I highly recommend Hale Aka! If you are a family with kids and/or grandkids, I can’t imagine anything more perfect in the Poipu area. The house is very spacious and clean with a lovely lawn and garden, and is located at the end of the street, so there’s no traffic noise. The house is maintained very well, and the beds were really comfortable! It’s a short walk to some lovely beaches (one great for small children and another with great snorkeling) and there are plenty of places to sit and take in the beautiful views (the turtles are amazing to watch). Although the kitchen in our rental was well equipped and spacious, we thoroughly enjoyed eating many meals at Brennecke’s Restaurant, which is just a short walk from the house. The owner, Larry, made the rental process easy, and our stay trouble-free. We definitely plan to stay at Hale Aka again.

Absolutely perfect! The location is within short walking distance of shopping, snorkeling, wading, surfing, dining, and not-to-forget turtle watching. (My 90 year old mother can attest to that.) The home itself leaves literally nothing to desire - including beach accessories. Our group consisted of 6 adults and three children (5, 3, & 8 months), and we couldn't have been more comfortable. We are looking forward to our return with much anticipation. The owner takes excellent care of the property and its guests, and I would definitely recommend this home to any and all considering it.

Great Family Vacation House

We had the best time staying at the Hale Aka. The location was awesome! The weather wasn't the best when we went to Kauai, but the best weather on the island was always at Poipu beach. The beach was so close to the house we walked bare foot to the beach. Couldn't ask for a nicer owner, Larry is great! Can't wait to go back.

This is the place to be on Kauai .The location which is only a couple of minutes walk to Poipu beach is perfect for a family. We took our two daughters their husbands and our grand daughter on this trip and the house was perfect for our needs. The house is equipped with every thing you need for a fantastic holliday including toys etc for the beach. The owner Larry was very helpful and made sure we had every thing we needed.The property showed a pride of ownership and was very well maintained. We hope to be back in the not too distant future and would definately stay here again.

Perfect "home away from home"

Spent the week here with my family (8 of us) celebrating my 50th birthday. Larry called the house just shortly after we arrived to make sure we'd arrived safely and that everything was OK at the house, then called again just before we left to see how our week had gone. The house was every bit as nice as what is shown in the pictures. And what you don't see in the pictures is the beautiful yard. We spent a great deal of time on the back lanai enjoying the scenery and watching the birds. The beach was close and the location was great for taking day trips to various areas of the island. Poipu Shopping Village is very close (try Keoki's for lunch - the fish tacos and hula pie were awesome). There are also several shops, including Big Save for groceries, just a few minutes away in Koloa. Brennecke's is in walking distance and there's a small snack shop on the ground level which has really good breakfast burritos and some amazing guava turnovers! Overall it was an AMAZING week and we'd recommend this location to anyone considering a trip to Kauai.

The Place to Be on Kauai!!

Beautiful Poipu Beach is the setting for this lovely well-maintained home. You're in paradise, but doing it your way which feels so much like home. Rather than a touristy hotel, you will be emersed in the local culture and the freedom to experience Kauai as the kama aina (native born) do. Everything you need will be there; just bring your bathing suits. The owner is very accomodating and a really nice guy. He helps in every way that he can. My family (nine of us) recently had a family reunion here, and our memories will last a lifetime. Poipu Beach, located on the south sunny side of the island, truly is the best beach on the island, not just for its beauty. There is something for everyone. Enjoy body surfing (the best body surfing beach on Kauai), board surfing, boogie boarding, babies' beach (for todlers), picnicking, watching the sea lions, swimming with the turtles, beach-combing, tide-pooling, If you are honeymooning, the "studio" is perfect for two. Plenty of room and tropical views out of each window. Families will want to rent the 3 bedroom house, or maybe both the house and the studio. And just a block away is the beach! Thank you Larry, for providing such a great place for our vacation!

This house is bigger than the pictures make it look. We were a party of eight adults, a blended family and we had plenty of room. We have absolutely no complaints with the house. The owner, Larry stopped by a couple of times to make sure everything was OK. It really is close to the beach and we found Brenneckes beach (closest) to be our favourite. The Poipu area is a great base for an island stay and with the unsettled weather for the Christmas week we found the best place to find sun on the island was right at home at Hale Aka We had a truly amazing hike too on the sand cliffs to the east, past the Poipu Bay Golf course. 100% recommendation.

Home in Paradise

We rented the 3 bedroom/2 bath portion from a week in October 2010. The house was very comfortable and spacious. The kitchen was fully furnished with everything we needed. The patio was relaxing. The house has beach chairs, mats, umbrellas, toys for our son and even a grill. The best part was the proximity to Poipu beach. It took us 3 minutes at the most. We did snorkeling and saw turtles. The owner Larry is a gem. I asked him for restaurant suggestions and got a detailed multi page email. We tried most of them and loved it. Kauai is now my favorite HI island. When we go back we will stay at Hale Aka.

