My family of four & I together with some good friends had the pleasure of staying in La Plantade – a private Villa less than 5 minutes walk from the lovely medieval village of Tourrettes sur Loup. This village has very good bakeries, restaurants, butcher shop, gift shops, stores, art galleries, etc. and a post office. Everything is within reach. Due to our long journey, we prearranged our first night’s dinner with the gardienne, Madame Soussi. We decided this excellent idea the last minute, and since she lives locally, she was able to accommodate us. La Plantade is a comfortable, quiet, nicely furnished Villa with antiques and some lovely pieces of artwork. It has large living spaces with many windows, and good size bathrooms. The kitchen is very functional and well equipped for our needs. We enjoyed most of our meals in the large balcony overlooking the picturesque village of Tourrettes sur Loup. The swimming pool and the beautiful garden are well maintained. The Villa is very charming inside and out! The owner, who is well acquainted with Cote D’Azur, is very kind and helpful. We were supplied with plenty of information for our adventures/activities, and excellent recommendations for restaurants in the area. Our best meals were experienced at the Clovis, Les Baccanales, La Colombe d’Or, and also at Café de Paris in Monaco. While we stayed only 9 days in La Plantade, we managed to spend a day in Antibes and Cannes, and explored some nearby quaint villages of Vence, Saint Paul de Vence, Biot, Valbonne, and Grasse. Every one of these villages has something special to offer-- from gourmet restaurants, museums, to art galleries. Sadly, we were not able to make the visit to Gourdon, which was highly recommended by the owner. The owner and Madame Soussi have certainly made our stay as pleasant as possible. It was one of our most relaxing and enjoyable vacations. We definitely hope to return soon, and stay longer! Redman Family & FriendsDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

We rented La Plantade for two weeks over Christmas and New Year. it is a charming property, full of character and worked superbly for the celebratory gatherings we hosted, whether sitting on the terrace in the midday sun, having drinks in front of the large fireplace in the drawing room or more formal eating around the dining table. it also felt cosy without guests. The kitchen was well equipped for serious cooking. the beds were comfortable. The walk into the village is short and delightfully picturesque - the Boulangerie and Patisserie are both excellent. in summary, it feels like a real home, not an anonymous rental villa. One caveat on cost- the laundry, heating and cleaning extras added substantially to the weekly rental cost. However, we felt it remained good value overall and definitely wish to return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Wir haben uns sofort wohlgefühlt und kommen sicherlich zurück!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My family with our good friends had two marvelous weeks in La Plantade. It was a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. There were adults, teenagers and a child in our party, and we all had a really great time. We took all bedrooms of the villa and the studio. The bedrooms are of medium size. The kitchen is small but quite comfortable. Unfortunately, we were very unlucky with the weather during most of our stay and couldn’t enjoy the great pool in full (it was too cold), but we managed to take quite a few trips - up into some beautiful mountainside villages to the north and Monte Carlo, Ventimiglia in Italy (about 1 hour drive), Vence, St Tropez, Nice, although getting to the highway was usually difficult due to traffic jams. Of course we spent a lot of time exploring the beautiful Tourrettes sur Loup itself, played tennis (excellent courts are very close to the villa) and enjoyed communication at the spacious terrace or in the cosy living room when the rain intensified too much. The place is so quiet and relaxing you can forget the rest of the world exists, but at the same time you are just a short walk away from a beautiful village. The owner was very kind and helpful with arrival information, ease of payment, activity list etc. We were very pleased to find an excellent library in different languages and a lot of little things needed: blankets, umbrellas etc. and all the detailed information about the area.Did you find this review helpful? We spent a fabulous week at La Plantade in July 2010, (very sorry it was not longer) La Plantade is like a home NOT a vacation home! It is a long journey from Australia and we were made welcome early and the Villa was beautifully presented. We had arranged via the Caretaker for some initial provisions to be provided....The care and thought that was given to those provisions was extremely welcomed. The Terraces and Gardens are positioned so that you may enjoy them from breakfast through to late evening and the view to Tourrettes sur Loup is