Location: Sayulita, Costa Vallarta North, Nayarit, Banderas Bay (Puerto Vallarta Area), Mexico (only 25 miles from the Puerto Vallarta Airport)

Accommodations:  House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-5)

Just 30 minutes from the Puerto Vallarta airport where the jungle and the mountains meet the ocean on a beautiful hillside with views of the ocean and jungle, and only 50 yards from the ocean sits Casa Pajaro, a tropical paradise in wonderful, sunny Sayulita! If you like pristine beaches, warm ocean, ripping surf, fishing, hiking, or just relaxing, then Sayulita with its fantastic restaurants, incredible jungles, scenic mountains, and friendly people is the place for you.

Located on the Villas Rana Verde estate, with over an acre of private land, we are one of the largest pieces of estate property in Sayulita. The best tropical garden in Sayulita is at your doorstep with private, gated grounds that feature over 20 varieties of palms, hibiscus & bouganvilla of all colors, ixoras, jasmine, plumeria, orchid trees, birds of paradise, gardenia, corona, heliconia, gingers, maguey, blue agave, abundant cacti, almond trees, organic fruit for your table, including: bananas, papayas, Mandarin oranges, Persian limes, and so much more. Exotic tropical gardens like ours are seldom seen in private homes. If you love to garden, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live your dream in a tropical paradise.

The beach across the street is one of the most pristine, sandy, private beaches with the cleanest water in Sayulita. It is not unusual to be the only person on the beach for 1/4 mile in each direction. It is a nesting grounds for Leatherback turtles who can be seen in the early morning hours and late evenings during September and October laying their eggs or hiding the nests before their return to the ocean.

Our lovely estate is home to the most beautiful birds that you are likely to witness outside the most complete aviary of exotic, tropical, colorful birds! We have identified over 100 varieties of these magnificent creatures. On the property you can view hummingbirds, orioles, tanagers, caciques, finches, parakeets, parrots, macaws, woodpeckers, chachalacas, trogons, hawks, honeycreepers, warblers, and much more. This is all without leaving the property. There is an even larger abundance if you venture into the nearby jungle.

Fully-furnished home features ocean and jungle views from every room on a gated estate with a private pool that that looks out on the ocean and verdant jungle. On-site concierge assures you that everything works all the time. All rooms are furnished with the finest amenities such as Ralph Lauren towels, 200-thread-count all cotton sheets (only natural fiber products are used throughout), down pillows, televisions with DVD/tape players and a DVD library TV Box sets & movies, hand-woven Guatemalan fabrics for all curtains and pillow covers, our personal art collection from travels throughout Mexico/Guatemala, furnishings that will allow you all the comforts you need while enjoying our incredible villa! Meander through our many cobblestone pathways into a tropical botanical paradise seldom seen on private grounds. Enjoy a chilled glass of wine from the ocean-view pool while the cascading waterfall chills away the heat, with the best of tropical bird and plant life as your private postcard!

We provide everything you need for a luxurious and relaxing stay! Hair dryers in every bathroom, down pillows, organic fruit from the estate for your table, every day maid and pool service, optional cook, beach towels (chairs and umbrellas too), fresh flowers, the best of everything, all in the most private near the village at the sand (50 yards) location in Sayulita! If you are looking for a very private getaway without even leaving the estate, our cook can prepare (optionally, at additional cost) authentic Mexican meals. She brings her masa dough for tortillas, along with her wooden press (most guests enjoy pitching in and making their own tortillas, it is lots of fun with Erica), and she prepares salsa, guacamole, rice, beans, and your choice of chile rellenos, shrimp, fish, chicken, pork or beef. Most guests tell me this is one of the highlights of their trip.

We are located about one-half mile from the village in an area of private villas away from the night noise of the village with its roosters (why do they have to start crowing at 2:30 AM?), cantinas, and Saturday night disco at the soccer field with unprecedented decibel levels! Your quiet night of sleep is assured. We are across from the ocean, 50 yards away, just a two-minute walk. You will appreciate not being on the ocean when the big surf comes and the pounding is so loud and strong that it literally shakes the home you are in, when your clothes and sheets are not damp all the time from the mist from the waves crashing on the beach, and you have to shout to hear each other talk! The short walk to town can be along the pristine, sandy beach or a quiet dirt road.

