About this property

Orcas Island, North Shore Reef #238

*** This home is people friendly, and not pet friendly. ***

Looking for Orcas Island beachfront, spectacular views, 4+ bedrooms, 3+ baths, and a location within walking distance of town? Not many vacation homes meet this criteria, but North Shore Reef offers all these attributes and more. This spacious and attractive home is simply the perfect choice for family vacations and couples traveling together.

The property is conveniently located only one mile north of Eastsound Village, offering an easy walk to shops and restaurants via a public pathway. When you open the front door, a startling vista of sky, sea, and mountains will greet you through the large picture windows on the waterside of the home. Straight ahead, there is a view of Sucia Island and, in the distance, the snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Cascade range can be seen rising above neighboring islands. When the tide is high you may see whales and dolphins as they pass by in the deep water channel, and when the tide is low, the sandy offshore reef emerges from the sea to attract a variety of marine life, including birds, eagles, and otters.

The 3200 square foot residence is designed for casual and comfortable living. The entry, living room, and dining room are oriented toward the waterfront as is the terrace, where you will lounge, BBQ , dine alfresco, and bask in glorious sunsets. A partially fenced lawn with fire pit is on the western side of the property. From the bluff, a stairway connects to the pebble beach where the elements of nature can be appreciated at the shoreline.

Indoors, there is plenty of space for the entire group to cook, dine, and enjoy their time together. Meal preparation takes place in a large, well-stocked kitchen that features contemporary appliances, a work island, and a breakfast nook. The dining room offers seating around an expandable table and you will find a bedroom with a king bed just down the hall on the main level. Adjacent to this master bedroom is a bathroom with shower as well as an office/den equipped with a convertible sofa that is suitable for a child or extra guest. For flexibility, there is a door that enables you to enclose these three rooms into a private suite. A laundry room with extra toilet and sink are also located just off the kitchen on the main level.

Upstairs, overlooking the living room, is a loft with a sectional sofa and TV for watching television or movies. The loft separates two upper bedroom wings. One wing contains a bathroom with tub/shower and bedroom large enough to contain both a queen sized bed and twin/trundle. The additional two bedrooms are on the opposite side of the loft and share a third bathroom with tub/shower. The larger bedroom also contains both a queen sized bed plus a twin/trundle; the smaller offers a queen size bed.

Please note that when more than 10 guests are accepted, an additional fee of $50 per guest per night will apply. We’re sorry that the fireplace is not available for guest use.

Amazing view and deck
The house was perfect for nine people. Plenty of room for sleeping and hanging out. The view and backyard deck were amazing. We watched the beautiful sunsets every night.

Insects infestation, terrible windows & amazing views
We paid nearly $11,000 for an 8 day stay and while the views and property were amazing, overall it just felt really run down. At this price point, there’s no reason to leave so many things in poor condition. THE BAD After being out for most of the morning, we returned to find the dining room windows covered in crane flies that appeared to being coming up from the window baseboards along with some ants. After using a vacuum that sounded like an air raid siren for nearly an hour we got rid of most of the bugs but didn’t feel comfortable eating in the dining room with our kids anymore. The manager said they’d try to get a pest control person then said they’d try to provide a credit for the inconvenience and neither ever happened. Toilets, bathtubs, showers and most importantly windows were all in a state of disrepair. By our count, 90% of the windows did not function properly if at all and only about 10% of the windows had signs saying they were broken and shouldn’t be used. Clearly the owner does not care about having working windows as many of the handles were missing, the levers were rusted and we worried that if we did open and close them and they broke, we’d get stuck with a bill. The side yard has a wooden gate that has rotted and won’t stay closed so we had dog poop and deer poop in our yard that our kids ran through unexpectedly. We had the primary bathroom toilet stop flushing and The issue wasn’t communicated clearly to the plumber so when they came out to fix it they didn’t really address the root of the issue and we had to continue using other toilets in the house. Lastly, the wireless internet connection was horrendous. Barely able to stream movies. THE GOOD The layout is great for multiple families to have plenty of space to themselves. The views are amazing, access to your own beach (although really rocky) is a big plus, a nice covered area for outdoor dining made even more use of the great views. Overall, if the home was better maintained we would love to stay here again. If not, there are better places for this much money.

Our favorite on Orcas.
We have stayed in several different accommodations on Orcas, but this was our favorite. The location and the view are just wonderful. We loved playing games in the living room and looking out at the Sound. We also enjoyed the easy .75 mile walk into Eastsound. The home is older, but very clean with updated appliances. Management was quick and responsive to the one small problem (heater needed to be reset) during our stay. The home was overall perfect for my family and we would love to stay there again.
