Most Premier Whale Watching Vacation Home on San Juan Island
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Located on the west side of San Juan Island, with amazing whale watching, this beautiful, romantic, waterfront vacation home was custom built with attention to the creative details. Situated just a stones throw from the water it is a very secluded island home whose sunny southwestern views of the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca is breathtaking in all seasons. Just short of three acres and 1400 feet of coastline bordered by preservation land provides amazing 'old island' privacy. Enjoy a front row view of the resident Orca whales, who hunt migrating salmon directly offshore and often sleep in the cove.
The Water house is custom finished with a beautiful stone fireplace (Gas flame just recently installed) to enjoy when ambiance and warmth are the inspiration. The fully-equipped kitchen includes a professional Viking stove, a great invitation to the serious chef. A propane BBQ on the deck makes outdoor cooking a breeze.
There is plenty to do with 1400 feet of rocky coves and private beaches to explore. Tide pooling is excellent. Bring your binoculars because bird watching is superb, with resident Harlequin ducks and the local Bald eagle, 'Rocky.' Watch fox, otter, and deer close by, or pack your favorite beverages, a great book and relax on a sandy beach directly in front of the house.
Small beach fires are allowed if a fire ban is not enforced on the island. Best of all is whale watching as this stretch of shoreline has been identified by a whale museum biologist as a feeding area for Orcas. Watch whales pass by from the deck as their family groups come within a few yards of shore, hunting salmon.

We stayed there for three days in early May during a hot period. The views are fantastic. Sitting on the deck in the very comfortable chairs was great. We saw numerous eagles, seals and otters. The town of Friday Harbour was very nice with a lot of very nice places to eat. The owners were very nice and helpfull.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.

We recently returned from a wonderful week at this house on the south western edge of San Juan Island. The building is uniquely sensitive to the very dramatic view with the two main bedrooms and family areas oriented toward the Olympic mountain range, right on the water. In addition to spectacular views from the interior, the exterior has two well appointed decks with outdoor seating, a picnic table and Adirondack chars perfectly placed to appreciate the view. Each evening, we sat with a glass of wine and cheese and watched our children playing on the rocks, a bald eagle flying overhead and sea otters, splashing in the water below. The house has a Viking stove, which was a joy to cook on, a gas fireplace to warm up a cold evening and a very restful quiet character. For people who need a television, there is a large one, but we were captivated by the scenery. As an architect, I really loved how the house responds to the views, turning its back to the neighbors. You really feel at the edge of the world. We hope to come back next year.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

My husband and I took his parents up to San Juan island while they were visiting us for the Thanksgiving holiday last year. This house was the perfect The pictures are great but the property is much more impressive in person. A small windstorm blew through while we were there and we sat for hours watching the waves crash against the rocks outside while sipping coffee by the fire. Very cozy with updated bathrooms and kitchen. We would highly recommend this place.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
