Private Homes house description

Conveniently located at Tanque Verde Rd & Catalina Hwy, in NE Tucson, near Mt. Lemmon. Couples/Families/Groups welcomed! Perfect for Cyclists!

Comfortably sleeps 6 people (2 per bedroom) and can accommodate an additional 2-3 people on a full-size sleeper sofa & a single-size roll-a-way bed. But it is also cozy enough for only 2 people who want to stay in a 'home away from home.' It has even accommodated a large group of 13 cyclists who brought air mattresses and set them up in the spacious Arizona Room.

Pool option during the Summer Season (May 1 - Sep 30). Access to owner's clean and well-kept swimming pool next door, with permission, if you don't mind taking the trail there.

Rustic adobe brick home surrounded by 8.5 acres of desert land and vegetation, but close enough to a main intersection that you have all of the necessary conveniences within walking/biking distance: shopping center, grocery store, drug stores, restaurants, library, banks, mail depot, (even an Urgent Care & the Sheriff's Dept), etc.

Step back in time to what a typical Arizona ranch home was like 100 yrs ago or more! Made from adobe brick, or mud brick, adobe structures are extremely durable and account for some of the oldest existing buildings in the world. Adobe is one of the 'greenest' traditional building materials of the southwest because no trees are cut down and the material is made from the earth's most renewable resource.

The quaint charm of a 1950's Arizona ranch house, yet completely updated and newly remodeled with modern appliances. Unique southwestern decor. Very neat and clean and well-kept. Located in a warm, secluded, private setting. Kitchen features beautiful brand new hickory wood cabinets, new appliances and plenty of space for food/groceries in the walk-in pantry and the large side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. Brand new tile floors throughout the whole house. Living room features a cathedral ceiling and stone fireplace. Bedrooms with lovely exposed wood beams and open raised cathedral ceilings. Huge, northern-facing, picture windows for priceless mountain views! Gorgeous view of the Catalina Mountains, Thimble Peak and Mt. Lemmon.

The Casa Soleada, the sunny house, has an open yard with lots of sunshine, yet is surrounded by property full of lush, mature desert vegetation. It takes 50-75 yrs for a saguaro cactus to grow an arm. There are a dozen saguaro with many arms, making them well-over 100 yrs old! And there are several younger ones on the property as well.

Located on the exclusive Northeast side of Tucson near the foot of Mt. Lemmon. Easy access to the main surface roads of Tucson via E Tanque Verde Rd. Easy access to Mt. Lemmon via Catalina Hwy, which is a 2-lane road also called 'Sky Island Scenic Biway'. (The Santa Catalina Mountains are one of southern Arizona's 'sky islands'). The 30-mile route to Mt. Lemmon's summit, Summerhaven, begins at the T-intersection of E Tanque Verde Rd & E Catalina Hwy and winds its way up to the top of the mountain, changing names along the way from E Catalina Hwy to E Mt Lemmon Hwy, N Mt Lemmon Hwy, N Hitchcock Hwy and finally N General Hitchcock Hwy.

Mt. Lemmon offers cooler temperatures, beautiful pine trees, a lake and recreational opportunities including numerous campgrounds, picnic sites and hiking trails amongst stunning terrain, gorgeous rock formations and scenic views. At the 9,157' peak is an operating ski slope in the winter months (normally providing skiing & snowboarding from late December into March or April) and 'sky rides' on the ski lift in the summer months. There are also restaurants, gift shops, etc.

