All the other reviewers were right - Burgi, her farm, and her chalet are the right choice for a place to stay near Salzburg. The only advice we would give is - get a rental car. We were there in December with lots of rain and it would have been miserable to be walking back and forth to the train station in the mud. We had at first worried that taking a car into Salzburg would be a hassle but Burgi had all the tips we needed to make it a stress-free event. The chalet was clean and well-maintained with a continual supply of firewood to keep us toasty. As others mention, the food delivered for breakfast (for a small fee) was wonderful - I am going through bacon withdrawal as I write this! The beds were comfortable, good supplies in the kitchen, good water pressure and hot water. The only items we would improve on (which are not really possible) would be to not have the bathroom right by the entrance (we spent time cleaning up muddy boot prints to keep us from having mud on our socks when we went into the bathroom) and having a washer/dryer in the chalet (they were in a building nearby). But overall, we would definitely return and are very thankful that Burgi opened her farm to us.

This is the loveliest place to stay. The cottages are beautiful and finished to an extremely high standard, with everything you could possibly need or want Even the fridge was stocked with fresh homemade nibbles so you didn't have to race out straight away and buy anything. Anything you wanted for breakfast was delivered to your door fresh first thing in the morning. Burgi our host was fantastic, nothing is too much trouble for her and her family. Austrian hospitality is alive and well here, you don't get this in hotels. Nothing has been overlooked with regard to guests comfort.

We just returned from a wonderful time at these cabins!! The cabins are charming and have all the comforts of home. Not too big, not too small, these cabins are perfect for our family of 5. We arrived to a cozy fire in the fireplace and fresh, organic eggs, meats and juice for breakfast the next morning. Burgi is a wonderful hostess and was eager to make sure all our needs were met. The children enjoyed seeing and petting the animals immensely - feeding the goats was their favorite thing. The cabins are close to Salzburg (10 or so minutes), and Berchtesgaden (Eagle's Nest, Salt Mines, etc., 30 mins by car). The children are already asking when we can return.

Paradise on earth. A very beautiful place, shiny, super nice hospitality. Located in a beautiful area and just a few minutes from Salzburg. We will look for it on our next trip to Tirol and recommend it to our friends and family.

When I first saw the pictures of this place, I fell in love. I was afraid it wouldn’t live up to my expectations, but it surpassed them by far! Our whole family loved staying on the farm. We made friends with the cats and goats, and checked out the chickens, ducks, bunnies, pigs, and cows. After a day of sightseeing it was so nice to come home to our own cabin. We would spend the evening walking around the farm, saying hello to the animals, and admiring the beautiful garden. If you can, stay over a weekend, so you can experience their wonderful restaurant. On Sat and Sun evening, we just walked down the small path to the cozy restaurant and sat down on one of the outdoor tables for dinner. The food was homemade, from the farm, inexpensive, and delicious! We had fun sampling the different ciders and beers. Each evening, Burgi would ask us what we needed for breakfast, and fresh eggs, bread, milk, butter, cheese, or bacon would appear on our door. Burgi charges very little for these organic ingredients. Burgi also makes wonderful jam. I bought some to take home. The cabin itself had everything we needed. We easily cooked a nice breakfast each morning before we headed out for the day. Burgi answered all our travel questions. From Hallwang we visited Hallstatt, Neuschwanstein, Linderhof Palace, and of course Salzburg. The Neuschwanstein day was long, but it was worth it to be able to stay at one place for several days. From our whole trip to Europe, Hallwang is the one place we want to return. The area was beautiful, and it was just so relaxing on the farm. I can’t say enough about Burgi. She made our stay! In terms of amenities, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the shower was nice and hot. We loved the table in the kitchen with the built in bench for breakfast. There is also a table outside the front door if you prefer to eat outdoors. We enjoyed a cup of tea on the outdoor table. Burgi even provides tea! The Wifi worked really well, and we were able to do laundry. There is both a washer and dryer! The beds were very comfortable, and we enjoyed the view from the balcony. Stay with Burgi on the farm. She’ll make your vacation!

