Caprice Cottage Great Stay!!

Guest: Russ (Memphis,TN)
Date of Stay: 03/14/12 Review Submitted: 03/19/12

This house is very nice. The owner was easy to deal with. The house is one level in shotgun style and it is very old (in a good way) in classic New Orleans style but also updated. The bedrooms are shotgun style and beside the den and sitting area. The front porch was nice and relaxing. We love this neighborhood and always stay in the general vicinity. Bill the neighbor was very nice and had lots of information. Would recommend this property and would definitely stay here again!!! Pictures are spot on!!!

Home Away From Home

We just returned from our 2nd stay at Caprice Cottage and it was as wonderful as the 1st stay. Very convienent to Frenchmen and the French Quarter. We always swing by the Verti Mart on the way back in from touring the city. From the time we arrived our car never moved. We took the tour the 1st time we stayed with Bill as our guide and were very impressed with all the historical information. We also met the owner Paul who is very nice and gave us great information about Frenchmen Street. The house is very charming, homey and clean. We love this place and will definitely be back!

Caprice Cottage

My boyfriend and I stayed at Caprice for a week. The house is absolutely beautiful and is in a fantastic location close to Frenchmen Street and about 10 minutes from the French Quarter. The house is well maintained, and convenient with a washer/dryer and full kitchen. We felt very safe in the area walking home later at night, and we felt we had close access to the best jazz music in the city - on Frenchmen Street! Bill was great to deal with. He was very helpful and the Insiders Quarter tour he guided was the best historical tour we did in New Orleans. It was also a very quick taxi ride from the airport, so very easy to access when you arrive in New Orleans. We will definitely be back!

Great location, beautiful house

I stayed here with friends for a week and had a wonderful time. I was in town for the American Library Association Convention and the location was perfect- close to Frenchmen Street for going out at night, near the French Quarter for getting food, but close enough to the conference to walk. The house itself is beautiful and well taken care of. Paul was a great host and was very welcoming. Highly recommended!

The best ever!

We just returned home from our stay at Caprice Cottage and are missing it already! It is even better than the photos indicate - it has charm, funk, and warmth, we absolutely loved it! Bill was an exceptional host/guide/local friend during our week stay. There were four of us (two couples) and we had plenty of room and privacy as well as cozy spots to sip wine, coffee (on the porch) and listen to music. Its location is in a residential area that is safe and comfortable yet just a quick walk to the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter. This was my husband's and my third visit to New Orleans and Caprice Cottage, by far, is our favorite place to stay. I wish we were there right now!

Fabulous Time

The cottage is so beautiful and convenient to so much of wonderful NOLA. I really love to feel immersed in my favorite city, and the Caprice did not disappoint! It was clean, beautifully decorated and had room to spread out! Having such amenities as a refrigerator and washer/dryer really came in handy, and the management was lovely as well. Our group was very pleased, we would DEFINITELY stay here again! Thanks!!

The place was beautiful. It had such charm and beauty that I couldn't believe how wonderful it was. The beds were quite comfortable and it was a very clean place. It was a short walk to Bourbon street and the rest of the french quarter. It was a very secure place to stay at night. Me and my friends loved it!

Great place near the French Quarter

Guest: annabel (Lakewood, OH)
Date of Stay: 12/02/10 Review Submitted: 12/15/10

I stayed here with 4 of my girlfriends and we had a lovely time. Bill, the caretaker, lives in the quarters behind the house and is available for help when needed. He offers lovely walking tours of NOLA that are complimentary for guests. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area and its history. The house is well equipped and nicely decorated. It's walking distance from the French Quarter and very secure. Since it is not directly in the French Quarter, it is very quiet and away from tourists, but is close enough to get to the tourist destinations.

Wonderful Historic Cottage!

Caprice Cottage turned out to be a wonderful place to stay in New Orleans. The history of the place is amazing. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, not full of tourists. Frenchmen Street is two blocks away and a great place to explore, the jazz is great! It was easy and very reasonable to get a cab to the French Quarter if you don't want to walk. Bill, the caretaker, was extremely welcoming and helpful with any questions. We can't wait to return.

My Fiance' Jim and I were down in New Orleans spotting out wedding venues. I came across this cottage and fell in love online. When we got there it was better than I imagined. Paul has decorated the place so well. The gentleman that cares for the house, Bill, was wonderful also. The house has a very good feel to it when you walk in. We loved sitting on the porch swing at night. It is very close to the Quarter and Frenchman St. We especially liked the Spotted Cat on Frenchman, great jazz! The house was great, the beds were very comfortable and Paul left us great info about things to do in the neighborhood. We also felt very safe walking around. This will main place to stay whenever we come back.

My husband and I stayed in your home to celebrate our anniversary in your amazing city! It is steps away from the Quarter and Frenchmen Street, but in a quiet neighborhood. We loved the home, its unique furnishings, privacy and warmth. We'll come stay again. The pictures can't really capture the magic of the Creole cottage--you must come visit!

A very nice place to stay!

