Stavros Villa, Stavros's villa, has everything the traveller-connoisseur could possibly wish for. This traditional villa, in the true and original sense of the word, is an exceptional attraction.
Set majestically among richly-planted, artistically-designed gardens with an imposing entrance flanked by ancient pine trees, this grand residence evokes an atmosphere from an earlier nobler period in Greece's history. The overwhelming feeling of being transported into a bygone day and age is both magical and mystical. Antique artefacts and everyday household items adorn the entire building, vying for the lucky visitor's attention. Tastefully arranged, they form but one part of the tapestry of this extraordinary place, for there are also numerous gems created by Stavros beckoning the appreciation of cultured visitors. Here we are privileged to catch a glimpse into the soul of Stavros and his ancestors. The period furniture dating from as long ago as the 1920s completes the stage for some wonderful temporary time travel. No need for the Tardis here.
Venturing into the gardens beyond ancient doors painstakingly transformed into a work of modern art by Athina, Stavros' daughter, one feels like a young artist entering the hallowed domain of a venerable elder artist. Stavros has taken up where his ancestors left off; traditional dry-stone walls provide a backdrop for his artistic musings in stone, wood and old found-objects, emissaries from earlier times, places and ways, harbingers of goodwill and pleasant surroundings, standing witness to resourcefulness and tireless creativity.
Despite the vintage of the buildings, you will not be left wanting for any of the mod cons that almost all modern villas boast, ranging from air conditioning to wi-fi and digital services, from outdoor pool to barbecue facilities. During the heat of the day you'll be able to stay pleasantly cool by chilling out around the swimming pool in these beautifully-crafted gardens, with plenty of shaded areas to offer protection from the harsh midday Mediterranean sun. Not only will you find everything a weary traveller-explorer needs at the end of an exciting day, but you will also be delighted with the rustic kitchen, complete with a traditional wood-fired oven. And after you've freshened yourself up and replenished your energy supplies, you will almost certainly gravitate towards the west-facing outside areas to savour the majestic sunset over the Ionian Sea, with the northern part of Paliki, claimed by some to be the true homeland of Odysseus, beckoning from the southwest. From numerous locations around the villa the evening sky becomes the stage for a magnificent cosmic lightshow - a warm pastel glow pervades the dusk, wispy streaks of lavender tones high in the sky are often overlaid by cotton-wool-like clouds of various shapes and sizes. The play of light and dark, nuance and hue, comes to its absolute perfection on full moon nights, when the floral colours of the fading day merge seamlessly with the pale whitewash of the evening-going-on-night and the day seems to go on forever.
It is obvious that Stavros and Athina are a pair of warm-hearted people who genuinely care for their ancestral home and their esteemed visitors with equal amounts of kindness, attention and love. Their villa offers so much more than just holiday accommodation. Here you'll find spiritual upliftment, inspiration and appreciation; a haven, a sanctuary away from the chaos and hubbub of modern urban life. Here you will get back in touch with yourself, and then return home revitalised and full of optimism, for that is the impression that Stavros, Athina and Stavros Villa make on every visitor. And I'm sure they will on you, as well.

Fiskardo and all its nearby villages are located among cypress and olive tree-covered hills whose terrain is studded with amazing rock formations, wild herbs and bushes, which are home to a great range of wildlife, including pine martens, pheasants, quail, mountain hare, hedgehogs, eagles, lizards and snakes. And the sight of sheep and goats clambering over the road-cuttings and hillsides will certainly invite creative photography. A little further down the west coast from Fiskardo the beautiful seaside village of Assos lies nestled at the base of a small peninsula capped by the remains of a Venetian fortress built in 1593 . This quaint village, like Fiskardo, maintains the traditional architecture of the Ionian Islands and offers a pleasant afternoon sojourn with a meal, snack or cool drink at one of the restaurants or cafes fringing the small bay.
The capital of Cephalonia, which is the largest of the Ionian Islands, is the beautiful Argostoli, where the visitor can admire, among other impressive monuments and sights, the historical stone sea-bridge constructed by Charles de Bosse (''Devosetou'') and completed in 1812. Here you can find the ''Korgiallenios'' History and Folklore Museum, the Archaeological Museum and Kefalos Theatre, which hosts concerts, plays, films and other performances year round. The sink holes (''Katavothres'') are openings in the rocky ground at the water's edge where the water enters the Earth, and then flows underground eastwards across the entire island. This unique geological phenomenon was discovered in 1963, when geologists Viktor Maurin and Josef Zötl from the Technical University of Graz released 160 kilos of dye into one of these sinks. Two weeks later traces of colour were found in springs on the other side of the island at Karavomylos, 14km away, as well as in Lake Melissani, which, along with Drogarati Cave, is of particular interest. In the same area, Sami, numerous other sites of religious and historical importance are to be found, some linked by well-marked walking tracks. Further afield Kefalonia prides itself on the unique mountain habitat of Mount Ainos, the highest mountain in the Ionian islands , with its wild horses, black fir trees and panoramic views of the Ionian sea, the surrounding islands and the mainland to the east. There are many splendid beaches, the best-known of which is Myrtos, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean and is included in a catalogue of the best beaches on the planet.
About the owner: Athina, an artist, and her musician father, Stavros, are obviously very talented and creative people. Their passion and love for their ancestral home is clearly visible in all areas of this glorious property. And they are proud to share this rare gem of Ionian history with their esteemed visitors, whom they treat with great respect, kindness and tact. Their care of and attention to their guests is always done with the utmost discretion and consideration for their well-being, comfort and privacy. They are always available to assist whenever the need arises. Like their wonderful, stately villa, they will fill you with joy, inspiration and pleasant experiences of an unforgettable vacation in an exceptionally beautiful island paradise.
Why the Owner Chose Fiskardo: Athina is extremely fortunate to have been blessed with this beautiful and grand family villa, set high in the hills of Touliata in northern Kefalonia, with commanding views across the Ionian Sea and a serene atmosphere. Built in 1925, the house has been lovingly preserved by Stavros and Athina. They take great pride in offering it to visitors from all over the world to appreciate and savour the spirit of their ancestral home. The beamed high ceilings, the traditionally-painted floorboards, the original shutters, the wrought ironwork on the balcony, railings and doors, the architecture, the traditional furnishings, artefacts and decorations all give the visitor an inkling as to why Athina and Stavros are so deeply passionate about their rich heritage. As a constant reminder, the walls are hung with family portraits, which guests find of particular interest, with earlier generations displaying period custumes and mannerisms - offering an insight into the old days in island Greece. Stavros and Athina haven't been content to rest on the laurels of their antecedents, however, expressing themselves through the creations they have further adorned the place with. The lush gardens are as delightful as the historic interior, as Stavros has demonstrated his artistic talent through the use of local materials to create a tapestry of natural and found objects set against the backdrop of remains of earlier structures; a stable, a storeroom, a disused grape press? Much is left to the visitor's imagination, and the spacious terraced gardens, the pool and barbecue areas all provide ample stimulation and private spaces for guests to share in the rare experience of the past juxtaposed over the present, or vice versa - there is something special here for every person who enters Athina's and Stavros' world - not just a house and gardens, but a not-to-be-missed journey into the Greek spirit and soul.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa: Stavros villa is unique in many ways. First, it has been the family residence of the Drakopoulos family for almost 90 years and still contains a host of family heirlooms, artefacts and furniture. As such, it is a wonderful chance for any discerning visitor to get a taste of rural life on an island in Greece decades ago. This is the ONLY destination for travellers of its kind in the entire Fiskardo region.
