Bru-Na-Mara - something for everybody!!
Bru-Na-Mara - something for everybody!!

Our family (including Grandparents, teenagers) enjoyed an excellent relaxing week in this beautiful part of Connemara. We chose (Mum chose) Bru-Na-Mara to hopefully satisfy everyones holiday needs; a base from which to explore the mountains and southern parts of Connemara and Arran Islands; shore side house to start the day with a swim; door step coastal walks for enjoying beaches, birds and wildlife. We were extremely fortunate with the weather and spent most of the sunny days on the local shore . The small sandy beach directly in front of the house would have been perfect for small children to enjoy but our big kids enjoyed swimming and jumping off rocks at high tide (perfect spot to enjoy some sea kayaking). Part of the charm of this house was enjoying the changes as the tide and local fishermen came in and out, sunny breakfasts at the picnic table outside the kitchen door and catching the last of the evening sun on the pier. The house and grounds were in great condition with everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Riona and her family were very welcoming, helpful and informative, always to hand if needed but never intrusive. By the way the local shops, doctors and chemist in Carna were excellent, we had need of them several times that week. Although we didn't travel much from the local area we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know this area of Connemara and hope to return in future.Did you find this review helpful? Date of Stay: June 2012 We needed a week of peace and quiet away from the madding crowd and we couldn't have chosen better. Dara is a well-equipped, recently renovated, top-notch spacious house with its own sitting-out area overlooking the pier in a most beautiful part of Ireland. Days were spent doing scenic drives, poking around Clifden and wandering along the many sandy beaches in the area, getting the sea air in our lungs and just generally relaxing. Riona was a gracious hostess who gave us lots of info on where to go and what to do and nothing was too much trouble. We watched the tides come in, and go out. I watched the seabirds on the islands and rocks with my telescope, and chatted with the local cows. A veritable haven of tranquillity. The busiest activity that we saw there was the fishermen preparing their boats...We loved it - Very highly recommended.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Dara is a wonderful cottage in a magnificent area. We immediately fell in love with Connemara and its many dramatic vistas. The location of Dara could not be more perfect with beautiful views out of every window. Riona has done a magnificent job in totally and very tastefully refurbishing the cottage. It was fully equipped and immaculately clean. As others have noted, Riona is a warm and gracious host who spent quite a bit of time advising us where to go and what to see. We were fortunate to be there during their local festival and we could watch the rowing and sailing races from our patio. We really enjoyed day trips to Clifden, Galway, Kylmore Abbey, Inishmore in the Aran Islands, and just poking around this incredibly dramatic area. There is something about Connemara that grabs at your soul and Dara is an excellent base from which to explore the area.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We spent a week in Bru Na Mara AOIBHNEAS , from 7th to 13th of june. It was the first time we came TO Conemara, and we were delighted with the location of the house and kindness and hospitality of the owner Riona. We felt like at home, Riona gave us ideas what to do ect, especialy my wife was pregnant 7 months She is really helpful and friendly. The house is fully equipped and very comfortable. We enjoed long walks on the beaches apart from that we visited Galway, Cliffs of Moher, , Aran Islands , CLIFDEN , Kylmore Abbey, Killary Fjord, Harbour, the Sky Road, Westport, and all along the road, the scenery magnifiient .Nothing else to add great wonderfull unforgetable holiday.Did you find this review helpful? We went to Riona's house for the New Year's holidays with my friends. There were nine of us. And all conditions of our stay was very good. All bedrooms were nice and clean, kitchen well equipped and large, living room was comfortable and cushioned. We especially enjoyed the fireplace. Our proprietor, Riona, was very kind to us. She told us about all interesting places we could visit in Ireland and asked to all our question about different stuff. Main thing about Riona, I think, is that she really cares. People in Ireland are also surprisingly kind and friendly. This country is really worth seeing. Thank you again for all, Riona) That was great!Did you find this review helpful? We stayed at Connemara following an extensive CIE tour of Ireland - and it was exactly what we needed. Not only was Rionna a superb and gracious hostess, Connemara offered us a view of Ireland not found on tours: incredible. The house was immaculate and very well-maintained, as well as having a history. Rionna was always helpful and full of great suggestions as to what the area offered. Can't recommend it enough. The walks around the property offered a view into Ireland's past and present: it was more than we could ask for in order to immerse ourselves in Irish heritage and the Ireland of today.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Florian.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
