I needed to find suitable accommodations for 10 adults and 10 children- specifically, a family reunion which included my parents and my three siblings (and their families). Obviously we rented two homes (this one and an oceanfront cottage) in order to accommodate all of us, and I was so happy to be able to deal with only one owner for both houses. The owner (John) was terrific to deal with and somehow managed to make the whole rental experience a pleasant one. I feel compelled to share my experience so others (including those who need extensive accommodations like I did) can also have a great and memorable vacation. Two families stayed in each house, and my parents sort of flip-flopped back and forth. I got to stay in the Loggerhead Beach House, and it was absolutely perfect. You get a nice view of both the ocean and the 16th fairway (my husband's an avid golfer). There was plenty of room in the house for my family and my brother’s family and even my parents whenever they decided to stay over. The spacious common areas were plenty large enough for everybody to be together comfortably during the day, and the bedrooms were ideally situated (bedrooms are at the corners of the house with their own private bathrooms) so everyone got a restful night’s sleep before tackling the next day. I did not get to stay in the cottage, but I was there a lot during the week. It has the charm and warmth that you’d expect from a cottage, yet it is very roomy and only steps away from the beach. I must admit, the views of the ocean were breathtaking. Which house was better? I really can’t say. All I can say is that both houses were as clean and tidy as a 4-star hotel, both houses were welcoming and inviting, and everyone had a fantastic time. The look and feel of the home, the location, the amenities, the accommodations, the view, the management, etc.- we all rated this vacation/reunion an absolute 10. We had a better time here and have spent less money here than at just about any other reunion we’ve had. Needless to say, we’ve all decided that we will be having the bulk of our reunions here.

We had a great two weeks stay at the Loggerhead house last summer with my parents and sisters family. We relaxed at the porch with gorgeous views of the golf course and lagoon out back and watched the sunsets over the ocean on the front porch. The photos show the house accurately. The home was clean. The owner was great at answering any questions we have and were timely and prompt with packet and key. We plan to come back with our families again.

It's been a great week here at Loggerhead. The house, the views, the weather, the island - all perfect. This was our first visit and won't be our last. We saw "Ollie" on the first day and a few more times during the week. We had a blast playing croquet and felt our age playing tennis. We'll spread the word about your ownderful retreat home here at Loggerhead. It's a true sanctuary. Thanks so much for your hospitality and graciousness.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful Bald Head Island home with my family. We have been coming at different times to Bald Head for the past 15 years. It is so special to us! Another beautiful memory has been made this week. Thanks for your gracious hospitality. The weather was perfect. It was a week filled with many things- attending church service at the chapel by the sea Sunday morning, seeing the sun rise at East Beach, and the sunsets off your front deck, biking, fishing, golfing, walking, shopping, cooking and using your gas grill, being able to enjoy the club and this house. It was great riding around in the golf carts to view the changes on the island the past several years. So grateful to have been able to enjoy your home and Bald Head this week.

My family and I had a great time on the island. We were a little disapointed in the house. The house was not very clean and in shabby shape. The views of the ocean were not enough to make up for the hair all over the bathroom floor. Both cyber rentals and vrbo say that shoals club memberships are included in the rates that is not true, however we did not find that out until we were already there. I was happy to know that the owner was going to fix the membership typo.

Owner response:We value the opinions of all of our guests and we strive to make their beach vacation the very best possible. We give special attention to their needs and are always available to address their concerns to best of our abilities. Each guest is not only given my cell number but also my home phone number. At no point were we notified as to the condition of the house. If so we would have had housekeeping remedy the situation immediately. Our housekeeping staff is very professional and takes these complaints very seriously. Our rental agreement and Websites clearly state that only Bald Head Island membership is included. I offered this renter a complimentary Shoal’s club membership when a small mistake on VRBO was brought to my attention, but no response was given to my offer. We understand that all guests want their vacations to be perfect and it becomes emotional for some. We would certainly welcome back any guests and extend our full hospitality and professionalism.

Thanks for allowing my family to use your beautiful house. Everything was better than we could have imagined. Everyone says this was the best vacation ever and they want to keep coming back. The gator on the 16 fairway was a huge and great hit with everyone.

We could not have asked for a better week here. The house was perfect for us. The location suited all of us-those who wanted to read, those who wanted to beach it, those who wanted to swim at the pool, or those who chose to simply sit at the table and enjoy the views. All the extras the house boasts were a treat for us. Thank you for sharing all of it with us. Beautiful home, gracious hosts, great views!

We arrived on Thursday to discover an island paradise that exudes nature's phenomenal beauty at its best! What a perfect setting for our wedding, which took place on the beach yesterday afternoon right before sunset. My new husband couldn't have picked a better place to spend our last couple days of "singlehood" and to begin our lives of marital bliss together. The house was all that we could have hoped for and more! Thanks for the wine and beautiful memories. My husband and six close friends, as well as myself, enjoyed our stay here immensely. Watching the sunsets form the front deck in the evenings was right up there with watching sunsets in Costa Rica. FABULOUS!! Thanks again for the use of this great house. It has been a weekend we will remember for a lifetime.

We stayed at the Loggerhead House in October. The views are great and accommodation is perfect for us. We loved the central location of the house. The owner were real nice and very accomodating. We are coming back to the house next summer.

Second Stay on BHI

We have fallen in love with Bald Head Island, NC. The overall experience of the island is so spectacular, that we would be hard-pressed to not have a good time, even if in a shack. The location of Loggerhead House is a pretty good one. There are views of the ocean from the front deck and out the low windows in the kitchen. The views out the back are of the golf course and a lovely pond. It is close to the road to the shopping and grocery and not far from either the BHI Club or Shoals Club. It is a short walk or very short golf-cart ride across the street to a South beach access point. The layout of the house is perfect one family or two families traveling together. There are four bedrooms total, one in each corner of the house, or looked at another way, two bedrooms on each side. Each bedroom has it's own (small) full bathroom. Per side of the house, there is one bedroom with a queen or king and one bedroom with twins on each side. Also on each side, there is a nice screened-in porch off of one of the bedrooms, for a total of two screened in porches overlooked the golf-course pond. The main part of the house is one big room, with a small kitchen that opens into a great room, with a huge table and seating area, as well as a smaller eating or game table. The decor of the house is functional, but out-dated and borderline dingy. Also, we weren't thrilled with the cleanliness of the house upon our arrival. While there was nothing egregious we just felt that all of the floors and other surfaces needed a good scrubbing. The pots and pans need to be replaced. We expected things to be a little bit nicer (and much cleaner) for the price. The owners were really nice to deal with. They were very responsive and accomodating when we were inquiring about the property. We appreciated that a membership to both clubs came with the house and they had made all of the arrangements for our temporary memberships. On another positive note, the house was well-stocked with beach equipment and toys for children. There were also bikes for adults and kids. We would probably not rent this house again or recommend this house to friends unless the price came down or it was really cleaned down to the studs and updated. But having said that, we had a wonderful vacation on Bald Head and will return again and again, looking for the perfect rental.

Home away from home

We stayed here for a weekend get away during April of 2008. What a great place and it feels like your at home. You just feel so at ease and comfortable. Anything you could think of needing is there. The washer and dryer allowed us to go home with no dirty laundry and the scenery was fabulous. The owners are great to deal with. We would definitely stay again.
