Accommodations:  House, 2 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 3 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)

Keywords:  villa

Just 30 minutes from the Puerto Vallarta airport where the jungle meets the ocean on a beautiful gently sloping hillside, and only 75 yards from the ocean sits Casa Mikayla, a tropical paradise in wonderful, sunny Sayulita! Fully-furnished home features ocean and jungle views from every room, incredible gardens, gated entry with a private ocean view pool all on one-plus acre of private land! Both bedrooms suites have king size beds and one has a panoramic ocean view.

We live right next door to the estate to assure that your vacation will be all you expect it to be. All rooms are furnished with the finest amenities such as Ralph Lauren towels, 200 thread count all cotton sheets (only natural fiber products are used throughout), down pillows, television with DVD players and a DVD library of TV sets & movies, hand woven Guatemalan fabrics for all curtains and pillow covers, our personal art collection from travels throughout Mexico/Guatemala, furnishings that will allow you all the comforts you need while enjoying our incredible villa. Our kitchens are stocked with as many small appliances, coffee cups, wine glasses, plates, bowls, etc. as you have in your own homes. The kitchen ware is matching Fiesta ware. Everything in the kitchen is in abundance.

The villa is located at "Villas Rana Verde" Sayulita's premiere estate property, we are one of the largest pieces of estate property in Sayulita. The beach across the street is one of the most pristine, sandy, private beaches with the cleanest water in Sayulita. The beach is just a 2 minute walk on cobblestone from our front gate. It is not unusual to be the only person on the beach for 1/4 mile in each direction. There is great surf fishing on the beach right across the street from the estate. The fisherman regularly catch snook, sea bass, grouper and many other varieties. It is a nesting grounds for Leatherback turtles who can be seen in the early morning hours and late evenings during summer months laying their eggs or hiding the nests before their return to the ocean.

We are located about 1/2 mile from the village in the exclusive north beach area of private villas away from the night noise of the village with its roosters (why do they have to start crowing at 2:30AM?), cantinas, and Saturday night disco, and all night drum circles. Your quiet night of sleep is assured. We are directly across from the ocean. You may appreciate not being right on the ocean when the big surf comes and the noise is so loud and strong that it is a constant pounding, when your clothes and sheets are damp all the time from the mist from the waves crashing on the beach, and you have to shout to hear each other talk. The short 10 minute walk to town can be along the pristine, sandy beach or a quiet, low traffic paved road.

We provide everything you need for a luxurious and relaxing stay. Hair dryers in every bathroom, organic fruit from the estate for your table, daily maid and pool service, optional cook, beach towels (chairs and umbrellas too), fresh flowers, the best of everything, all in the very private setting. Our villas can not be seen by each other or by the surrounding villas. Our driver can pick you up at the airport in an air conditioned Suburban with cold drinks of your choice. If you are looking for a very private getaway without even leaving the estate, our cook can prepare the best Mexican meals. She brings her masa dough for tortillas, along with her wooden press (many guests enjoy pitching in and making their own tortillas, it is lots of fun with Lucia), and she prepares salsa, guacamole, rice, beans, and 2 entrees with your choice of chile rellenos, shrimp, fish, chicken, pork or beef. Most guests tell me this is one of the highlights of their trip.

Our lovely estate is home to the most beautiful birds that you are likely to witness outside the most complete aviary of exotic, tropical, colorful birds. We have identified over 100 varieties of these magnificent creatures. There is an even larger abundance if you venture into the nearby jungle.

The best tropical garden in Sayulita is at your doorstep all within the private, gated compound. We have so many varieties of palms, sweet smelling exotic flowers, flowering trees, organic fruit for your table, and much more for your enjoyment. If you love to garden, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live your dream in a tropical paradise. Meander through our many cobblestone pathways into a tropical botanical paradise seldom seen on private grounds.

