The apartments are located in a small palace dating back to the 15th century in via dei Cordari, a small pedestrian road very close to Piazza Duomo, Porta Marina and to the sea front. Both apartments have been recently renovated using traditional materials, and retain several old architectural and decorative elements (face exposed arches and niches). The apartments suit perfectly for a comfortable stay in the heart of Ortigia, the historical centre of Siracuse.

The apartment with terrace on the second and third floor is accessed through a charming entrance with columns and arches, and a large and sunny staircase. The apartment offers a living area of about 80 sqm and a 10 sqm terrace. On the second floor there is a dining room, a fully equipped kitchen (with oven and dishwasher), a living room with a double sofa bed (all three rooms have a balcony) and a bathroom with shower (with laundry machine and tumble dryer). On the third floor, reached by a wooden staircase, there is a double bedroom with a roof window (max height 2,2 mt), a small mansard veiled by sliding curtains (max height 2,20 mt) with a double bed, a bathroom with a bathtub, and a terrace - full of sun and evergreen plants - with a picturesque view on the roofs of Ortigia. The apartment has been renovated using old and precious materials and has been carefully furnished. It is fully equipped including air-conditioning, ceiling fans, TVset and can accommodate up to 6 persons.

We stayed at the apartment "Porta Marina second floor" for 4 nights in June 2011 and were very pleased with the place. The location is perfect, in the middle of Old Town, but in a very small and quiet street. All of Ortigia (the attractions, the restaurants etc) just around the corner. A small supermarket near-by, a brilliant daily market within a comfortable walking distance. The entrance of the house (before you enter the apartment) is not too clean, but then, this is Southern Europe! We found it very amusing and atmospheric. The apartment itself is nice and clean, although not luxurious. Still, it has several beautiful details that we really admired. Great views, a superb and cosy terrace, two nice bathrooms, some old furniture and accessories. We stayed in three places during our two weeks in Sicily and this was the only one that had dish-washer. It also had all kinds of useful stuff like salt, pepper, oil etc (that some apartments unfortunately don't have). As far as bedrooms, yes, actually there is only one separate bedroom (with two single beds), plus two sofa-beds in the living-room, plus a double bed behind the curtain. It certainly sleeps 6, but probably it's not suitable for three couples who all need some privacy. We were a family of four, and for us it was OK, although it took some thinking and discussing about who will sleep where. All in all, we would certainly recommend it to people who appreciate an apartment with character and the best possible location, but who don't get frightened by narrow streets or filthy entrances.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This apartment is in a great location, that is all it has going for it though. We rented the three bedroom flat but it is more like a one bedroom, as the sitting room has a sofa bed which is counted as a third bedroom and the other bedroom upstairs fits a double bed with about 20cm on one side. The two bedrooms upstairs don't have doors only curtains so there is no sound proofing. The bedrooms are built in the roof space, with no AC it would be stifling in summer. To let in light into the upstairs rooms the owners have left holes in the floor and covered them with glass left on bricks. It is just plate glass not safety glass and incredibly dangerous. The entry to the building is dusty and flithy. The washing machine in the flat needs repairing and even though the property manager knew about this he had not got it fixed.Recommended for: Tourists without a car.