Our family recently stayed a week at Hale Aka and had a wonderful, relaxing vacation. We walked five minutes down to the beaches every day-- the waves were perfect for boogie boards! The snorkeling was beautiful at Poipu Beach. The house was lovely; very clean and comfortable, and well-equipped for all our needs. The islanders were friendly and helpful. Shopping and dining are both very close by. It was a great week, would love to do it again!

Wow!! We and another family stayed at Hale Aka for the first two weeks of January 2010. What a way to ring in the new year! Too much fun to describe. The house is in a perfect location next to the best beaches, surf shop, deli, and bar/restaurant on the island. Even with three little girls (5, 4, and 2), it's all within walking distance!!! The house is fully equipped and everything about it is perfect and comfortable. We were right at home and none of us wanted to leave. During our stay my daughter turned 5 and my parents flew over to surprise her. They rented the studio and we had the entire house to ourselves. We loved every minute of it. Larry (the owner) is the best!!!!! He was great from start to finish. He was always happy to help and gave us great advice for our adventures. He and his house are gems. We hope to return year after year!!!!

Our group came to Hale Aka from all over the US (Arizona, Maryland, New York, Alaska and New Jersey) to celebrate a 50th Birthday. The October weather was perfect and the vacation home was even more perfect. The pictures do NOT do justice to Beautiful Hale Aka - it is Wonderful. The group of ten was more than comfortable - plenty of room to enjoy the fabulous accommodations. So close to the beach with a 2 minute walk, we enjoyed lots of snorkling and relaxing on the beach. Everything we needed was there, from kitchen to beach items. Easy to get anywhere on the island. Our group loved it so much, we have already booked our return for this 2010. If you are looking for an amazing vacation home, perfect beach, and beautiful sunsets, look no more!!

I stayed at Hale Aka last July with my family from Austria. We had a wonderful time. It is a wonderful house, quiet, clean and spacious. We had 2 teenagers with us and they loved all the games and beach toys at the house. Larry the owner was super nice and as a local knows everything about Kauai. Everything is really close by (beach, restaurants, diving, etc). Can't wait to go back.

More than fabulous! We took our daughter's entire wedding party to Kauai for her wedding for the entire week in late October,& we could not have found a more wonderful home & host than the Hale Aka! Larry(0wner) helped connect me to people on the island, & when we got to the house..it was like coming home! Completely furnished & so clean! NO BUGS! Just for a treat every morning, my husband walked 2 minutes down the street from the home (on the beach!) to get me fresh coffee & a homemade breakfast sandwich so we did not "have" to cook every day if we did not want to!(even though there is a completely furnished kitchen!) It was so nice staying in the true beautiful Kauai & then being able to go to the great shops, go site seeing, or walk on the beach! Our guests did everything from kayaking to the helecopter rides. And they loved especially the original Luau that Larry said was the BEST!! Larry gave such great tips, that our guests had an absolute blast! Me..I just stayed at Hale Aka most of the time, enjoying the breeze on the lanai as it was the best quiet & serene vacation I have had in such a long time! With 3 lanai's all off of each bedroom, spacious kitchen, we had it all! And being able to have a 5 Star wedding at THE BEACH HOUSE Restaurant only 5 minutes from the house, we had a Dream Wedding in Paradise! I not only found a phenomenal rental home that had all the comforts of home, the owner was so helpful to make our stay a trip of a life time & a wedding our daughter will never forget! THIS was one lucky find!

My wife and I had a wonderful time at Hale Aka with our toddler and his grandparents. It was the perfect spot for low-key hanging out, and a great take-off point for drives around the island. The house is wonderful and we're looking forward to coming back soon. The surf shop is just down the road, and they'll rent you boards for the whole week.

Our visit to Kauai and "Hale Aka" was wonderful. What a beautiful island. The spacious 4 bedroom house was awesome. Very clean and comfortable. The lanai was a great place to have a Mai Tai cocktail, listen to the ocean and feel the warm breeze. The beach was such a short walk and so much fun(rent a boogie board the waves are a blast)I would defiantly rent "Hale Aka" again.

Hale Aka is a wonderful place to spend your vacation. Not only is it located in a prime location on Kauai, the home is nicely decorated and furnished with all the amenities you need. The back porch is a great place to relax. Hale Aka is so nice that we have gone back a second time. If you are going to Kauai, this is the place to stay! I would highly recommend Hale Aka to EVERYONE!

Our visit to Kauai was spectacular, not only because it never rained in 14 days!, but because Hale Aka was so comfortable, spacious, and clean. All six of us fit easily into this large home. We could walk everywhere from here, and enjoyed all the amenities of a lovely house. Even the beds were comfortable!
