We couldn't have asked for a better vacation home for our weekend away in Kiawah. We came down for the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, loved being only ~30 min from Charleston, so close to the beach, and in the quiet and family friendly island of Kiawah. We had 7 adults and 3 kids and had plenty of room. Home is very clean, beautifully decorated, open floor plan. Can't say enough good things, highly recommend it!

We recently stayed at this property for a bachelorette party. It was a 5 min walk to beach and a 30 min drive to Charleston. Great for relaxing or going out on the town. Definitely geared towards families or young couples but worked out great for our group too! Plenty of space, super clean, and comfy beds!

House was perfect for families with kids. Enough bathrooms and bedrooms for everyone to be comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped to handle any sort of cooking, and gas grill outside made it fun to eat outside, esp for kids on the lookout for the alligator which would swim by and park itself right at the edge of the lagoon and backyard. Really a 2 minute walk to the beach, which was beautiful. Kids loved jumping the waves. Highly recommend staying at this house!

This summer my family enjoyed our second vacation at 89 Surfscoter. The house meets our needs perfectly. We had 4 adults, 5 children and plenty of space to spare. The kitchen has all the tools one needs to prepare meals of any kind, and the open floor plan allows the family chefs to remain part of fun. The bedrooms are lovely and outfitted with plush, comfortable pillows and linens. There are 2 master suites with king-sized beds and a queen bedroom with a private bath on the first floor so all the grown ups feel very pampered. After a few hours in the heat or at the beach, the kids all trek upstairs to the Jack and Jill bedrooms for a shower and a bit TV viewing, reading or quiet play. This home's location is perfect for us. We prefer to trade our car for bikes once we arrive on the island. From 89 Surfscoter, one can walk to the beach in 2 minutes or zip over on a bike in no time. We biked to all the hot spots everyday -- the shops at the Straw Market (ice cream!), the Town Market and Night Heron Park are all minutes away. From the house, we watched alligators swim by in the lagoon. We played countless rounds of hide-and-go-seek indoors. We staged friendly games of family whiffle ball in the street and enjoyed chatting with the other vacationers passing by on foot or bike. It was everything we ever wished for in a vacation. Our only complaint was that we had to pack up and leave. However, we look forward to returning next year and recommend this fantastic home to anyone.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was in excellent condition. The floor plan was open and the bedrooms were large and separated enough for kids to be at one end and my wife and I on the other. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with utensils. The big hit was your ice maker. This came in very handy as we headed for the beach! The walk to the beach was convenient and we felt comfortable sending the kids back and forth with out worrying about traffic. We used your gas grill outside and enjoyed watching the fish and other wildlife around the lagoon. When we first arrived, the kids went to the back of the house and actually saw an alligator swim by in the lagoon! That made for a good start to the week. Thanks again and we look forward to future renting.

This was one of the most relaxing vacations our family had. The surroundings were absolutely beautiful. The neighborhood was very peaceful and quiet. There are still many activities an active family could do in this majestic area of Kiawah Island. The beach is just a 3 minute walk up the road. It seemed like your own private island. The view of the horizon is breathtaking. Back at the house, there was a large lagoon running in the back yard. There is plenty of wild life to see.The house itself is wonderful. The kitchen is set up to be user friendly for all. It is an open area for the family to be with each other. The house is big enough for many people to stay. It has large bedrooms and plenty of bathrooms. We had 7 family members in total on our vacation. The house is built so that no one could hear when mom was up making her morning coffee. We even had a toddler with us that was an early raiser and the teenagers did not hear her when sleeping in their rooms upstairs. The décor of the home is very comfortable. I felt right at home with the special touches the owners have decorated with. One of the favorite spots was the porch right out side one of the master suites and family room. Many meals were eaten out there. The sounds of the birds were enjoyable. The house is very clean and well maintained. It felt like home for the week that we stayed. We would highly recommend this beach property for both the beach and for time to spend with your family.

