The cabana is amazing! Spacious and very clean. Is even nicer than it looks in the gallery! With lots of nice touches, local fruit and snacks, snorkelling gear and beach towels etc. The beach is very close down a private access path. The windward location is blissfully balmy! The owners are really lovely and helpful with local info or will leave you to your own devices if you prefer. We would definitely stay again when back in Oahu.

Dear Julie, We wanted to thank you for providing a cozy, comfortable, and truly amazing place on earth to spend our time on Oahu. Our stay was, unfortunately, too short, but we honestly loved every minute of it! The cabana was more than what we expected - thank you for the basket of goodies, and all the amenities that make it so special and comfortable. Your decorating was inspirational to me! Sorry we never had the chance to visit with you after the first evening, but we seemed to be on the go all the time. We did rent a kayak near the canal and paddled out to the island on Sunday when it was calm and beautiful; also had a nice dinner at Buzz's that evening. We spent most of Monday at Pearl Harbor, which we are so glad we did as it was a very moving experience. We had intended to snorkel at Hanauma Bay that day also, but ran short of time, so we just drove there and "observed." We'll catch that next time! Tuesday was spent driving north which was amazing scenery! It was quite relaxing to stop along the way at the beaches, grabbing some yummy shrimp scampi, shopping, etc. Thank you for all your helpful recommendations! We would love to visit again some day...your cabana will forever stay in our minds! Dan & Peggy, Minnesota

It was the most perfect place to stay during our vacation. Anything one could possibly want is located here -- beach chairs, coolers, snorkel, suntan lotion, boogie boards, movies, music, wine glasses, etc. And it is immaculate -- this was actually the first place I've ever stayed in outside of my own home where I trusted that everything was clean. I really appreciated the no-pets policy as I'm allergic to cats. We had such a wonderful and comfortable stay. Location was great. Just a few steps from beautiful Kailua beach and five minutes away from Kailua town where one can find restaurants, drug stores and supermarkets. I especially liked Uahi Island Grill for casual fare. Lanikai Juice (also located in Kailua) was great for acai bowls, juices, smoothies and my dose of wheatgrass shots. Don't miss Agnes Portuguese Bakery for the best malasadas -- I thought it was even better than the famous Leonard's. Also a 15 minute drive from He'eia Pier General Store and Deli for gourmet plate lunches headed by the former sous chef of Mavro. Kailua is also less than a half an hour from Honolulu if you're up for some action. And if you want to experience the most beautiful beach in Oahu, Lanikai Beach is only a 5 minute drive away. Julie and Gerry are incredibly sweet and helpful and embody the aloha spirit. I actually ran into President Obama on the Lanikai Pillbox hike that was recommended by Julie! I will forever remember my experience there and hope to be back soon.

The best decision we made concerning our trip to Hawaii was to stay in Julie's cabana. So quiet and peaceful! From waking up to the birds singing, to watching the sunset on Kailua beach, this was the perfect setting for our anniversary trip. The cabana was tastefully decorated, the welcome basket was delicious, and the outdoor shower was.....oh yeah! All in all, our stay here was everything we could have hoped for. Thanks, Julie (and Cosmo and Lucy!) for your wonderful hospitality.

We stayed here three nights and we had a fabulous stay. It is very private, parking space for a car and steps to the beach. This cabana is immaculate and comes with chairs, mats, towels, beach bag, ice chest and mask and snorkel for use during your stay. This rental also has a small fridge, toaster and coffee maker. We enjoyed the fruit and goodies in the welcome basket. We've traveled all over the world and anyone would be thrilled to stay here!

We just returned home from 5 fantastic days in Julie and Gerry's wonderful beach cabana. They were were outstanding hosts in every way and even arranged perfect weather for our stay! The Cabana was beautifully decorated, spotless and had every amenity we could possibly need. The gift basket with all the fruits, granola, candy etc was wonderful. Absolutely loved the outdoor shower and being just steps from Kailua beach. The Bunker Hill hike that Julie recommended was awesome. We highly recommend the Cabana and very much hope to stay there again soon. In fact I would stay at any property that Julie manages as her attention to detail is incredible. Mahalo Julie and Gerry.