particularly beautiful. The Villa is well located so that you may enjoy nothing but the House, Garden, Pool and the Village of Tourrettes or a more fast paced Holiday with Nice, Canne, Monte Carlo etc being right on your door step. We higly recommend La Plantade and know we will be visiting again and again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have just returned from10 days in the beautifullly maintained villa "La Plantade" in the hilltop village of Tourrettes sur Loup. The villa is extremely comfortable and a home away from home, with it's superb collection of antiqueties and beautiful furniture. The view from the balcony across to the village and surrounding areas is superb and it is only a short stroll to Tourrettes and it's quaint coffee shops and restaurants. The view from the deck to the village is a great spot to enjoy a vino or two in the afternoon, as the sun is setting. Our recommendation for dinner in Tourrettes would be Auberge de Tourrettes, beautiful food and a view to match. If you do not wish to eat out, the supermarket in Vence has everything you need, good french wines and a wonderful sellection of fruit, vegetables and groceries. We used the villa as a base and explored the Cote d'Azur from the Italian boarder to Cannes, as it is so accessable to these areas and also the surrounding countryside. St Paul de Vence, a ten minute drive away was by far one of our favourite destinations, with it's quaint shops, galleries and superb restaurants. I would highly recommend "Le Tilleul",where we wined away the hours with some good vino and great food. Another highlight was a unique island, 10 mins boat trip (11 euros rtn) off Cannes, Ile Sainte Marguerite. The legendary restaurant "La Guerite" a favourite of the film stars whilst in Cannes for the film festival is a must. It has a panoramic view of Cannes and fabulous Mediterranean cuisine - truly a wonderful and unforgettable experience. We would suggest if you are hiring a car, do not attempt the driveway in anything larger than a med sized car, as it would not be possible. I think the villa is so beautiful, that I would not suggest it suitable for small children - with all it's beautiful bits and peices, it would be a nightmare keeping sticky fingers off the furniture. Once again this Villa is a great destination and you will enjoy every minute of your stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.

We spent a very pleasant week here mostly swimming in the pool and lounging around on the terrace. The villa is surrounded by a mature and very private garden and is nicely furnished with antiques and a lot of interesting artwork. The terrace has great views of the surrounding mountains and of of the central part of Tourettes. We felt “at home” shortly after moving in and we were sorry to have to leave at the end of our holiday. Tourettes is an interesting medieval town with winding narrow streets and lots of nooks and crannys. The town has a number of art and craft shops, restaurants, and the usual assortment of necessary holiday amenities - bakery, pizza shop and an excellent wine shop. There are also a couple of supermarkets 10 minutes down the hill in Vence. If you are looking for a private holiday location that is a few miles away from the coast this is a great choice, it is centrally located and a short drive to Nice, Cannes and Antibes.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful two weeks at 'La Plantade'. There is so much to see in the vicinity - beautiful medieval villages like Vence, St-Paul-de-Vence and the 'villages perchés' such as Gourdon in the nearby Gorges du Loup. There are many art galleries, such as the Fondation Maeght at St-Paul-de-Vence and the Fernand Léger gallery at Biot, where you can also visit the glass-blowing factory. The perfume factories at Grasse are a short drive away, as are the beaches and delights of the Riviera (traffic can be very heavy). We visited Antibes, Nice and the beautiful gardens of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild at St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. There are amazing drives up into the mountains such as the Gorges du Cians or Gorges de Daluis if you don't mind driving a little further. Or you could drive up to Les Courmettes which is no distance away, and from where there are amazing views over the coast from the firemen's lookout post. Or you can just stay and enjoy 'La Plantade' and the pool and the beautiful view and walk into town for your bread in the mornings. Tourrettes is a friendly and lively village with lovely craft shops and some great restaurants, such as the Auberge de Tourrettes, Clovis, Chez Grand'mère and Le Médiéval.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