We have the best home, pool, garden, location, view and amenities in Sayulita! We are, arguably, the best estate property in Sayulita. No matter how beautiful you imagine our estate to be, when you get there it is twice as beautiful

Experience Mexico at its best. Outside Magazine calls Sayulita "the best place to hang a hammock." Check out why AARP magazine article calls Sayulita one of the best places in the world to retire. Good Morning America called Sayulita one of the best places to take a family vacation. The New York Times, San Jose Mercury, LA Times and many more have all written fantastic articles on Sayulita. You will not experience a more beautiful, untouched paradise anywhere!

Our other homes Casa Pajaro and Casa Rana Verde are also located on the estate. When rented together we can provide you with 7 bedrooms, 10 baths, 3 kitchens, 4 pools with built in beds for 17 people. They make a fantastic venue for a wedding celebration, extended family or multi family vacation, holistic retreat or vacation camp!

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Barry & Connie Dumont moved here from Santa Cruz, CA in 2003. They had been Realtors in Santa Cruz, CA for the previous 20 years. They have four children, one of whom has moved to Sayulita and owns and operates Galeria Gypsy in the village of Sayulita. They have always had a keen interest in Mexico and south, and were frequent visitors during the 70s to Mexico, Guatemala and Columbia. Once the four had grown, they renewed their love affair Mexico and made the move to Mexico full time in 2003. They live next door to the villas. They travel to the interior of Mexico and as buyers for their daughter's store several times a year, and when in Sayulita are surfing and enjoying the fantastic laid back lifestyle.

Why the Owner Chose Sayulita

Why the Owner Chose Sayulita

My wife and I came to Sayulita in 1995. We immediately loved the wonderful ambiance, weather, ocean and great people. We were living in Santa Cruz, CA at the time, which we love for many of the reasons. As the years went by we were spending more time each year in Sayulita. We moved here full time in 2003 and have never regretted a day. We live next door to the villas full time, so we are here to be sure that everything runs at 100% efficiency all the time. We love surfing in warm water, the beaches, weather, jungle, small village atmosphere, the people, etc. There is a reason why everyone is talking about Sayulita, but that reason is actually many reasons. It is just a fantastic place to live or visit! Come and visit us and discover why so many of our guests describe our villas in superlative terms. We make it great for you!

The Unique Benefits of this House

Our estate is a fantastic venue for any size group of up to 15-20 people, depending on whether there are families, couples or singles. All villas have their own private pool. Our full acre plus property is landscaped with the finest garden in Sayulita. Due to the extensive 15 year garden and other landscaping, there is total privacy everywhere. There is maid service/garden/pool every day. There is a fantastic cook that prepares, serves and cleans up after an 8 plate meal for $6.50/person plus the cost of the food. We use only the finest for your bedding, cooking, bathing, etc, so that when you come here, the comforts are much like what you are accustomed to at home. Our driver will pick you up the airport, insuring your comfort and safety to and from the villas. Our ocean views are unsurpassed in Sayulita. It is just a 2 minute walk on cobblestone to the sandy, pristine beach from our gate, and only a 12 minute walk to the village of Sayulita by sandy beach or quiet dirt road. We live next door to insure that your needs are fulfilled. We care about your stay and want to make the best it can be!

Casa Mikayla - Dec 31 - Jan 7, 2012

Guest: Barbara (Fort McMurray. AB)
Date of Stay: 12/31/11 Review Submitted: 01/14/12

Casa Mikayla exceeded our family's expectations. Views of the Pacific, the sounds of the surf and the gentle breezes, the comfortable lodgings....the absolutely terrific home cooked meal by Lucia, and even the albino gecko which roamed the walls. We were very pleased. The beach near the casa was lovely, often we were the only ones there. We mostly made two trips into town each day and evening. The walk is pleasant, Sayulita is a real gem of a village with fantastic restaurants and a fabulous silver smith. We will definitely come back.

Best vacation bedroom ever...

