High Mesa Cottage is located on a 1.1 acre lot about fifteen minutes from the ski area and ten minutes from Taos Plaza. The house was built in 2004 on a mesa about five hundred feet above the town of Taos, and offers stunning 360 degree views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Rio Grande Valley. No house in the area has better views of New Mexico's highest peaks and O'Keefe's much-painted Cerro Pedernal. No highway noise can be heard on this quiet lane as it is surrounded by open space, horse properties, and just a few other houses. Not many surrounding lights make ideal conditions for viewing the night sky through the supplied telescope or from the private hot tub located just outside. A high-speed wireless broadband internet connection is present allowing guests to keep in touch with the rest of the world.
Inside, the house has a modern, open floor plan with a large kitchen opening up to dining and living areas with 12 foot viga ceilings. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances, granite countertops, and high-quality cookware and utensils. The living room has an adobe fireplace as well as an entertainment center with satellite TV, stereo, and DVD. The couch is a king-size sleeper sofa. Radiant heated floors throughout the house make walking barefoot a pleasure. The house features numerous custom touches such as limestone windowsills, skylights and ceiling fans in each bedroom.
The master suite consists of a large bedroom with king-size bed, five-piece bath, and large walk-in closet, along with a satellite TV/DVD. The other bedrooms have queen beds, large closets, and mountain views.

This home was everything advertised and more. The owners were helpful and even had Happy Birthday spelled out in blocks across the fireplace mantel - a nice touch. The beds were comfortable, the views were gorgeous, the hot tub a perfect place to be when the sun set. With very little artificial light, the stars were amazing.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

On a girl's trip with 5 of us, we stayed for 4 days in October. The property was even better than we had anticipated! The pictures just didn't do it justice. The kitchen was well laid out and had everything you could possibly need in the way of cooking utensils, spices and electronic appliances. We loved the addition of the butcher block island -- how convenient! We even had a bottle of wine waiting for us in the fridge! The beds were wonderfully comfortable and roomy, the towels were plush and luxurious, and there was plenty of space for all of us to sprawl through the house without getting in each other's way. The bedroom layout was wonderful for privacy -- none of the bedrooms shared a wall, yet they were all very convenient to the rest of the house. There was tons of closet space, plenty of hangers, and the full size washer and dryer (laundry soap provided) were great. The hot tub was amazing, and so were the stars at night. The gardens were absolutely beautiful and well landscaped. From one side of the house, you can watch the sunrise, and from the other, the sunset. The location was a little ways out of town, but the directions provided were perfect -- we drove straight to it the first time, and were easily able to get back and forth after that. We really liked the location for our purposes -- we were able to head north to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and onto the Enchanted Circle scenic byway (both highly recommended activities) without the hassle of the Taos in-town traffic, yet we were still less than 10 minutes from the center of town. We were truly sorry when we had to leave and I wish now we would have stayed in Taos for our entire vacation. We loved the Old Blinking Light for dinner (very close to the house) and they also had an outstanding wine shop -- very convenient! For breakfast, Michael's Bakery was close and has excellent food and service. For great Mexican hot cocoa, Purple Sage on the other side of town was fantastic. On the Enchanted Circle scenic byway, Red River has the Candy Crate -- a wonderful selection of New Mexico foods, homemade candies, and a fabulous proprietor -- and Fast Eddie's was THE place for jeep tours. They also have ATV & snowmobiling, and the jeep tour was so great, we'll definitely be returning for both of those! The people running the show were so accommodating, and showed us a great time for a great price! Bottom line, the house was wonderful - rent it! You won't regret it!

This was our first trip to New Mexico. The location of this home is perfect for visiting Taos, Angel Fire and Red River. The home is well appointed and decorated beautifully. The listing photos are an exact representation of the home's appearance and amenities. It is very clean and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets, not to mention the hot tub and starry nights! The views from all 4 sides of the house were beautiful, with either mountains or valley vistas. We watched many hot air balloons take off and land in the distance. This home was perfect for our family that includes two teenagers. We would definitely recommend this home to our family and friends.