Guest: Mary (Paris)
Date of Stay: 08/07/10 Review Submitted: 08/22/10

An incredible historic home, much larger than what we expected when we discovered the place, extremely well maintained, quite comfortable and neighbours agreed with us: One of the most beautiful & authentic houses in the Marigny. Perfect taste here, nothing is over the top, like in some guest-houses. The last night of our stay, we sat on the front-porch in the beautiful warm sunshine, enjoying a glass of wine while listening to WWOZ. (Blues/ Jazz). We just loved the sounds of the Marigny, people walking by saying hello, the sounds of laughter, people practicing their instruments a couple of blocks away, neighbours talking to each other and the occasional song of birds in the beautiful lemon tree hiding the cottage from the street. At that very moment, life was perfect...! We have stayed at Caprice 2 times in the past, always during the summer. The magic of New-Orleans and the house made us feel just as welcome now as it has been on previous occasions. We also enjoyed the safety of the area, being able to walk for groceries and only 2 blocks from Frenchmen street where we enjoyed the best jazz clubs & musicians/ performers of the city. Thank you! We can't wait to be back and we will!

Caprice Creole Cottage

Guest: Tom (Madison WI)
Date of Stay: 07/24/10 Review Submitted: 11/30/10

The cottage is just outside the Quarter, and a short walk from the music scene on Frenchmen. It is very cozy, just as the photos show. We found it very handy to have our own kitchen, since we had access to local ingredients which are hard to come by at home. Paul was a great help and guide. We will stay here again.

Caprice Cottage

Guest: Sandi (Spring House, PA)
Date of Stay: 06/20/10 Review Submitted: 07/10/10

My friend and I had a wonderful time at Caprice Cottage. It was nice having 2 bedrooms and more room to move around. The cottage had many old antiques. It was very clean and well maintained. The bed in the front room was so comfortbale. Staying at the cottage made you feel like a local. It is within 2 walking blocks of the French Quarter and minutes to all the popular attractions by car. There is parking in front of the cottage. The owner happened to be there the same week we were and he was most pleasant and helpful in telling us about New Orleans. I can't wait to go back to New Orleans next year and take my family. I will try to rent Caprice Cottage if it is available.

Best Vacation of our Lives!

Guest: Maria (Germany)
Date of Stay: 05/17/10 Review Submitted: 09/06/10

My husband, 5 year old daughter, and I fell in love with Caprice. We enjoyed eating breakfast on the porch wa in the wee mornings (we had jetlag). This place is fantastic! We would recommend it to anyone who wants to get out of the tourist part of town. We got a real feel of Nawlins. If you are interested in Jazz, then this location is only a 3 minute walk from Frenchmen Street! Our host was always friendly and always available when we had questions. Don“t miss this opportunity to live like a local in the heart of the city!

Great Spot - Great value - Great time

Guest: Gerry (Stony Brook)
Date of Stay: 03/25/10 Review Submitted: 03/02/11

My wife and I just spent a great three day weekend (Thursday to Sunday) at the cottage and had a great time. The house is quite comfortable and near everything. We really loved the neighborhood. The neighbors were friendly and many of the homes were decked out for Mardi Gras in a very fun way. Even without a car, we found ourselves returning there several times each day to recharge (we did LOTS of walking), It's about a ten minute walk to Jackson Square and five to Frenchmen St. We even walked to the midpoint of the Uptown parades and had the great experience of watching them with the local folks (few tourists - lots of kids), I had been a little apprehensive about walking back from the clubs after midnight - but we had no problems whatsoever - still plenty of people around. We'll be BACK!

Fantastic Experience!

Guest: Jenla (Huntsville, AL)
Date of Stay: 03/17/10 Review Submitted: 08/11/10

We stayed at Caprice on our second time visiting New Orleans and it was so much better than a hotel! We loved feeling like a local and having the privacy to cook or hang out. Unlike a hotel, you can feel at ease and at home. The caretaker lives behind the house and was incredibly friendly and gracious. The front porch and garden are beautiful...the perfect place for winding down. The only problem we had was the bathtub/shower combo. There wasn't a whole lot of water pressure (hey, it's an old house) so showers weren't the easiest thing in the world.

Great little !bungalow! Loved it

The Caprice was all it claimed to be... my son and I spent a very long Thanksgiving weekend there and it was always great to come home to" The Caprice". It looks just like the pictures and gave you an authentic N'arleens feel! We did end up renting a car for the last few days as it was a bit of a hike to get into "downtown" French Quarter a few times a day.... but street parking was easy in front of the home. Would recommend highly to small families and/or couples looking to stay a bit away from the rat race!

Get bit by fleas

Guest: Sebius (Chicago, IL)
Date of Stay: 11/02/09 Review Submitted: 05/15/10

Beautiful old house!! Unfortunately it's terribly maintained. Curtains tear if you touch them. Dare to sleep in the bed and you get bit by fleas. If this house was maintained better, I would give it a 5 *. However, in it's current condition (as of November 2009), I would give it a 0*. The lemon tree in front of the house is beautiful too. Great city.

Owner response:This issue was immediately addressed. The previous rentors had brought 2 dogs, that unfortunately left fleas in the house. When told about the problem, we found a hotel room the very same day (in the same neighborhood) for these people to be able to enjoy the rest of their stay in New-Orleans. We sympathized with them, apologized for the inconvenience and they got their money back. I think the whole situation was handled in an ordely manner Having said that curtains do not tear if you don't let your child hang from them...! But after all it is only curtains, right? All best, Paul.