Guest: mountainfamily (Canadian Rockies)
Date of Stay: 03/30/11 Review Submitted: 12/05/11

Our family stayed at Mikayla for a few nights while we waited for the bigger Rana Verde property to come available and found the upper room to be one of the best bedrooms we have experienced on vacation before...very comfy matress, lots of room, litle beds brought in for the kids, beautiful bathroom and a stunning peacefull veranda overlooking the ocean to sneak out early with a cup of coffee and a book onto...I enjoyed watching the busy Sayulita mornings unfold from there each day...little projects getting started, gardening, pruning and sweeping...Something so simple and calm about it all. The kids would play in the pool till noon, then we would head down the groovy jungle path to the beach, loaded with chairs, umbrellas and boogieboards all from the plentiful supply at the property. We had the ladies cook for us one day...worth it in every way, and felt taken care of by the owners and staff. The property was covered in interesting plants and fun jungley walkways and paths for the kids to safely play around. LOVED IT!

A Satisfied Guy

Guest: Willie (Boulder, Co., USA)
Date of Stay: 12/05/10 Review Submitted: 12/03/11

I stayed with my wife and child at Casa Mikala between November 5 - 12. We had a wonderful time. From the personalized welcome, to the beautiful room we slept in, we totally enjoyed our stay. We loved the privacy. The north end of town location afforded a perfect distance to walk back and forth to town. (Though even closer than town's center, we found perfectly good restaurants to walk to which helped when we were tired.) One night we had a prepared dinner (extra charge) right at our room. It was delicious. Really, we were very content to stay right in our spacious casita, which had its own pool, and avoid the hustle and bustle of town. The beach in front of our hotel was about a 2 minute walk away and never had many people. We so enjoyed the quiet and privacy. The owners were kind and helpful, the room spotlessly clean. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. By the way, the dates I stayed were Nov 5 - 12, 2011. I couldn't get the Date of Arrival (below) to work properly.

thanksgiving escape

Date of Stay: 11/19/11 Review Submitted: 11/29/11

Our family is still reveling in our wonderful time in Sayulita. Staying at Casa Mikayla was a very big part of that. We very much appreciated the beautiful artistic details, sweeping views and feeling of isolation. It was just myself, husband and 1 year baby and probably had more than enough room. The lower section was free and we took full advantage to wrangle the toddler in and enjoy the lounge chairs. The quieter north end of town was preferred for us, and we like babies at night. The only annoying thing was the sounds of construction from Pajaro Fuego (only during the day, but annoying none the less). The walk into and back from town was actually a nice way to burn off the mexican food and beers. We ended up renting a golf cart for a couple days of the trip as a fun way to get around but not necessary (disclaimer, this is not a handicapped accessible property). Barry and Connie are great and clearly have great taste, their shop is super cool. Lucia was lovely, we recommend having her prep dinner for you if you can, we even arranged to have her watch our boy for a couple hours. All in all an outstanding family trip, we hope to return with more family soon!

Casa Mikayla after torrential rains

Guest: Jungle Explorers (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/17/10 Review Submitted: 10/07/10

The view from Casa Mikayla is, as the owner states, spectacular. The house sets on a mountainside, with tree tops, birds, and butterflies at eye level. The pool is beautiful and refreshing; the bedrooms, bath, and kitchen are wonderful, but I would have like to have a change of sheets in our 2-week stay. In addition, the driver who was supposed to meet us at the Puerta Vallarta airport was not there. We finally negotiated a taxi for the long trip to Sayulita where no one was on the property to meet us so finding a key was a challenge and somewhat frightening as the owner was in CA. We did not have hot water for 3 days because the hot water tank pilot light was out, and housekeeping, who works 6 of 7 days, did not appear until our 3rd day on the property. Once we reported these facts, via e-mail, to the owner, all was set right immediately. The staff on site proved to be accommodating and efficient thereafter, delivering clean towels, fresh limes, and bananas often. We were there during the off-season, the rainy season, so we experienced power outages, heavy rains at night, high humidity, and clouds of mosquitoes. You must pack bug spray! We were awakened each morning by the sounds of jackhammers as Sayulita tried to shore up the mountains, repair washed out streets, and continue to build on the north end of town. In addition, the bridge connecting the north end to the village was wahed away although a wood plank provided access to people on foot. The owner was not responsible for torrential rains, bridges washed away, jackhammers, or power outages, but be warned, if you go in September, you may not find the paradise you imagined. The owner told us, prior to our visit, that we would not see Sayulita at its best--a huge understatement. Finally, the surf is for surfers; it's not a swimming beach, especially if you and yours are not strong swimmers. Besides Sayulita, you will enjoy restaurants and the beaches in Bucerias (south) or Rincon de Guayabitos (north) as much if not more than Sayulita unless you are a surfer. Be sure to take advantage of Lucia's cooking while staying on the property. Her chile rellenos are better than any other we tried from Compostela to San Sebastian and Puerta Vallarta. The fish tacos at the Tequila Bar in Sayulita are also excellent. For a stay in season, I cannot recommend the property's beauty highly enough. Off season--be warned!

Owner response:I am very concerned about this review. I always feel bad if our guests do not have a 100% positive experience. We try very hard to make it that way for them. A confluence of unfortunate circumstances contributed to this problem. First and foremost was that this guest stayed days after Sayulita had what was called a "100 year storm". To say that the town and many homes were not doing well is an understatement. There were landslides, flooding, most of the bridges within 30 miles were down, etc. I called the guests before they came to warn them that Sayulita was having serious problems in the aftermath of the storm. I suggested that they take a rain check or refund. They choose to come anyway. I told them I would not be here as I had to be in CA. My maid and driver who are husband and wife had a river running through their casa and 2 of their 7 children were very sick. They were extremely preoccupied with their personal problems. None of this is an acceptable excuse, but those are the facts. As soon as I found out they were having problems, I contacted the employees here immediately to rectify the situation, and it sounds as if things went well after that. The maid insists that she did change the sheets. She always does each week, or sooner on request. We try to do our best for our guests, but sometimes things happen beyond our control.

My husband and I and two of our friends stayed in Casa Mikayla for a week. It was FANTASTIC!! The house was so peacful and relaxing. We loved the pool, the decorations, the location. The beach on the North end (near the house) is so much nicer than in town. We had an easy walk to La Terazola, our favorite restaurant and beach hang out. We'd DEFINITELY stay at Casa Mikayla again. thanks for a wonderful time!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Mikayla. It is well built, tastefully decorated, and in a great location for the ultimate 'Sayulita Experience'! We particularly liked the view from the upper deck for scoping the surf and walking the beach down to the main break. Would definitely like to return.

We spent three glorious weeks in Sayulita sharing Casa Mikaela with our daughter's future in-laws. One might say we celebrated our respective children's honeymoon for them. In May we all return for the wedding. What a paradise!! Endless days of perfect weather in which to stroll the beach, eat remarkable food, swim and fish... and that's not even the daily margaritas by the pool. Barry and Connie are the most welcoming of hosts and have helped create a storybook place for our daughter's wedding. We loved their cook Lucia who agreed to cook for the whole wedding and the entire property is spectacular lovingly maintained. We're counting sleeps till we return.

Hola Amigo, My family of four and I stayed at Casa Pajaro and Casa Mikayla in March/April of 2008. Both Casas are nearly identical with Mikayla having the advantage of a little better view of the ocean. We were completely satisfied with the accomodations and enjoyed our visit immensely. The beach is very close by and Sayulita is a short 15 minute walk either down the quiet road or on the beach. Relaxing in your own private pool is a huge plus. We also enjoyed swimming, snorkeling, and boogie boarding in the ocean. The shops and restaurants in Sayulita were a delight as well. The design of the the Casas is very well thought out and by use of multi levels, stone retaining walls, and lush plant foilage you barely notice others on the property. The plants that are growing all around are absolutely beautiful and tended to daily by a very hard working gardener. The pool and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. The onsite staff is very helpful. The kitchen has everything you will need to prepare meals just bring your own food and drink. The owners Barry & Connie are very nice people and helped with any and all questions. Would we stay here again? No doubt about it. Adios, Dan