How rare to stay in a holiday villa as lovely as the pictures advertising it, if anything lovelier. La Plantade is perfectly situated : the backdrop to the breakfast table is the skyline of Tourettes. Its boulangerie is a pleasant walk in the morning and the Relais des Coches restaurant even nearer for lunch or dinner. We were a group of adults ranging from 25 to middle age and we all thought the house, its situation, its pool and its art were a delight. It was a special privilege to spend time with the sculptures, library and paintings which all contributed to the ambiance. St Paul de Vence with its art history and the Maeght foundation is but a short drive away and we would highly recommend Vence for the Matisse chapel and Les Bacchanales restaurant whose decor is wicked and the food very good. Having Nice and Cannes so near too is the icing on the proverbial cake...incredible to think that the time-warp village of Tourettes with its market, cafes and boules exists within 30 minutes' drive of La Rotonde in the Negresco. Communication with the owner was efficient speedy and helpful and in short we would strongly recommend this property. The information given was very accurate right down to the reassuring advice re the very narrow access road. We've stayed in many holiday rentals and this one gets extremely high marks.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

My wife and I stayed at "La Plantade" together with good friends. It was a wonderful holiday thanks to the unique property and the surrounding. From the main terrace of the house you have a magnificent view onto the medieval town of Tourrettes-Sur-Loup, which is only fine minutes away by walking. The enchanted town has small stores which offer fresh produce and other food you may require to re-stock if you wish to eat "in house". Otherwise there are nice restaurants offering local food. "La Plantade" is set in a big and very well kept garden. The swimming pool has a good size but is not heated, which helped us to get started with a good fitness training before breakfast ! There are many usable terraces around the house so that one can always expose or avoid oneself to the sunshine. The property is well protected and secluded from neighbors or noise. The living and dining room are very generous in size. The bedrooms are of medium size. The bathrooms and kitchen are smaller but comfortable. The house interior is very charming, full of antiquities and interesting mementos belonging to the owner. The nearby towns of Vence, St. Paul de Vence, Antibes, Grasse, Cagnes, Cannes and Nice offer plenty of program for excursions and eating out at great restaurants. All in all, great property, great location, wonderful relaxing experience. You will certainly need a car to move around. The driveway to the property is extremely narrow, so don't attempt to drive in with your Bentley. It wont make it !Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Recently back from a glorious week in La Plantade, have to say the villa was in a fabulous location only a few minutes walk from the village of Tourettes sur loup which is a charming village extremely friendly and plenty of choice in restaurants, shops, boulangerie’s and some lovely walks with amazing views. The villa itself was way beyond what I was expecting plenty of room, there was 6 of us staying 2 couples used the main house and we used the apartment and it was all extremely comfy with everything you could possibly need provided, we were luck that we got great weather for the full week in the May and the pool was brilliant for chilling out in plenty of comfy sunbeds and fridge just at hand for keeping the drinks cool. Would highly recommend a stay in La Plantade and will definitely be heading back again soon.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I rented La Plantade for a month in 2009, and everything about the experience was just wonderful. Both the house and the village were even better than I had hoped. I had been looking for a house within easy walking distance of one of the hill villages in the Cote d'Azur area, and La Plantade worked out perfectly for what I wanted. The house was very comfortable and charming - clean and well-maintained with wonderful views and all the conveniences you want in a vacation house. The gardienne (caretaker/contact person during our stay) was most friendly and helpful, and it was very convenient having her nearby. The medieval village, which we had never visited before, was just delightful - wonderfully picturesque, with very friendly people and several good restaurants and cafes, plus bakeries and small grocery stores to provide all the necessities. (There's also a good supermarket about 5 miles away in Vence.) It was an easy 7 or 8 minute walk to the village square, and there is parking in the village square if you need to get the car nearer the shops for some reason. During my stay, I had a number of friends coming and going, so the location of the village, quite convenient for the Nice Airport, was a definite plus. It's also just a short drive to Nice, Monaco, Antibes, Cannes, as well as Vence and St. Paul de Vence. There are a number of excellent museums and other sights in this area, plus all varieties of shopping (village markets to ultra-high end in Cannes). The ages of our party, which included Americans and Brits, ranged from 11 to 66, and every single person was just delighted with the visit to La Plantade and Tourrettes. There were no complaints at all. The weather was still a bit cool at times, so only a couple of our visitors were brave enough for a swim, but the pool was very clean and well-maintained. The only people for whom I might not recommend La Plantade are those who want to do serious gourmet cooking during their stay. The kitchen, while well equipped, is pretty small, but was more than adequate for our purposes. I think anyone looking for a house in or near a charming hill town in the Nice area would find La Plantade difficult or impossible to beat.