Enjoying a splendid elevated position on the central western hillside of Lake Como this beautiful property (ID 411) offers a wonderful retreat for medium sized parties in the peaceful and tranquil setting of Mezzegra.
The ground floor property offers a spacious layout with open plan living room featuring a stylish L-shaped leather sofa with coffee table and a flat screen sat TV with DVD player for guests’ entertainment.
A newly fitted kitchen offers all the desired appliances required for a self catering holiday. From the tiled living room French doors lead out onto a fantastic sunny terrace and garden with panoramic views of the mountains and lake and is an idyllic spot to relax with an olive grove and other Mediterranean plants and shrubs. Guests can unwind on the sun-loungers and enjoy the marvellous vista or enjoy a BBQ and dine Alfresco in the evenings, as the sun sets romantically over the dramatic mountain tops and provides a memorable end to the perfect day on Lake Como.
The sleeping accommodation inside the property is ideal for groups and couples, with 3 luxurious double bedrooms to choose from. The master bedroom features direct access out onto the lake view terrace and garden, and lake views can also be enjoyed from the second bedroom. All rooms are spacious and are comfortably furnished with a lovely and distinctive blend of antique wardrobes with stylish modern beds and warm interior colours, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
There are two modern shower rooms in the property and including a washing machine for guest’s convenience.
Mezzegra:
Mezzegra is situated on the western banks of Lake Como, in the zone of central Lario known as Tremezzina. There is a weekly market in Mezzegra (Friday) and Lenno (Tuesday) where you will be able to buy fresh fish from the lake. In Mezzegra town, you will find supermarkets, the post office, bars, coffeehouses, the baker (which if you wish delivers fresh rolls to the house), can be reached in just a few minutes by foot.
Mezzegra is famous for being the scene of Duce's last hours. In Giulino, XXIV Maggio street, in front of Villa Belmonte gate, a steel cross reminds the place where Benito Mussolini and Claretta Petacci were killed and in the hamlet Bonzanigo there is the house where they spent their last night together.
Pay a visit to the church of Sant'Abbondio, dating back to the end of the 1600’s, with its elegant Baroque facade and its precious canvases (17th and 18th century) and its most beautiful marble Baroque altars. Close to the presbytery and the sacristy are visible traces of the old Roman chapel which preceded it. In one of the two surrounding annexes of the church, plaster works are preserved attributed to Pietro Silva and frescos possibly by Fiamminghino, while in the other, which is also decorated with plaster work and prized frescos, there is a large decorated wooden altar dating from the 17th to 18th centuries.
Lombardy - Lake Como Area:
The Italian Lakes are a little slice of paradise. Elegant ribbons of blue water stretch out ahead, folded into the sun-baked foothills, with a spectacular back drop of the snow-capped Alps.
Lake Como offers hidden treasures just waiting for the visitor to discover them: charming corners forgotten by time, lakeside villages where nothing seems to have changed for centuries.
It is steeped in history with an immense collection of churches, architectural masterpieces and works of art covering the centuries. The lake is situated in a basin surrounded by wooded mountains, and offers an extremely varied landscape, with its' shores featuring a succession of pastures, and woods as well as harsh and impressive rock formations.
All this alongside elegant, lakeside villas with sub-tropical gardens, which provide a haven of peace and tranquillity and chic resorts such as Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio and Como itself.
Warming, in spriing and graced with natural beauty, the lakes are still a place to draw breath and wonder. Lake Como, oriented north-south, ringed by characterful old villages often wedged onto narrow beaches between rugged cliffs and water. Those classic lake images of flower strewn balconies, Baroque gardens and splendid waterside villas can be found here in abundance. Dotted around and between the lakes are some of Italy's finest art cities, such as Milan, Verona & Bergamo.
The most romantic and picturesque villages on the lake are Santa Maria Rezzonico, Varenna (15 min by ferry) & Bellagio (8 min by ferry), Lenno (visit Villa Balbianello, location for 007's Casino Royale as well as Villa Gaeta, right here in Menaggio) & Laglio (where George Clooney owns Villa Oleandra).

I wanted to send you some feedback about our holiday at Olive Groves as per your request below. -Easy to find from directions given -Beautiful setting up in the hills with an amazing view over the lake (especially early in the morning and at dusk) -Great view of fireworks on 15 August -Wonderful outdoor terrace surrounded by olive trees, fig trees (delicious!) and lime trees -Very nice owners (Giorgio and Marion), who helped out with suggestions, directions, etc and gave us wonderful figs and cheese! -Good location in terms of accessibility to other towns (close to Menaggio, as well as Lenno from which we took the ferry to Bellagio) -Clean apartment, comfortable beds and bathrooms in good condition - spacious bedrooms -Kitchen well equipped with cooking utensils -Great BBQ outside -Dinner al fresco every night - nothing can beat that -Very quiet and peaceful setting (great for babies, as they aren't kept up by noise and if they are noisy there won't be any complaints, even with the owners upstairs)Did you find this review helpful? Yes we are back from a wonderful two weeks in Olive Groves. It was a wonderful property which far exceeded our expectations. It was really like home from home but with the sunshine! The house was very easy to find and very handy for shopping. There are two great little supermarkets and a wonderful bakery in Mezzegra which were really within walking distance of the house if one felt energetic! Our hosts, Georgio and Marion were a great couple who were more than happy to offer any advice if required. Please ask Georgio for some walking routes - we did two spectacular walks in the hills which we would never have found without his local knowledge. We also thoroughly enjoyed the figs and plums which they provided us with on several occasions. We had two wonderful meals at La Pergola Hotel and restaurant in Lenno but do remember to reserve a table as it is very popular with locals and tourist Also be sure and have a drink at the Bar Sport in Lenno. They also do very nice small meals. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property for holidays. This year was our second time using Happy Holiday Homes and on both occasions we found everything very satisfactory. Hopefully next year will be the same!