The Casa Soleada is just minutes from Sabino Canyon & Bear Canyon, in the Coronado National Forest, which are perfect for sightseeing via walking, hiking or a narrated tram ride. Just down the road there's access to miles of newly paved bicycle paths. Excellent location for cyclists! Close to beautiful Agua Caliente Park, perfect for picnics. Near Udall Park with paved walking track, dog park & indoor recreation center. 15 minutes from the iconic Gaslight Theater, Park Place Mall, cinemas and numerous restaurants. Less than 10 minutes from Trail Dust Town (w/restaurants, horse soldier museum, kiddie rides, western stunt show, gun gallery, various shops) and Golf N' Stuff (miniature golf, go karts, bumper boats, laser tag). 15 minutes from Saguaro National Park (with hiking, biking & horse trails, a paved 8 mile loop for a scenic drive or cycling, picnic areas and a free educational desert life video at the visitors center). 30 minutes from Colossal Cave. Just 1 minute from Rocks & Ropes (The Bloc) indoor climbing & fitness center w/yoga classes (w/daily rates & equipment rental; adults & children). Close to several horse boarding stables on the East/Northeast side of Tucson. 10 minutes from Pantano Stables which offers group & private horseback trail rides. For U of A parents--20 mins/11 miles from the University of Arizona.

Closest public Golf Courses: Arizona National (4 miles away), Ventana, 49ers, Fred Enke, La Paloma, Del Lago, Randolph. Numerous other courses within a 40-45 minute drive: Tucson National (home of the PGA tour), The Pines, Arthur Pack, Dove Mountain.

20 minutes from La Encantada Plaza with upscale retail shopping and fine-dining. 20 minutes from central Tucson's famous 4th Avenue historic shopping district with eclectic boutiques, shops and cafes.

Our family had a great time at this lovely home in Tucson. It was exactly as described and pictured. Although there were grocery stores and other amenities close by, once we were at the house it felt like we were at a private retreat in the desert. The house was immaculate, the beds were comfortable, and there were many thoughtful extras including complementary toiletries in case we forgot anything. The kitchen had everything we needed including pans to cook pizza from scratch. Huge saguaros were right outside the back door, and the owners have made a gravel path winding through the desert. We did not use the firepit or pool, but intend to when we visit next time. We travel to Tucson one to two times a year, and this is the best rental we have stayed at. It will be our go to rental in the future. Last but not least, the owners were available and helpful. We didn't have any problems, but we felt they would be deal quickly if anything had come up.

And even more happy that you are going to make it your go-to vacation home. We look forward to hosting you again. Thanks!

We recently stayed at the Casa Soleada for 5 nights with our entire family- 3 married couples and 4 younger children. Since there were 3 bedrooms, as well as a pack n' play, pull-out couch, and rollaway bed, we fit perfectly. Sue and Mac had the house stocked with everything we needed and went over and above by having toiletries and so much more there for our use. The kitchen was well-stocked too. The house was very clean and well maintained which was important to us! The house is set on large private piece of land which some of family really enjoyed for early morning walks. The living room was spacious and homey too which was nice to be able to relax together in. The house felt like home for the 5 nights we were there and we were very impressed with everything! They also had a large binder full of the nearby attractions, hiking, restaurants and such which was very helpful for us as we did a lot of sightseeing! Sue and Mac, you really made our stay there great! We would recommend it to anyone! Thank you!

I'm glad you felt at home during your stay. And even more so, I'm so happy for you that your whole family could take a vacation together. It's not easy to pull that off in today's world where everyone leads such busy lives and has different, individual schedules.

