A Wonderful Place to Spend Winter
A Wonderful Place to Spend Winter
My husband and I spent January & February of 2013 in this beautiful home. It was very quiet and private and the back porch looks out over beautiful Lake Johns. We sat with our coffee in the mornings just looking at the lake and watching the abundance of wildlife. The house is very clean and well maintained and the pictures shown denote the wonderful surroundings. The owner or the caretaker were always available to answer any questions or concerns. The best feature is your feeling of being out in a very private setting, yet shopping and many other attractions are just a short trip away from home. It is also conveniently located to major turnpikes and freeways. We especially loved historic "Old Winter Garden" just a few blocks away. There were many quaint little shops and a lot of nice restaurants and cafes to visit. We were especially fond of the "Moon Cricket Café." Around 8:00 p.m. every evening, you could enjoy the "fireworks" Disney displays because they could be seen directly through the back patio doors. We loved being there and would recommend it as a "great" place to winter or as a convenient place to stay any time of year as it is close to Disney and many other attractions in Florida because the house is so centrally located.

A Perfect Spring Retreat
A Perfect Spring Retreat
My family came to Orlando to celebrate Easter. The house at John's Lake was relaxing and gave us a quiet place to spend time together. The kids really loved the Easter Egg Hunt that we held in the yard and the dad's enjoyed their time fishing along the lake shore. My sisters and I even found time to "slip" away to go antique shopping in Winter Garden! I can't wait until we get to stay here again.

Home Away From Home!
Home Away From Home!
We were looking for a place to stay close enough to Disney to be convenient, and far enough away to stay clear of the "tourist traps", congestion, and general concrete jungle that is International Drive. But I didn't want an hour drive to the parks, either. We also wanted to feel at home and on vacation at the same time--a tall order! A friend of ours who had stayed here before suggested this home to us. It was our first time renting an entire home instead of staying in a hotel---and I am so glad we did! My husband and I stayed in the master bedroom so we had our own private getaway. We had wine on the screened porch off our room at night and watched the sun set (or the occasional distant storm), and in the morning enjoyed our coffee while watching the kids run run run around the huge yard. Sometimes we ventured into Winter Garden (its adorable!) for a meal or shopping, but when we weren't at the parks we loved cooking at "home." There are some neat shops and spots to eat along the downtown street (including a great Thai place). We went in the canoe a few times and we even caught a couple of bass and cooked them up! They were delicious! And on the nights we got home in time we would stand at the point and watch the Disney fireworks in the distance. The pictures don't do the place justice at all. It is so cozy, yet beautifully decorated and it was immaculate! We didn't have any issues that we needed to talk to the owner about, but prior to our visit I had asked her for suggestions about places in the area to eat or explore and she was great. Southern hospitality at its best! For us it was perfect--my husband and I had our romantic spot at the back of the house! Our kids each had their own room (with flat screen tvs) and tons of room to run and play. We already put our deposit down for next year and have suggested the Lake House to our neighbors. Have fun!!! You won't regret staying here for a minute and you may never want to leave!

This is true!
This is true!
My sister and I stayed here and it is such a beautiful out of the way place, with downtown Winter Garden and Malls close by. Orlando is about 30 min on the Fl turnpike. Oh, and the Disney fireworks can be seen every night at 10pm across the lake. We truly had a great time.

About the owner: This property has been owned and occupied and lovingly cared for by the same family since the 1930s. The current home, built in 1957, replaced the family's original Florida Cracker home, which was claimed by the state when the Florida Turnpike was constructed.
Why the Owner Chose Winter Garden:
In the midst of Central Florida's enormous development over the last four decades, every now and then one comes upon a place of peace reminiscent of Old Florida. This property is one of those, sitting beneath an ancient Heritage Oak, thousands of years old and on a cove once occupied by the area's Native Americans. In fact, in the 1980s, during a drought, a dug-out canoe, a thousand years old, was found along the shore in front of the house. It can be seen at the Orange County Historical Museum. From the deck, sunsets are breath-taking, and the nocturnal chorus from the lake's occupants is wonderful: frogs of many species, crickets, even bull gators. Away from light pollution, the night sky is a beautiful starry canopy, and breezes in the treetops is a lullaby.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Location, location, location: where easy access to everything meets the peace of natural Florida.