We have the best property, grounds, amenities in Sayulita! Check out the "comments from previous guests" below to find out how truly great our estate is.

Experience Mexico at its best. Outside Magazine calls Sayulita "the best place to hang a hammock." Check out why in the March/April 2004 issue of AARP magazine article on retiring in Mexico, the authors concluded their search for the perfect spot and bought a home in Sayulita! The New York Times, San Jose Mercury, and the LA Times have all written fantastic articles on Sayulita. You will not experience a more beautiful, untouched paradise anywhere.

Wow! This incredible villa can be combined with Casa Rana Verde (vrbo # 29170)& Casa Mikayla for an unbelievable multi-family or extended family experience with 4 pools, 3 kitchens, 7 bedrooms, 10 baths with beds for 17, all on the same tropical paradise estate in the lap of luxury! Each villa is totally seperate from the other 2, and has its own private pool, gourmet kitchen, living area, gardens, etc. Nothing is shared between the homes except for the same gated entry and cobblestone parking area.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Barry & Connie Dumont moved here from Santa Cruz, CA in 2003. They had been Realtors in Santa Cruz, CA for the previous 20 years. They have four children, one of whom has moved to Sayulita and owns and operates Galeria Gypsy in the village of Sayulita. They have always had a keen interest in Mexico and south, and were frequent visitors during the 70s to Mexico, Guatemala and Columbia. Once the four had grown, they renewed their love affair Mexico and made the move to Mexico full time in 2003. They live next door to the villas. They travel to the interior of Mexico and as buyers for their daughter's store several times a year, and when in Sayulita are surfing and enjoying the fantastic laid back lifestyle.

Why the Owner Chose Sayulita

Why the Owner Chose Sayulita

My wife and I came to Sayulita in 1995. We immediately loved the wonderful ambiance, weather, ocean and great people. We were living in Santa Cruz, CA at the time, which we love for many of the reasons. As the years went by we were spending more time each year in Sayulita. We moved here full time in 2003 and have never regretted a day. We live next door to the villas full time, so we are here to be sure that everything runs at 100% efficiency all the time. We love surfing in warm water, the beaches, weather, jungle, small village atmosphere, the people, etc. There is a reason why everyone is talking about Sayulita, but that reason is actually many reasons. It is just a fantastic place to live or visit! Come and visit us and discover why so many of our guests describe our villas in superlative terms. We make it great for you!

The Unique Benefits of this House

Our estate is a fantastic venue for any size group of up to 15-20 people, depending on whether there are families, couples or singles. All villas have their own private pool. Our full acre plus property is landscaped with the finest garden in Sayulita. Due to the extensive 15 year garden and other landscaping, there is total privacy everywhere. There is maid service/garden/pool every day. There is a fantastic cook that prepares, serves and cleans up after an 8 plate meal for $6.50/person plus the cost of the food. We use only the finest for your bedding, cooking, bathing, etc, so that when you come here, the comforts are much like what you are accustomed to at home. Our driver will pick you up the airport, insuring your comfort and safety to and from the villas. Our ocean views are unsurpassed in Sayulita. It is just a 2 minute walk on cobblestone to the sandy, pristine beach from our gate, and only a 12 minute walk to the village of Sayulita by sandy beach or quiet dirt road. We live next door to insure that your needs are fulfilled. We care about your stay and want to make the best it can be!

    • This hillside, jungle estate is beautifully designed & appointed. We loved the palapas-style rooms (with a/c!) and the feeling of being surrounded by nature in an indoor/outdoor living environment. Casa Pajaro is immaculate. Especially for the kids, it was lovely to have our own little private pool. The town of Sayulitas offers the perfect balance of Mexican pueblo and tourist amenities -- a truly cross-cultural experience (which we really wanted for the kids as opposed to a Club-Med thing) but also everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. Swimming in the warm ocean with a calm surf (this time of year) was such a treat for all of us. We loved our hosts, Connie & Barry, the groundskeeper Chuy, our driver Angel who collected us from the airport and took us to the superstore to stock up on groceries, and his wife, Lucia, our housekeeper/chef who taught us homemade Mexican cooking right there in our own little kitchen. It was a dream. Five stars! This would be a great spot for a family reunion.

