The home is a historic house from the early 1800s, but renovated, updated, and remodeled in 2002. It has over 4000 square feet of living area and is located on Washington Square across from the landmark, Abbot Hall. It has off street parking for two cars - a major plus in a summer tourist area. There is a flagstone patio and a large private garden.
The first floor of the house consist of a comfortable living room with fireplace, a formal dining room, a den, a bath and a large modern kitchen with an eating area next to the kitchen fireplace. The large bedrooms are upstairs on the second and third floors, with a central bath on each floor. These rooms are bright and airy with partial views of the harbor. The new furniture fits the colonial style of the home. Three flat screen TVs - one on each floor and a DVD player are provided. The house is very bright (35 windows and 3 sky lights). For winter heating there are two furnaces with separate controls for lower and upper floors. In summer these provide seperate central air-conditioning for upper and lower floors.
The town abounds in multiple historic activities, parades, art festivals, antique shopping, and yacht races some right outside your door. The beaches, shops, and restaurants of Marblehead harbor are a couple of minutes walk. Moreover the many activities in Boston are available by car or public transportation.

Beautiful home in historic Marblehead
Beautiful home in historic Marblehead

We would definitely recommend staying in this beautiful location. The house was very comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean. It is located centrally in Marblehead in the historic quarter. The harbour and town centre (with a good choice of shops, cafes and restaurants) are less than 10 minutes walk in either direction. We caught the bus to sightsee in Boston and used the train from Salem. Marblehead is ideally placed to sightsee further round the coast and has a good choice of out of town shopping malls (our teenage children particularly liked Nordstrum Rack!). The off-street parking was a real bonus (and rare here!) and essential for us, as our visit was over the Easter break and the off-street snow restrictions were still enforced. We felt privileged to stay in such a beautiful home and would definitely stay here again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed in the house for three months October November December 2011. This was a retirement trip for ourselves and allowed us to enjoy Fall Thanksgiving and Christmas in the US and we couldn't have picked a better spot. The house was large enough for our family to join us for the holidays and the location was beautiful. Marblehead is a delightful town with so much to offer and very friendly locals. This was an excellent area for access to Boston and the delights of New England, giving us the benefits of a cosy home to return to in between trips.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We spent a week here and truly enjoyed ourselves. This house is spacious and well maintained and the off street parking is a real bonus. Directly across the street from the house is Abbot Hall where you can go in and see the painting Spirit of 76. This was an amazing discovery for us! The town of Marblehead is fun to explore and offers tourists a variety of things to do. We also took public transportation into Boston twice and found that very convenient and easy. You will definitely enjoy your stay here!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2002
About the owner: This historic home (The Tucker House 1717) is family owned. Leah lived in Marblehead when she was a Ph.D. student at Harvard. While doing thesis research in Africa, she met Gil, a well known British filmmaker. They have two children, Alexander and Rachel. The other owners are Leah's parents who are retired and live in Florida. Our family loves to be here whenever we can. We hope that all our guests will love this home and Marblehead as much as we do.
Why the Owner Chose Marblehead:
Leah lived in Marblehead while a student at Harvard. Although their jobs take them elsewhere; Leah, an anthropologist and Gil, a filmmaker, are currently teaching in NJ. Because they love this town and its location, they plan to make Marblehead and the Tucker House their home someday.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Marblehead is unique! It is on the coast and a famous yachting town. Its quaint narrow streets and historic 17th and 18th century buildings mirror Marblehead as it has existed since its founding in 1629. Marblehead is blessed with many parks, playgound and beaches for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages. And Boston with all its cultural activity is only 18 miles away. As a family we enjoy all seasons here: the summer sports, the changing of colors in autumn, and winter sports including nearby skiing, along with the beautiful flowers and the rebirth of Spring.