We could not have picked a better location or situation for a winter getaway in Tucson. This house was just the right size and was the perfect layout for our family of four with one teenager and one tween. Sue and Mac have done a great job renovating the house and everything is clean and new. The kitchen is spacious and modern, the beds are comfortable, and the décor adds a western character to the whole place. If you are short on ideas for things to do while in Tucson, Sue has put together a large book of information with brochures, maps, menus, and more. The house is full of books on hiking, wildlife, flora, and local history. In addition, having Sue nearby is like having access to your own personal concierge. She really strives to make sure everyone enjoys their stay and is full of ideas and insider information about local events. I can't say enough about how considerate and thoughtful she was during our stay, right down to the fresh batch of cookies she brought for us to enjoy on our trip home. She has fully stocked the house with everything you might need while traveling: shampoo, soap, sunscreen, hairdryer, nail care kit, laundry detergent, dish washer soap, firewood and much more. Rumor has it that she may even have added a DVD of the movie "Tombstone" since our visit. The views from the house are amazing. The Santa Catalinas rise in the distance over the large Saguaros in the backyard. The Arizona room on the back of the house is a nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee (served up in a John Wayne mug) in the morning. There is a nice little nature trail that winds around the property replete with small signs labeling various cacti and other plants. The property offers privacy and solitude on an 8.5 acre plot, yet it is within walking distance of a Safeway and a good Mexican restaurant. There is a bit of traffic noise from the Catalina Highway during the day if you are outside, but the house is brick and well-insulated, so you can not hear it when you are inside. If you are the outdoorsy type, there are some world class experiences to be had nearby. Sabino Canyon is about 15 minutes away. The eastern unit of Saguaro National Park is about the same. And if you are a cyclist, you can hop on your road bike right at the end of the driveway and ride all the way to the top of Mt. Lemmon. I didn't have my bike with me, but really wish I did! Everyone in our family agreed that we made the right choice by staying at the Casa Soleada.

Yep...we now have the DVD "Tombstone." We are very happy you & your family chose to stay at The Casa Soleada. Your kids are great. I'm so glad all of you had such a great time in Tucson & the surrounding areas. Thanks again for posting such a detailed & positive review :)

We rented Casa Soleada for one week for our March Break holiday. Coming from a very cold Canadian winter, we were anxious to get somewhere warm and sunny and were looking forward to a relaxing holiday with our two boys. Casa Soleada was an excellent choice in every way. The location was very convenient to all the Tucson activities we had planned. Although Casa Soleada is in a fairly busy area you feel like you are miles away because the house sits on a large acreage with many mature cacti and a beautiful view of the mountains. Sue met us at the Casa when we arrived and went through the house with us to show us everything we needed to know and to make sure everything was good to go. My youngest son's first comment was "This house is cleaner than our house!" and it absolutely was. Sue is a VERY organized person and she has put a great deal of thought and planning into her holiday rental. She has thought of every little detail and provided many small and thoughtful extras such as a variety of toiletries to ensure her guests have a comfortable stay. The house is tastefully decorated with homey touches, but not cluttered. On our last night at the Casa, Sue and Mac stopped in with gifts for our boys and freshly baked cookies. Sue asked for feedback about our stay and was extremely receptive to the few minor suggestions I offered. Sue has been amazing to deal with from the very beginning, and I would absolutely recommend Casa Soleada without hesitation.

And I am glad your family enjoyed Tucson and the Casa Soleada and appreciated all of the little extras. I tried to stock it with everything I would want/need if I were staying there on vacation. I'm glad we have a friend in Canada now...and Mac & I will take you up on the offer to contact you when we do our trip there. Hopefully it will be next year when it is very hot here and we're ready to get away to your cooler corner of the world!

I found that during our stay there wasn't anything that I wanted that wasn't provided. I liked the views from the windows and the path out back with the labeled plants. I also like the Arizona themed decorations throughout the house. My dad said that you were going to add the movie Tombstone to the house. I think that that is a good idea; we probably would have watched it if it was here. I enjoyed the proximity to various national parks such as Saguaro and Tumacacori. I also enjoyed the Gas Light Theatre and the Wildcats basketball game here in Tucson.

Things I like about Tucson: The gaslight theater, Rancho Rustico restaurant, Sonoran desert museum. Things I like about the house: The path in the backyard, The picture cubes, The artwork on the walls, The cactus ID signs, The sombrero. I think this house had everything we needed and more.