My wife and I found Julie's cabana on Homeaway and stayed there for three days at the end of October 2010. Julie promptly replied to our inquiry and we booked the cabana shortly thereafter. Her email detailed how to get to the cabana and included pictures of what to look for and where to park. Julie greeted us shortly after we arrived and gave us a map and tips about where to shop and eat. We took a couple of her suggestions to heart when we dined and were very pleased with those recommendations. The cabana is right off of Kalaheo Ave about halfway down the block towards the beach. It is a short walk past a couple of properties to get to the beach using a private path. We accessed the beach at least a couple of times a day every day we were there. Kailua Beach is a beautiful beach, even by Hawaii standards, and walking it or just hanging out on it is a real treat. I took my kitesurfing gear and launched on the beach right next to the cabana. It's not an ideal launch, being at a point on the beach where the wind is almost straight onshore, but it beat lugging the gear down to the park. The cabana itself is as cute as is can be. It is exceptionally clean and tidy and Julie has a real knack for decorating. The shower is outdoor only, but we have outdoor showers at home, so no worries there. There is a coffee maker and small refrigerator and microwave but not a complete kitchen. Julie had placed a welcome basket out for us. If there is any complaint I could muster about the cabana it was that there is no closet for hanging clothes and if you have a lot of luggage, it can be a bit cramped. But trust me, I have to scrounge to come up with even this issue, and this was only because I had some kitesurfing gear to deal with. It was easy enough to store this stuff outside. This cabana was perfect for us and we would love to come back if its just the two of us visiting Oahu again. I would definitely stay here again, or at any other property that Julie has anything to do with. She is a great host and has a great little piece of paradise at this location!

I apoligize for taking so long to write this review. My husband and I stayed in this lovey cabana for a week in August 2010. It was the perfect place for us and we have rented larger homes in the past and found them to be a waste of money. This place is cute, clean and the shower is amazing ! I had no trouble adapting to showering outdoors (we miss it so much) ! The beach was not overly populated which was really nice since we got married while staying. Gerry and Julie are the perfect hosts, very helpful and kind and allow you the privacy you enjoy. I would recommend this to anyone looking to stay in Kailua near the beach ! Thank you Gerry and Julie you're etched in our memories forever ! We hope to see you both again someday. Kim & Jeff

The property is exactly as described. The cabana is petite, but spotless and very functional. A very short walk to a quiet, clean beach. It was very private, quiet, and close to nice restaurants in Kailua, but far enough away from everything to feel very relaxing. I rented a bike in Kailua and rode almost every day. We really enjoyed our stay.

We spent five nights in Julie's lovely cabana. Everything was just a described in the listing. The attention to detail in the cabana was remarkable. It was so clean and tastefully decorated. The outside area of the cabana was just as pleasant as the inside - from the marvelous outdoor shower to the charming sitting areas, all in a very private, tropical setting. Julie was helpful with recommendations and was always eager to answer our questions. Kailua beach is one of the most beautiful beaches. We enjoyed walking along the beach any and all times of the day from sunrise to sunset. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. Close to everything - restaurants, kayaking, snorkeling, shave ice, hiking, and more. Our stay in the cabana was delightful. Thanks for sharing your property with us.

Just looking at the pictures takes me back to Hawaii all over again! We loved this beach home!! It was very neat and cozy. Everything was so nice and the walk to the beach was super short. We went for a stroll every morning along Kailua beach. The outdoor shower was also wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone. Perfect location, perfect accommodations. Kailua is so much more peaceful and more pretty than Waikiki.

Julie's cabana was a wonderful peaceful oasis. Right off the beach ( which is an incredible beach!) and a few minutes to Kailua town. It is really beautifully appointed, uber clean and has great features. We loved the outdoor shower and lanai! We made good use of the beach stuff provided . We used many of her recommendations and had fabulous food and experiences. We did all kinds of great things form this location, beach, scuba diving ( Aarons dive shop in town) , snorkelling, kayak to the Moks, paddle boarding. Endless list of outdoor things to do. Kailua was great- had good food, lots to do and not developed. Highly recommend- A really great spot. We'll go back for sure :) Mahalo Julie

Julie's cabana is delightful! The studio is beautifully decorated, well kept and as close to idyllic Kailua beach as you can get. I spent a few happy days jogging along the spotless untouristy beach and swimming out to one of the little islands offshore before returning to the cabana for a pot of Kona coffee and a refreshing outdoor shower, and dining out at some fabulous local restaurants.... this place makes you feel more like a local than a tourist and by the time I left I wished I was one! The studio is light, airy and homely with fluffy towels, robes, gourmet goodies, and everything for the beach you could possibly require. After exploring the whole island and many other properties I believe I found the perfect place to stay for a really relaxing vacation in paradise.

The cabana provides the perfect getaway for any couple. This was our second stay. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood steps from the finest beach in the islands. Kailua town has all the amenities one could ask for without the feel of the big city. Julie is a most gracious hostess and takes a true interest in caring for her guests. Her recommendations for dining and shopping come from personal experience. The cabana is kept in excellent condition. The intimate and private outdoor shower was a true highlight of our stay.

We spent our last 3 nights of our week long stay on the Hawaiian islands at this darling Cabana right by Kailua beach. The photos of the place were exactly what we saw... very charming and private. Loved the lush landscaping and the outdoor shower was heavenly! Even the smell of the towels was amazing. To wake up every morning and lay out on the beach which was steps away was our favorite part! We wished we could have stayed longer! You would be silly to pass up staying here! Enjoy!! Mahalo Thanks again Julie & Jerry!

We spent 5 days in this cute beach house after a two-weeks-tour through California, Arizona and Nevada. It was the perfect place to relax. The whole interior is special: romantic, natural and very personal. We also liked the outdoor shower, the boogie bords, the beach bag and the welcome basket full of gifts. Listening to the birds singing while sitting outside and having dinner was so relaxing. The beach is almost behind the house and it is not far away from many other interesting outlooks and sights - even Honolulu can easily be reached by car. We can fully recommend this beach house and thank Julie once again for her hospitality and the great insider tips she had for us.

Iam so sorry it took so long to do this!! My husband and I spent 12 wonderful days in the cabana. We were greated with a friendly welcome from Gerry and gift basket from Julie. We arrived late that first night, after a long day of sight seeing, and were so blessed to come in to the cozy and comfortable cabana. Julie and Gerry had prepared a helpful binder with places to go, eat, maps, etc. Everything a nubie tourist could need. Gerry even helped us with some driving tips and a language lesson. What a blessing it was to not to have to pack beach supplies (leaves much more suitcase room for all our purchases). The beach was lovely and only a few hundred metres away! Kailua was an excellent place to come back to as it is so much more quiet that all the touristy places out there. If you needed to purchase something, it was no more than 10 min away. I have to admit, I thought all the talk about the outdoor shower was .... weird. Infact, it was the big joke with us and our friends before we left (and actually the first thing we were asked about when we got off the plane). The first time out was a bit nerve wracking (checking to make sure no one could see me in my birthday suit!) But it was, indeed, exillerating. Great way to start your day, but even better way to end it. You have to experience it to believe it. Every couple of days, we would come back to find the cabana had magically been cleaned. We didn't really get much of a chance to talk to Julie and Gerry (we were gone alot!), but the times we did, we found them to be extremely pleasant and very helpful. True Hawaiian spirit. If you're looking for a romantic get away or a place to stay out of the hubub of tourists, I would highly recomend you stay here. Being able to escape back here, at the end of a crazy, hot day, was a true blessing. Don't hesitate to stay here.
Owner response:Aloha Cindy and Weldon, It was our pleasure having you in our little slice of paradise and we hope you will come back again and again! Mahalo, Julie and Gerry

Just returned from our stay at the cabana, what a place! I always hang out at Kailua Beach when I visit Oahu 2 or 3X each year, to stay this close was fantastic! The cabana is very well setup, nicely appointed, clean, comfortable, etc... Better than expected despite all of the great reviews we read first. Hosts were very friendly and helpful, yet provided plenty of privacy as well. Highly recommend this place to all looking for a place to stay in Kailua/Oahu!

We stayed in the Beachside Cabana shortly before Christmas, 2008, and although stormy weather and questionable overflow into the water prevented a swim the whole four days we were there, we had a wonderfully sweet time. Simply walking the beautiful, residential beach (no hotels at Kailua) the mile to Kalapawai Market each morning for great coffee and goodies became an enjoyable tradition for us. Although the cottage is small (might suggest a few more hangers, since there's no closet), it is cozy, clean, nicely appointed, and has everything a couple needs for a quiet, relaxing vacation. The fabulous outdoor shower in the lovely private garden alone is worth coming back for again and again...!! Jerry and Julie could not have been nicer and were as available as necessary without intruding on our privacy....Mahalo to them..!!

Thank you so much, Dick and Carol for your review. To clarify your "beachside" comment- In Kailua, beachside is a neighborhood and it means that you do not have to cross any street to get to the beach. We are located oceanside of the road that parallels the beach. Again, mahalo for staying with us and we look forward to seeing you again! Julie

The Beachside Cabana was just perfect for our week on Oahu. Immaculately clean and tastefully furnished, this little slice of paradise had everything we needed. We especially appreciated the lovely linens, the welcome basket of goodies, the essential beach bag, and the beach chairs, towels, mats, and boogie boards. Julie has truly thought of everything to make her guests feel comfortable, welcome, and well-equipped. The outdoor areas were beautifully landscaped and the outdoor shower was wonderful. The cabana is not truly "beachside", as there are two other houses between it and the beach, and you can't actually see the ocean due to the privacy fence. But it's a very short walk to the beach - I counted exactly 150 steps down the private lane -and the beach itself was heavenly. The cabana is an easy 30-minute drive from the airport, and Julie supplied excellent directions when we made our reservation. It's also just a 5-minute drive to the center of Kailua, where we could park the car once and walk to a nice variety of excellent restaurants and shops, many of which were recommended in the cabana's guest information book. Julie & Jerry were perfect hosts, very friendly and accommodating, but also giving us all the privacy we wanted. Their lovely house and yard are right next to the cabana, separated by a privacy fence and landscaping. We had a few questions while we were there and they were totally accessible and helpful. We did a lot of research before choosing this property and were completely satisfied. There are other rentals available for around this price or less, but we can't imagine a nicer place or a better value. We loved staying at the cabana and hope we can return again in 2009!

"This little beachside cabana may be small, but it it packed with features that make it oh-so-special. Everything about it exudes quality, comfort, and the spirit of aloha: the perfect location in an upscale neighborhood just steps away from the north end of beautiful Kailua beach (which is far less crowded than the southern end near the park); Julie's welcoming gift basket filled with a delightful array of gourmet goodies; the beautifully manicured gardens and landscaping; the great array of beach gear and towels; the designer flooring, stone countertops and ceramic tile; the fluffy towels, crisp linens, and artisan soaps; the tasteful tropical decor inside and out; and what a treat to experience the wonderful outdoor shower! It's so private but natural--like being washed and refreshed by a warm tropical rain or waterfall. We loved this place! Thank you Julie and Gerry for offering such warm hospitality and special accommodations. Five stars!"

The cabana was the perfect home away from home. We were in HI for our son's wedding so we didn't have that much time to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the beach and the cabana - but when we did, we LOVED it. I actually had people stopping me on the beach to enquire where we were staying and if it was nice, since they were much further away from the beach. Everything about our stay was A++++. We loved the goodie basket, and the morning outdoor shower has me thinking I might need one back at home. All the beach stuff was fantastic - especially for two very pale mainlanders. Would highly recommend! We will hopefully be back!

We stayed in the Cabana for 7 nights. Thoroughly enjoyed the uncrowded beach and all the beach "toys" (chairs, mats, coolers, et c.) available at the Cabana. Loved meeting "Cosmo the Wonder Dog" and Lucy the kitty. Also loved outdoor shower surrounded by palms, impatients and orchids; scrumptious gift basket; and comfy Hawaiian robes. Space was a bit smaller than anticipated with limited space for hanging clothes. Would highly recommend for those seeking privacy and relaxation!

The very nearby beach was the biggest draw for us and we weren't disappointed with any aspect of our accommodations. From the welcome basket, the kona coffee, and the luxurious towels to the outdoor shower, everything was well appointed. The attention to detail makes this cabana a five star rental. We really enjoyed the warm shower and the private lanai and made good use of the amenities available: small cooler, beach chairs and boogie boards and the refrigerator. Yes, the outdoor shower, the guest basket, the tropical garden, the coffee...all were just as had been promised. But what really made the trip for us was the incredible hospitality and generosity of Julie. All these things are simply a product of her caring about the experience her guests have. Aloha, Julie and Gerry: This may be short and maybe not. Jan and I had such a wonderful five days enjoying "the cabana" and your hospitality. We started coming to the "islands" in 1966 and after about three visits to Oahu (read Honolulu) we decided that was enough and Maui became our destination. After thirty years of that and the way it developed, we had an opportunity to visit Kailua and your name was given us by a mutual friend. What a great stroke of luck! Your "cabana" with its furnishings, amenities, Cosmo and "black cat", truly made us feel we were back in the good old days. And as you say, "you are just 100 steps" from one of the nicest beaches there is. Three miles of sandy beach, no crowds, and the surf to put one to sleep! Sounds like paradise to me. Once again, Mahalo and thanks so much for sharing this with us. Aloha, 'til next time. Take good care of each other and Peace. Jack and Jan Callahan Yuba City CA 95993

We stayed at Julie's Cabana for 2 nights before our Wedding. It was better than we ever imagined! The pictures do not do it justice! The cottage is SO cute, SO clean and SO comfortable - we felt like we were staying at a friend's place. (But because it's separate from the house, it felt very private at the same time.) The welcome basket was perfect and even though we didn't get to enjoy the beach because of the rains, we thoroughly enjoyed the OUTDOOR shower! We would definitely try to stay here again. My (now) fiance and I stayed at the beach cabana for four nights in September. We loved the cabana. Beach access is a very short walk down a path in between some houses. Julie really thought of everything you need - including beach toys, towels, maps, guide books, a cooler, drying rack. The garden area and decor inside the cabana is very calming - like a spa. There's no a/c, but you don't need it with the fan and constant ocean breeze. Location is good for getting into town and the highway to explore the rest of Oahu. Kailua beach is amazing. White sand, fun waves for boogie boarding, and NO crowds! I would recommend the beach cabana to my friends. You are welcome to ask the owner for my email or phone number if you have questions.

Aloha Julie, We just wanted to thank you once again for a wonderful stay at your cottage. We had a great time. Everything about our stay there exceeded our expectations. The outdoor shower was the best. We would love to stay at your place again when we make it back to Hawaii Mahalo Troy & Sandi I will be in touch if I know anyone going out to your beautiful island and is looking for a place to stay.

Julie, Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage. We had a wonderful time. The outdoor shower was by far the best part of our vacation:). Don't be surprised if we come back sometime soon! Aloha, Karinn & Bryce

The guest cottage is charming, cozy, tastefully decorated and abounding with thoughtful touches. It is a perfect refuge on a wondrous island, and Kailua beach is stunning. The cabana and its owners are most warm and welcoming. The perfect getaway!