We spent Easter week at Burgi's amazing chalet and it was superb. We had no car but it was an easy 10 minute train ride to Hallwang station from Salzburg (one train per hour) and then a leisurely 10 minute stroll through the woods to reach the chalet. Burgi's welcome was exceptionally warm and friendly and she delivered fresh eggs, milk, bacon and cheese to our door every morning. The apple juice, schnapps and cider are also highly recommended! The children (aged 9, 12 and 15) loved the farm and we could visit the animals whenever we wished. The chalet was warm, comfortable, clean and very well equipped. The village is in walking diatnce too, with a restaurant and beautiful church. We will definitely be back.

We just spent our Thanksgiving vacation at this beautiful cottage in Austria and couldn't have enjoyed it more! Everything from the time we arrived to the time we left was just perfect! Frau Burgi was the perfect hostess and thought of everything we possibly could have needed and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. A fire in the fireplace was there to greet us, as was a sample of some of the organic foods they create at their farm. Every morning we had fresh eggs, bacon, juice, bread, and jam that we purchased from her that was delivered to the cottage and that was very reasonably priced..........and so amazingly delicious!! One of the nights they were hosting a party at the Cider tavern on the property and she graciously offered to make extra for our supper that night that she brought to the cottage for our family to have a delicious homecooked meal on our last evening there. So for less than what it would have cost at a restaurant, after a long day of sightseeing, we could get in our comfy clothes and enjoy a family dinner in beautiful surroundings with a cozy fire in a beautiful cottage. We loved visiting the barn and feeding the goats, donkeys, pigs, and seeing up close the hard work that goes into running an organic farm. One of my favorite highlights was seeing a baby calf born....SO wonderful and something I will never forget!!:-) We thoroughly enjoyed our time as a family and at the end realized that even with our sightseeing day trips, the favorite memories were all made on the farm......and the majority of pictures we took were there as well. We are already making plans to return. Frau Burgi definitely made this a vacation to remember. She was so gracious, kind, helpful in every way!! Can't wait to return!!

We had a lovely time in Hallwang. The chalet was beautifully appointed, clean, warm and very much home from home and with everything we needed. The setting on the farm is glorious and you really feel part of the farm experience. Burgi and her family were lovely, welcoming and helpful but not intrusive and were always willing to give advice and tips to make the most of our holiday. We loved the farm and the animals, we ate there too and the food was just superb. The setting is splendid, beautiful, peaceful but close enough to the train station to make an easy trip into the city and with the motorway easily accessible longer day trips were easy too. All in all a great stay and we were lucky enough to have the most wonderful weather too. A truly lovely Alpine experience and a memorable holiday we would definitely recommend staying here.

On our return from 6 weeks in Europe, I asked my children what places they would recommend to their friends. My daughter immediately replied "The farm in Austria". Our hosts were welcoming, the accommodation was very comfortable and the food they offered was excellent and reasonably priced. Our children enjoyed being able to pat all the animals and collect the eggs each day. Overall a wonderful choice and only a short drive out of the centre of Salzburg. 5 stars!

My family and i just came back from a 4 night stay over at this property. Our experience was AMAZING!!! Don´t think twice about staying here. The surroundings are beautiful and Salzburg is easy reachable by train (12-15 min walk). Best of all it´s Burgi (the landlord), she´s so kind and helpfull, we didn´t have a car and she took us to the supermarket. Also you can buy products from her organic farm like milk, bread and eggs and each morning you´ll have your order right at your door. If you´re lucky enough to be there on a weekend, don´t miss dining at Burgi´s restaurant for the best homestyle meal. I´v stayed at several properties over different countries, but this experience was unique!!!

This place is absolutely wonderful. We arrived on a Sunday and were fortunate to be able to dine at Burgi and Hans's restaurant where the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. As for the property itself, it was amazing. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home and our two young daughters loved the farm and the activities Burgi offered for them. The surrounding areas are beautiful and it's only 15 minutes into central Salzburg. We were travelling for five weeks, staying in hotels, before reaching this property and it was a fantastic feeling to be able to relax and enjoy what this property has to offer. Absolutely recommend this place to anyone, especially those with small children. They'll love it.

We never expected to be treated like a star from Burgi and her family but they rolled out the red carpet the minute we arrived. Everything was perfect - the chalet was very clean, well-maintained, well-stocked and definitely value for money. We made a few additional requests and Burgi was always on hand to help out and she even went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable. And we loved the fresh bread and apple juice, they were really delicious. All we can say is that our stay in June was wonderful - our two children loved the place and truly enjoyed walking and playing around the farm and they were enchanted by the animals. This is a place that I would highly recommend to anyone who is visiting Salzburg. The fresh air around the farm and the walk through the little forest is quite an adventure that our kids loved. They said this was the best Europe holiday that they've ever had! Thank you, Burgi and we hope we can visit you again one day.