Owner response: Thank you for your feedback! I think it is helpful for other families to know what their kids would like about Tucson, and The Casa Soleada, if they choose to stay there. Very well-written for an 11 y old! Thanks again :)

My daughter and I stayed here with my parents. My daughter wanted to go experience the night life of Tuscon but when she saw the property she decided that being here and walking the grounds was much better. Her first time to the Southwest! We enjoy cooking and this was by far the best supplied kitchen we have ever had. Lovely time of year to visit especially if you are from snow country!

Owner response: Thanks for being our guests. I'm glad you got to "thaw out" in our warm winter weather. The snow country you're from is really getting slammed this year...It's unbelievably relentless. I'm glad you got to visit with your parents AND have your daughter come along. My husband and I know it is hard to get the kids to do things with you in their early to mid-twenties. They are always busy. We all lead such busy lives. We're happy you got to relax a bit and spend time together as a family. "Together is the best place to be."

My husband, daughter and I recently stayed at the Casa for a few days. It was a wonderful visit. The home is wonderfully well appointed, my husband said, "One of the best appointed we had ever rented!". The owner was very helpful and welcoming. Finally, the property itself made us feel we were alone in the desert though a highway was very close. We had a covy of quail and a Harris Hawk visit during breakfast one morning. It doesn't get better than that. We would come back again and again.

Owner response: I am so glad you got to see our white-tailed hawk! He loves to sit on the telephone pole on the other side of the carport. I've heard him make the weirdest sounds, too. It's funny to me...I wish I knew what he was saying! I have tried & tried to get a picture of him with my iPhone, but it just doesn't do him justice...it's always blurry when I try to zoom in. I need a better camera. I'm glad you got to see the quail, too. I just love our unique desert wildlife. And the Casa Soleada really shows it off.

The house is super cozy! It reminded me of my grandmother's house, that being warm and welcoming. I greatly enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again. The house is very quiet even though its close to a small hwy, I had no problems falling asleep. The fire pit is great and with Tucson's warm nights it easy to spend a lot of time around it. The trail that runs through out the back of the property is great for a morning stroll. Sue was awesome and very inviting as always. Staying at The Casa Soleada was a pleasure!

Owner response: Thanks fellow Tucsonian! I hope you will be able to stay again when you have friends coming into town. Are you sure it’s not like Grandma’s because it doesn’t have an Xbox or Wii? (wink) LOL. I know you twenty-somethings would like that, but the jury is still out. I’ve asked my guests with children & so far they have preferred not having one, but if I get feedback it is wanted, I’ll get one. I’m SO GLAD you mentioned about the “highway”! I’ve had people ask me about that. Usually they don’t realize Catalina Hwy is the size of another city’s main road. In fact several years ago the county took 50 ft from properties on both sides, but never widened it. It’s the highway to one place…the top of Mt Lemmon. And it only starts at Tanque Verde Rd, practically in front of The Casa Soleada. The bedrooms have noise-reducing windows & noise/light-reducing curtains, just as double protection, and obviously it is not an issue. The house has a long driveway, lots of trees and cacti and sits far enough back from the road for complete privacy.

Sue and Mac were wonderful, checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying our stay. The home was perfectly situated for us, in a peaceful spot with beautiful land surrounding it, yet close enough to downtown to be convenient. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. About the owner: The owners, Mac & Sue, live on the adjacent property to the 8.5-acres of 'The Casa Soleada'…on a 3-acre property called 'The Summer Ranch'. They love the privacy the large acreage properties provide. They enjoy the warm, sunny, mild winters in Tucson and appreciate the natural desert vegetation and wildlife of the Sonoran Desert, a beautiful and diverse living desert. They are thankful for their everyday views of the Catalina Mountains, Thimble Peak & Mt. Lemmon. Mac & Sue enthusiastically rent out the casita on their property (#444008) and the casa next door to them (#505439) to Tucson vacationers at an extremely reasonable and competitive rate, wanting to share what they believe is the best area of Tucson to visit and definitely the most convenient Northeast Tucson location of all!

The Unique Benefits at this House:
