Casa Mikayla - Dec 31 - Jan 7, 2012

Guest: Barbara (Fort McMurray. AB)
Date of Stay: 12/31/11 Review Submitted: 01/14/12

Casa Mikayla exceeded our family's expectations. Views of the Pacific, the sounds of the surf and the gentle breezes, the comfortable lodgings....the absolutely terrific home cooked meal by Lucia, and even the albino gecko which roamed the walls. We were very pleased. The beach near the casa was lovely, often we were the only ones there. We mostly made two trips into town each day and evening. The walk is pleasant, Sayulita is a real gem of a village with fantastic restaurants and a fabulous silver smith. We will definitely come back.

Our family is still reveling in our wonderful time in Sayulita. Staying at Casa Mikayla was a very big part of that. We very much appreciated the beautiful artistic details, sweeping views and feeling of isolation. It was just myself, husband and 1 year baby and probably had more than enough room. The lower section was free and we took full advantage to wrangle the toddler in and enjoy the lounge chairs. The quieter north end of town was preferred for us, and we like babies at night. The only annoying thing was the sounds of construction from Pajaro Fuego (only during the day, but annoying none the less). The walk into and back from town was actually a nice way to burn off the mexican food and beers. We ended up renting a golf cart for a couple days of the trip as a fun way to get around but not necessary (disclaimer, this is not a handicapped accessible property). Barry and Connie are great and clearly have great taste, their shop is super cool. Lucia was lovely, we recommend having her prep dinner for you if you can, we even arranged to have her watch our boy for a couple hours. All in all an outstanding family trip, we hope to return with more family soon!

Best vacation bedroom ever...

Guest: mountainfamily (Canadian Rockies)
Date of Stay: 03/30/11 Review Submitted: 12/05/11

Our family stayed at Mikayla for a few nights while we waited for the bigger Rana Verde property to come available and found the upper room to be one of the best bedrooms we have experienced on vacation before...very comfy matress, lots of room, litle beds brought in for the kids, beautiful bathroom and a stunning peacefull veranda overlooking the ocean to sneak out early with a cup of coffee and a book onto...I enjoyed watching the busy Sayulita mornings unfold from there each day...little projects getting started, gardening, pruning and sweeping...Something so simple and calm about it all. The kids would play in the pool till noon, then we would head down the groovy jungle path to the beach, loaded with chairs, umbrellas and boogieboards all from the plentiful supply at the property. We had the ladies cook for us one day...worth it in every way, and felt taken care of by the owners and staff. The property was covered in interesting plants and fun jungley walkways and paths for the kids to safely play around. LOVED IT!

A Satisfied Guy

Date of Stay: 12/05/10 Review Submitted: 12/03/11

I stayed with my wife and child at Casa Mikala between November 5 - 12. We had a wonderful time. From the personalized welcome, to the beautiful room we slept in, we totally enjoyed our stay. We loved the privacy. The north end of town location afforded a perfect distance to walk back and forth to town. (Though even closer than town's center, we found perfectly good restaurants to walk to which helped when we were tired.) One night we had a prepared dinner (extra charge) right at our room. It was delicious. Really, we were very content to stay right in our spacious casita, which had its own pool, and avoid the hustle and bustle of town. The beach in front of our hotel was about a 2 minute walk away and never had many people. We so enjoyed the quiet and privacy. The owners were kind and helpful, the room spotlessly clean. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. By the way, the dates I stayed were Nov 5 - 12, 2011. I couldn't get the Date of Arrival (below) to work properly.

Casa Mikayla after torrential rains

Guest: Jungle Explorers (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/17/10 Review Submitted: 10/07/10

The view from Casa Mikayla is, as the owner states, spectacular. The house sets on a mountainside, with tree tops, birds, and butterflies at eye level. The pool is beautiful and refreshing; the bedrooms, bath, and kitchen are wonderful, but I would have like to have a change of sheets in our 2-week stay. In addition, the driver who was supposed to meet us at the Puerta Vallarta airport was not there. We finally negotiated a taxi for the long trip to Sayulita where no one was on the property to meet us so finding a key was a challenge and somewhat frightening as the owner was in CA. We did not have hot water for 3 days because the hot water tank pilot light was out, and housekeeping, who works 6 of 7 days, did not appear until our 3rd day on the property. Once we reported these facts, via e-mail, to the owner, all was set right immediately. The staff on site proved to be accommodating and efficient thereafter, delivering clean towels, fresh limes, and bananas often. We were there during the off-season, the rainy season, so we experienced power outages, heavy rains at night, high humidity, and clouds of mosquitoes. You must pack bug spray! We were awakened each morning by the sounds of jackhammers as Sayulita tried to shore up the mountains, repair washed out streets, and continue to build on the north end of town. In addition, the bridge connecting the north end to the village was wahed away although a wood plank provided access to people on foot. The owner was not responsible for torrential rains, bridges washed away, jackhammers, or power outages, but be warned, if you go in September, you may not find the paradise you imagined. The owner told us, prior to our visit, that we would not see Sayulita at its best--a huge understatement. Finally, the surf is for surfers; it's not a swimming beach, especially if you and yours are not strong swimmers. Besides Sayulita, you will enjoy restaurants and the beaches in Bucerias (south) or Rincon de Guayabitos (north) as much if not more than Sayulita unless you are a surfer. Be sure to take advantage of Lucia's cooking while staying on the property. Her chile rellenos are better than any other we tried from Compostela to San Sebastian and Puerta Vallarta. The fish tacos at the Tequila Bar in Sayulita are also excellent. For a stay in season, I cannot recommend the property's beauty highly enough. Off season--be warned!