We arrived on a rather wet evening to be greeted by a lovely log fire and food in the fridge provided by Burgi that really made us feel at home. The farm was a fantastic base for us and our 3 and 5 year old boys, they just loved the animals and enjoyed feeding the ducks in the pond just outside our chalet. Burgi and family could not have been more welcoming and the boys were even able to go on tractor rides around the farm. We were able to buy fresh milk, bread and other produce each day which was delicious. There is so much to do and see in this beautiful area of Austria. It really was a fabulous holiday!

We would absolutely recommend this property, especially for families with children. The chalet was wonderful - clean, homey, and everything we needed, including books and games for kids. The setting is rural, but is close to amenities, and only a short drive away from Salzburg. Especially great was the ability to walk through the countryside to Hallwang for dinner. And we cannot say enough about how outstanding the farm was. We especially enjoyed collecting our own eggs and having our wonderful host Burgi deliver milk practically straight from the cows! Our only regret is that we wish we could have stayed longer, but we are already talking about coming back next year!

My family and I spent a weekend on the farm. The chalet was spacious and comfortable, Burgi had some food in the refrigerator and a fire going when we arrived - talk about feeling at home right away! The next morning my four year old could not wait to wake up and see the animals. She had the best time with the ducks, donkeys and chickens. We were 15 minutes from old town Salzburg and Burgi gave us very helpful directions. The only downside to the entire weekend is that we could not stay longer. We will definitely be going back!

We stayed here from February 16 - 18, 2010. These 2 Chalet's just outside of Salzburg are WONDERFUL! They are super clean, well organized, and much more roomy and spacious than the pictures do justice or than what you would think until you get there. The Chalet's ceilings are built with huge timber beams and and are beautiful. One of our favorite things to do was to stop by the grocery store on the way back from Salzburg and pick up food to prepare in the well stocked, organized kitchens in the chalet. It was so fun to try to cook the traditional foods they prepare in Austria in our own kitchen at the chalet. Burgi and Hanis, the owners of the family organic farm where these chalets are located, have created a wonderful atmosphere and experience for anyone staying at their property. They delivered fresh eggs, milk and bread to our door in the morning. They gave us a tour of all their wonderful animals in the barn and even set up a curling rink (is it called a rink?) just like they were using at the Olympics, which were going on while we were there. I highly recommend visiting one of the thermal baths they have in a German town not far from the chalet's called Bad Reichenhall. In Bad Reichenhall is a thermal bath complex called Rupertus Therme. Great place to spend a day and relax in the mineral pools. Bottom line: GREAT place, GREAT hosts, GREAT location, GREAT price. Would absolutely stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Hallwang. The house was very well equipped and was spotless. All my children enjoyed the farm especially the youngest. He loved checking for eggs every morning. Burgi kindly left us lots of food and we could buy eggs, bread, jam, juice and milk - all produced on the farm. The free internet access meant my older children could still stay in touch with friends. Hallwang itself is very pretty but is small. We used the local train to get into Salzburg and this was very easy. Burgi and her family made us feel very wecome and we would definitely like to return. We will certainly recommend it to our friends.

The chalet exceeded our expectations - comfortable, roomy, up to date, well-equipped and in an excellent location on an organic farm ten minutes drive from Salzburg. The accommodation would suit families with younger children who would enjoy the farm but I suspect lively teenagers would not enjoy the peace and quiet! We enjoyed looking round the farm and seeing the animals. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Between us - my halting German and her excellent English we communicated well. Our family of four adults stayed in the chalet using it as a base to explore Salzburg - its links to The Sound of Music, and its culture. We loved the city and spent hours in the Altstadt. We also went to Berchtesgarten, the Salzkammergut, up cable cars and on a boat. Because of its rural location, we would recommend visitors have their own transport. Driving around was easy and parking in Salzburg was fine. We found plenty of reasonable places to eat and drink as well as several supermarkets nearby. We also enjoyed the ham, eggs, butter and juice produced on the farm. A fantastic holiday and we would love to go again.
