Location: Armagnac Region, Midi-Pyrenees, France, Europe

Accommodations:  Chateau, 12 Bedrooms, 10+ Baths (Sleeps 24-26)

The owners of this family château, once the hub of production for prime Armagnac with out buildings dating to as far back as the 12th and 13th centuries, have now decided to open their doors to the discerning few who wish to spend a few days, or a week or two, steeped in the history and culture of the Gers in the South-west of France.

Although it now continues to produce premium white wines, the production is reserved for the chateau’s private cellar, is consumed by those who are privileged enough to come and be wooed by the charm of Le Chateau d’Armagnac and its residents. From an intimate couple on their honeymoon to a grand family reunion or a business conference or seminar for 26 people, the Chateau and its chatelain bid you a warm welcome.

The property boasts of a 12 hectare park with vineyards, fields and woodlands planted with a variety of trees, some as old as two centuries. The English style garden, with its flower beds and cascading rose arcades, provides deliciously scented bouquets for the rooms of the Chateau. The kitchen garden seasonally provides herbs and vegetables to those adventurous enough to cook their own food or those who wish to wallow in the lap of luxury and hire a chef to prepare their meals. Of course we must not forget the orchard with peach, apricot, plum, cherry, apple and walnut trees whose fruits land in sumptuous pots of homemade jams or hefty desserts for the weary travellers at tea time.

Relaxing by the poolside in the midst of a scented spa of rosebushes, honeysuckle, jasmine and ivy is a massage to the senses while sipping on a perfectly chilled glass of the chateau’s white wine. The pool is saline filtered, negating the necessity for chlorine, reducing the risk of eye and other skin problems, and allowing our nostrils to waft in the beautiful scents surrounding the poolside instead of being invaded by the chemical odours of usual swimming pools.

For the more sportive swimmers, the pool is equipped with a jet stream to create a counter current that is adjustable depending on our energy levels. It is conveniently activated by a simple button at the pool steps. The elevated solarium or sun deck can be reached by a stone staircase and has a grand view of the surrounding countryside while being shaded from unwanted prying eyes allowing one the luxury of a full body tan. The sun deck can be locked for extra privacy and security.

Beyond the Chateau is Gascony, the magnificent region of France’s South-west, a gastronomical center of the culinary kingdom, home of ‘foie gras’ and ‘confit de canard’, truffles and mushrooms, ‘cassoulet’ and may the list go on and on! Gascony, specifically the Gers where the Chateau is situated, is considered the Tuscany of France with it’s tiny exquisitely built hamlets and fortified villages nestled at the top of steep hills, the colonnaded marketplaces and arcaded plazas. For the avid sightseers or for the more easy going travellers, time will stand still between the Romans and the Visigoths and the Arabs and the Normans – a journey back in time! For those who wish to just relax and sit still, the Chateau provides a secure haven with all the comforts of home!

From the Chateau's guestbook

"A place of magic. Gorgeous. Like the Lord of the chateau. It should not be made known, this hidden corner of paradise closely guarded for the knowledgeable few, not to be wasted. Jacques, we love you dearly..."

"Once upon a time there existed a chateau nestled on the hills of the Gers, where Master Jacques received his friends. All had treasured memories of the beauty of the place and the generosity of the Master. The problem was to leave and the only solution to return. QED."
