alpine Meadows or over to Squaw for first tracks -- find your fav pow stash and revisit it all day, conquer the Chief, Silverado or KT2, take the kiddies dog-sledding, back country it from Squaw to Alpine, spend an amazing afternoon at the Alpine Meadows back bowls (Sherwood Bowl on a bluebird day cannot be beat!) or hopping through the trees off Scott's lift, the best lift-accessible back-country skiing around..... enjoy the best Lake views EVER (and a bit of gnarly vertical) from the top of Quail Ridge at Homewood (shhh- Homewood is a local's secret..... they could use some faster lifts there but they keep the fluff looong after its been scraped off at Squaw - Hobbittland is a WONDERLAND after a nice snow !). Head to North Star to be spoiled beyond with the posh shops and restaurants -- outdoor heated pool, ice rink with bandstand and fire pits, great terrain park and half pipe, easy to navigate trails for beginners to intermediate skiiers/boarders. Pop over to Squaw for the speed and challenge, (but also a great beginners program at Gold Coast), super-fun Apres ski. Alpine gives you tons of great ski options from complete novice with a great beginners and disabled skiers program to terrain to challenge the most advanced skier -- good option when the glam (and crowds) of Squaw lose their allure and you are craving a ski-zen-nirvana day with great lake views ( did I mention the Scott's trails??) ....also Alpine prob has the best true intermediate blue runs, PLUS it's in your back yard !

Alternatively, sitting cozy in our house watching the snow fall is also a super way to spend the day. ----------

Spring, summer and fall - Mountain bike and hiking abound in Tahoe. Trail guides are in the house - we are happy to help you with whatever you are interested in. Hiking is spectacular - don't miss the hike to Eagle Lake (trailhead just across from Emerald bay). Stand-up paddle (SUP), kayaking & sailing rentals are all available on many lakeside beaches -- restorative and just enough exercise to warrant a relaxing sunset dinner. (The Sand Bar in Tahoe City or Sunnyside in Homewood are two of our summertime favorites). Borrow our raft and float the Truckee River, enjoy a post-float burger on the deck at River Run or back up where you started at 'The Bridgetender'. Horse back riding is 2 minutes away just down Alpine Meadows Road. Truckee, Tahoe City and all the ski resorts have tons of great (and often free) music, art and sporting events all year long. The Coffee Shop in Truckee is a great meeting place for active outdoor enthusiasts - great coffee, community events from free concerts to bike/swim/hike events to homemade fairs to yoga retreats posted over an entire wall.

Basically, you just cannot go wrong ANY season up here.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2013

About the owner: Joe and I grew up on the East Coast, scraping down the mountainsides on skinny skis, wiping the icicles off the tips of each others noses....then we moved to California in 2008. We brought our 3 kids along and quickly fell in love with our new home state. We love to ski (obviously), bike, hike, sail, and have a few squash and soccer players in our crew ( not me).

Why the Owner Chose Alpine Meadows:
We fell in love with the huge, sun-filled windows, contemporary feel and location, location, location! Alpine Meadows shuttle takes you door to door.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
rent it and you'll see....