    • My husband and I and two of our friends stayed in Casa Mikayla for a week. It was FANTASTIC!! The house was so peacful and relaxing. We loved the pool, the decorations, the location. The beach on the North end (near the house) is so much nicer than in town. We had an easy walk to La Terazola, our favorite restaurant and beach hang out. We'd DEFINITELY stay at Casa Mikayla again. thanks for a wonderful time!

    • This was our second time staying at this property. The first time, we stayed at Rana Verde and Casa Pajaro to accommodate our large group. This time, we went with our family of four and stayed in Casa Pajaro. It is by far one of the nicest places to stay in Sayulita for many reasons.... -quiet location but still only a short walk to town -clean, well-maintained property -beautiful landscaping and views -3 minute walk to the beach -safe for young kids -Barry and Connie are perfect hosts -the staff (Lucia, Chey, Dulce) takes care of you -just a cool place to hang out We've stayed at two other rentals in the area and they don't compare to Rana Verde/Casa Pajaro. We are already planning our trip to Casa Pajaro for next year.

    • Our family, all (12) of us, spent a week at Villa Rana Verde for my son's wedding and pre and post celebrations. The casa Rana Verde and casitas Mikayla and Pajaro were perfect for our group who ranged in age from 25 to 85. Thanks Barry to you and your staff.

    • Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Mikayla. It is well built, tastefully decorated, and in a great location for the ultimate 'Sayulita Experience'! We particularly liked the view from the upper deck for scoping the surf and walking the beach down to the main break. Would definitely like to return.

    • We spent three glorious weeks in Sayulita sharing Casa Mikaela with our daughter's future in-laws. One might say we celebrated our respective children's honeymoon for them. In May we all return for the wedding. What a paradise!! Endless days of perfect weather in which to stroll the beach, eat remarkable food, swim and fish... and that's not even the daily margaritas by the pool. Barry and Connie are the most welcoming of hosts and have helped create a storybook place for our daughter's wedding. We loved their cook Lucia who agreed to cook for the whole wedding and the entire property is spectacular lovingly maintained. We're counting sleeps till we return.

Good info from the owner about enjoying Sayulita. Staff can do wonderful meals on request-a highlight for us

    • We really enjoyed Casa Pajaro and the quiet life at the north end of Sayulita. So beautiful to sip coffee in the morning and listen to the birds in the jungle. Lucia did cook a wonderful meal and our catch of the day, Dorado. There was everything Barry and Connie said there would be on the property, Thank you. The Pratt's

    • My family and I stayed at Casa Pajaro in the middle of July. It is an amazing place! First, the location is ideal. Fifteen minute walk along the beach into town made us feel like we far enough away from town without being isolated. The beach itself is less than a 5 minute walk. This part of the beach is lovely land very sparsely populated. The plants, flowers, birds and butterflies enveloping Pajaro and the other rentals are incredible. Our two year old daughter loved exploring everywhere. We enjoy cooking and the kitchen here is gorgeous. Every appliance you could want and all of them are high quality. The pool, beds, showers-- everything is nicely designed and the overall feel is one of a luxurious vacation spot. Barry and Connie are wonderful hosts-- around enough to make you feel connected but not so much that your privacy feels invaded. We're already planning our return trip!

    • Hola Amigo, My family of four and I stayed at Casa Pajaro and Casa Mikayla in March/April of 2008. Both Casas are nearly identical with Mikayla having the advantage of a little better view of the ocean. We were completely satisfied with the accomodations and enjoyed our visit immensely. The beach is very close by and Sayulita is a short 15 minute walk either down the quiet road or on the beach. Relaxing in your own private pool is a huge plus. We also enjoyed swimming, snorkeling, and boogie boarding in the ocean. The shops and restaurants in Sayulita were a delight as well. The design of the the Casas is very well thought out and by use of multi levels, stone retaining walls, and lush plant foilage you barely notice others on the property. The plants that are growing all around are absolutely beautiful and tended to daily by a very hard working gardener. The pool and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. The onsite staff is very helpful. The kitchen has everything you will need to prepare meals just bring your own food and drink. The owners Barry & Connie are very nice people and helped with any and all questions. Would we stay here again? No doubt about it. Adios, Dan
