This property is the ideal Elmwood location for visitors to Berkeley.
Set in a newly re-designed and re-landscaped garden, the cottage has preserved its charming architectural detail behind sophisticated and comfortable furnishings.
The living room/dining room area is entered through a dutch door from the covered loggia which runs the length of the cottage. The ceiling is vaulted with beams. A fireplace and built-in bookshelf anchors one end of the room.
There is a sleek Room & Board couch which can convert into a queen bed to sleep up to 2 additional persons. The dining table is set in the recessed front window bay and converts from intimate seating for two to double sized to seat 4.
WiFi is available through out the cottage. The Living Room has a 40' Samsung smart TV with cable and soundbar mounted above additional shelving and storage. The living room lamps provide good light for reading - up to 150 watts as the owner hates bad lighting!
The large bedroom also has a vaulted ceiling with sky lights and sleeps 2 in a Queen-sized bed. Linens are provided for both this bed as well as the one in the living room if used. There is a set of French doors opening out onto the loggia which features a bistro table and two chairs. A cozy loft space above the bed is a perfect reading alcove - and also storage for suitcases, etc.
The bathroom has a spacious shower, sink and toilet and is off the hallway connecting the living room and bedroom, providing separation of the living and sleeping spaces. Towels and a hairdryer are provided.
The fully-equipped kitchen has an electric stove, frost-free refrigerator, microwave, Keurig K-cup coffee maker. A stainless steel chef's table can provide additional prep space or with its stools, a breakfast dining area or seating to enjoy a glass of wine while talking to the cook!
The cottage is heated by a thermostatically controlled gas-fired wall heater in the living room. A Dyson Hot+Cold portable fan is provided for extra cooling or heating in the bedroom.
Outside the kitchen is a utility area where trash and recycling bins are located. There is also a full-sized Weber gas barbecue for use of cottage guests.
Connected to the loggia is a sunny brick patio with a private entry from the parking area, which is available at an additional charge of $50 per week for renter's use. Street parking is limited to 3 hours between 9 and 6 daily except Sundays. Due to the location of the cottage less than a mile from Rockridge BART, a car is not needed to explore Berkeley and San Francisco, but parking is there if you have one.
One of the major intents of the recent re-landscaping project was to create enjoyable private outdoor spaces for both owner and renter in Berkeley's pleasant climate. I hope you will enjoy the outdoor 'rooms' connected with the cottage as much as you will its indoor rooms.

Ideally situated halfway between the UC Berkeley Campus and the Rockridge BART Station, this cottage has easy access to all that College Avenue has to offer residents and visitors: restaurants from moderately priced ethnic eateries to Zagat-rated fine dining to prepared food take-out and pizza; wine shops and delicatessans; a butcher and greengrocer; a French bakery with the rustic baguette voted best in the Bay Area. There is a movie theater and bookstore, lots of shops and boutiques. The Walk Score of 94 says it all!
This is a convenient location for visitors to the UC Berkeley campus as well as for vacationers in the Bay Area. With the Rockridge BART station less than a mile away, trips to explore San Francisco are fast and easy.

About the owner: My name is Mary and while I grew up and went to school in southern California, I moved to the Bay Area in my early 20's and never really looked back. I bought the Elmwood house and cottage 15 years ago and have lived there ever since.
When my long-term tenant gave notice earlier this year, I took the opportunity to reimagine my garden space to better accommodate visiting cottage tenants while maintaining a private area for myself. I have a year-old granddaughter who lives nearby and I wanted a space she would enjoy being in, too.
I am a huge lover of the Elmwood area of Berkeley. The tree-lined streets are shaded in the summer and ablaze with color in the fall. There is a vibrant mix of UC Berkeley students and families in the shops and restaurants nearby and I appreciate being able to walk to do my errands or take BART. The walk score of 94 says it all.