Messerschmidt comments, continuedInside we are struck with the accommodations and how spacious the house was. There were seven of us and twice that many would not have been crowded. The house has five bedrooms and 4 bathrooms spread over two floors and is perfectly laid-out for almost any collection of people with two of the bedrooms upstairs and away from the main level. This is where the teens found their privacy. The first floor has three large bedrooms (all with baths) and the wonderfully equipped kitchen, large living and dining rooms. As nice as it was to be outside, we looked forward to returning each day for lunch and dinner and can imagine how cozy that big fireplace must be if it gets chilly outside. The kitchen had every conceivable piece of first-rate equipment including a JennAir range and grill and an ice maker in the refrigerator. There was also a laundry room and that allowed us to return home without a pile of soiled clothes. In addition to the decks, there is a delightful screened-in porch sitting over the lagoon – so quiet and peaceful and it had a gas barbeque for grilling steaks and the day’s catch. The house was decorated beautifully. The furniture was deep and comfortable and each room was filled with sunlight and wonderful accessories. There must have been a half-dozen televisions (all connected to cable) and a great sound system. We’ve seen a lot of vacation cottages over the years that have been laid-out with hand-me-downs and leftovers from the owners but this was the exception. Every item from the tableware and china to the rugs and sofas was attractive, stylish and first rate. Each room was filled with beautiful fabrics and furniture and the whole collection could not have been better for a relaxing week at the beach. The owners of this cottage even took the time to include such touches as a collection of books and board games to while away the hours. There was a path out the door that led 150-yards to the sugary sand and seashells of the Atlantic Ocean 3 minutes away, and on breezy days we could hear the breakers as they swelled into the coast. There were a lot of people fishing in the surf and from the looks on their faces – they were having a lot of luck. The golf and tennis were marvelous and gave us a real workout before cooling off in the ocean. Moreover, there were miles of bike and hiking paths throughout the island. What a treat to be able to do this and never get in the car.All in all,

The golden sunlight comes to us dappled and diffused through the hammock of Sea Pines and great Live Oaks hung like tinsel-laden Christmas trees with Spanish Moss as we cross the bridges and causeways connecting the barrier islands off the coast of Charleston like a string of pearls. We flow down to the sea like an outgoing tide and smells turn to South Carolina low country marshes and oysters and tidal flats. This is the smell of summer! There are only two ways to get to Kiawah Island (well, three if you include that helicopter) – you can either come by boat or car but either way you’ll be crossing the Kiawah River rich with oyster beds before you arrive at the ten miles of flawless Atlantic coast beach, 45 miles of waterfront highlands and the incomparable land that is Kiawah. This is seclusion at its best. Kiawah Island is noteworthy for what is not there – shopping centers and car dealers and fast food drive-ins – and after all, isn’t this why we came to start with? We wanted to “get away from it all.” Nestled among the trees, hidden beside the lagoons and overlooking the water are the lovely cottages of Kiawah Island. There is an attractive sameness to them that makes you feel like you’re in a wonderful community and truth to tell, those full-time island residents are there not in the smallest way because of that “community.”We arrive at our vacation cottage at 89 Surfscoter Lane tucked neatly among giant trees and sitting on a lagoon – the water only a few feet off the deck. Across the water is the golf course (a delightful design as we find out) and trees everywhere. The lagoon is an endless show of wildlife. We doubt James Audubon could tire of sitting on the porch such is the variety of ducks, shore birds, heron, pelicans, deer and other animals to watch. This cottage is also at the end of the lane and there are no cars moving past the front drive. Continued

Make your vacation memories at 89 Surfscoter! My family, coming from Georgia, West Virginia and Vermont, gathered there twice in 2004, for Spring Break and Thanksgiving. The house is delightful, newly renovated, bright and comfortable. It graciously accomadated ages 13 months to 71 years. The well stocked, open kitchen/dining and living rooms is the hub of activity with space for 14 for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and lots of local seafood feasts. The family cooks had plenty of room plus all the necessary tools. Three first floor bedrooms with baths make ideal retreats for reading, napping, checking your e-mail. The two upstairs bedrooms are an oasis for the younger generation with cable TVs in every bedroom. Enjoy your morning coffee on the screened porch while you watch the alligators in the lagoon out back and the golfers beyond, explore the miles of bike paths, stunning marshes, see a huge variety of wildlife, walk to the beach, see dolphins play, fish in the sea, the river and/or the Bass Pond. Staying at 89 Surfscoter is even better than we expected and I highly recommend it.