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I with 2 friends stayed at Plantade for 10 days at the beginning of October. It was still warm enough for a swim in the pool, and some sunning on the terraces. My wife and her friend, Cindy, would walk to the bakery ever morning for "pain au chocolate" while her husband, Dallas, and I prepared breakfast. Each day was filled with exploring: into Monaco, Italy (VentiMiglia is really funky, but the market closes at 12, so don't miss your timing), Guordon perched on its pinnacle, etc. museums, restaurants, crafts abound. I doubt if we ever had to spend more than an hour or so on the road. We all love our food and found the kitchen equipment very complete. We were able to cook a few very good meals and dined either on one of the terraces or in the dining room. The local produce and meats bought in the village are super. For an American the lack of insects at night is a very pleasant suprise. The general ambiance of the lovely old furniture and modern paintings you will not find at any hotels I know of. I can't think of a better trip we have ever had. The luxury of staying in one spot and having a person there to take care of incidentals makes this a truly luxurious vacation. Just a great time was had by all. We can't wait to return.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had the most wonderful week that is now etched in our memories as one of best ever holiday we've ever experienced. We stayed with another couple to celebrate a 50th birthday and with 2 of our adult children and all 6 of us continue to rave about that one week. The house is full of charm, the outdoor area perfect for entertaining, and the pool perfect for fun and relexation. Tourettes sur Loup is a beautiful village in itself and Nice is not so far away. On top of that Gourdon and Grasse are within easy driving distance. We will definitely be back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at La Plantade felt like a warm bath; the personality of the house surprised us. We celibrated our holiday there with three children. It's necessary in this house that children understand how to deal with pretty things in the house, but when they do, it is a perfect house. The swimmingpool has been used a lot by our children, it's a nice large swimmingpool, with great sunchairs next to it. When it was too warm to sit outside in the sun, the outdoor roof sheltered us and we enjoyed the great view of the village. For the colder evenings there are enough books to read en qualityfilms to watch. The housekeeper was very helpfull and the house was clean and good maintained. The quality of the beds can't be descriped as typicall french!! We had very restfull nights. Tourette is a lovely place. We were surprised that the owner of the alimentation still remembered us from the years before (he really has great food in his store). It's a pleasure to see the locals play jeu de boule, while nipping of a cool glass of rose in the cafe du Midi or the cafe des Sport. There are enough restaurants to spent a nice evening and the boulangers and the boucheries are a joy to visit!! We also had a good walk on the mountain near the house, a total different world within handreach. Bottomline: we had a great time. Carole Stone author of : 'The Ultimate Guide to Successful Networking' said of her stay in 2004, 'La Plantade is a very personal villa in which to entertain both family and friends on holiday. The shady terrace and the garden were particularly admired by guests.' Huw Radley wrote: “In July 2004 we spent two glorious weeks at La Plantade which is perfectly located in idyllic Tourrettes sur Loup. Most memorable are the wonderful views from the superb, all round well sheltered terrace and upper main bedroom – the distant sea, the mountains, and a perfect view of the village - which in itself is such a delight. Don’t miss market day on Wednesday for some additional local delicacies. Our plans to explore the Cote d’Azur were somewhat put on hold given the temptation to just chill out at the poolside, and enjoy the ambiance of the villa and its beautiful gardens. Having said that, access to the entire region is within a very short drive - and well worth the effort.'Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 8/11