Owner response:I am very concerned about this review. I always feel bad if our guests do not have a 100% positive experience. We try very hard to make it that way for them. A confluence of unfortunate circumstances contributed to this problem. First and foremost was that this guest stayed days after Sayulita had what was called a "100 year storm". To say that the town and many homes were not doing well is an understatement. There were landslides, flooding, most of the bridges within 30 miles were down, etc. I called the guests before they came to warn them that Sayulita was having serious problems in the aftermath of the storm. I suggested that they take a rain check or refund. They choose to come anyway. I told them I would not be here as I had to be in CA. My maid and driver who are husband and wife had a river running through their casa and 2 of their 7 children were very sick. They were extremely preoccupied with their personal problems. None of this is an acceptable excuse, but those are the facts. As soon as I found out they were having problems, I contacted the employees here immediately to rectify the situation, and it sounds as if things went well after that. The maid insists that she did change the sheets. She always does each week, or sooner on request. We try to do our best for our guests, but sometimes things happen beyond our control.

My husband and I and two of our friends stayed in Casa Mikayla for a week. It was FANTASTIC!! The house was so peacful and relaxing. We loved the pool, the decorations, the location. The beach on the North end (near the house) is so much nicer than in town. We had an easy walk to La Terazola, our favorite restaurant and beach hang out. We'd DEFINITELY stay at Casa Mikayla again. thanks for a wonderful time!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Mikayla. It is well built, tastefully decorated, and in a great location for the ultimate 'Sayulita Experience'! We particularly liked the view from the upper deck for scoping the surf and walking the beach down to the main break. Would definitely like to return.

We spent three glorious weeks in Sayulita sharing Casa Mikaela with our daughter's future in-laws. One might say we celebrated our respective children's honeymoon for them. In May we all return for the wedding. What a paradise!! Endless days of perfect weather in which to stroll the beach, eat remarkable food, swim and fish... and that's not even the daily margaritas by the pool. Barry and Connie are the most welcoming of hosts and have helped create a storybook place for our daughter's wedding. We loved their cook Lucia who agreed to cook for the whole wedding and the entire property is spectacular lovingly maintained. We're counting sleeps till we return.

Hola Amigo, My family of four and I stayed at Casa Pajaro and Casa Mikayla in March/April of 2008. Both Casas are nearly identical with Mikayla having the advantage of a little better view of the ocean. We were completely satisfied with the accomodations and enjoyed our visit immensely. The beach is very close by and Sayulita is a short 15 minute walk either down the quiet road or on the beach. Relaxing in your own private pool is a huge plus. We also enjoyed swimming, snorkeling, and boogie boarding in the ocean. The shops and restaurants in Sayulita were a delight as well. The design of the the Casas is very well thought out and by use of multi levels, stone retaining walls, and lush plant foilage you barely notice others on the property. The plants that are growing all around are absolutely beautiful and tended to daily by a very hard working gardener. The pool and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. The onsite staff is very helpful. The kitchen has everything you will need to prepare meals just bring your own food and drink. The owners Barry & Connie are very nice people and helped with any and all questions. Would we stay here again? No doubt about it. Adios, Dan

My husband and I stayed at Casa Mikayla in February 2008 with another couple and had a fantastic time. The home is at the north end of town which is peaceful and tranquil. The decor is charming and comfortable and allowed us to truly relax and feel like we were on a true Mexican holiday. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything one would need and the two bedrooms each have their own bath. The views were spectacular from the upstairs bedroom and the patio and pool area is situated in such a way that one feels as though one is in a tropical tree house. Lucia, the housekeeper and cook, made an absolutely delicious meal our first night there. We would definitley return to Casa Mikayla!
