The new owners of the Sombrero Resort and Marina are proving to be difficult to deal with and, as of August 1, 2014, they are restricting use of the pool and tennis courts to resort guest only. The individual condo owners, ourselves included, have been attempting to arrive at an agreement that would allow access to these facilities but to no avail. As such I must inform any prospective renters that our unit does not include access to these facilities until further notice. I apologize for the inconvenience. Tim
May 15 UPDATE : All the work has been done. New tile throughout, new bathroom fixtures. Everything looks great! A new sofa sleeper mattress is coming as some of our friends commented that the mattress was not comfortable. SUCH a big improvement. I was down for the HOA meeting this week and checked it all out. March 27, 2014 update: We are scheduled to leave our beautiful Keys home on April 2. April 3 the tile guys roll in and the whole place gets new tile. The bathroom fixtures will be replaced and the place will have a whole new look! The internet connection speeds are right on spec. We have purchased a new set of nonstick pans which are working our very well. A new coffee make, new drying rack on the patio and a wall organizer in the closet are all nice little touches. Amazing music almost everyday down at the Dockside Tropical Cafe with Eric Stone, the new owner, his band and some excellent talent coming through town. Marathon is vibrant and growing with several new projects underway. We can't possibly sample all of the approximately 72 restaurants here but we are trying! Come on down! Tim and Glenda
January 11, 2014 update: During our visit in early December we upgraded the bedding with 600 thread count sheets, king pillows and comforter. On the patio we added some very cool recycled mats, new chairs and a beautiful piece of Haitian oil drum art. Comcast cable services were upgraded and we shopped for a new recliner but were unable to find a small one that we liked. The best news is the opening of the Dockside Tropical Cafe just down the docks from Sombrero. Musician Eric Stone has done a wonderful job of redecorating this great waterfront restaurant within crawling distance of the condo. He will be bringing in regional and national acts so be sure to head over there when you arrive and check the schedule. He has a great selection of rum and great food as well.
Recently acquired, our unit is totally updated with new King bed, new leather queen sleeper sofa. 2 flat screen, internet connected TVs, dedicated hi speed internet ( 25 Mbps down/4 Mbps up ). Sombrero Resort and Marina is centrally located to all of Marathon activities, beach and shopping. Walking distance to Publix grocery store, KMART, Post office, restaurants, marina, golf course and Walgreens. Virtually anything you need is a short walk or bike ride.

Why Marathon: Unit 429 is one of the best units in the Sombrero complex. The patio off of the bedroom faces West for sunsets and is cool and comfy until midday, protected from the rising sun. The views from the top floor include Boot Key Harbor, the golf course across the road and the pool area. One big point that drove our selection of this unit is that the bedroom faces away from the pool and Tiki bar. This allows for a great night's sleep even if the music and the party at the Tiki bar are in full swing.
