Location: Ludlow, Okemo, Vermont, USA (Mt. Holly: Between Okemo (7 Miles) and Killington (20 Miles))
Accommodations: Large Log Cabin, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 8-14)
The perfect getaway...for a week or two...or just a long weekend...any time of year.
Less than three hours from Boston.
Less than five hours from New York City.
The perfect size group would be one, two or three adult couples with maybe up to five or six little ones.
While there are only two "conventional" bedrooms in this vacation home (one of which is part of a completely separate "mother-in-law apartment" on the lower level of the house)... there is also a private queen-size sleeping loft... and one additional bedroom that we call "the cave" because the roof of the house slopes down into it. Great sleeping for adults or children in "the cave." But no standing up or dancing around... unless you happen to be less than four feet tall! All of these private sleeping spaces are queen-size. There are also several not-so-private sleeping areas. Everything from twin-size built in "sleeping nooks" to queen-size fold-out futons on frames. Plenty of room for two families or up to seven or eight couples.
Our house is completely furnished, including several cords of seasoned firewood. Linens, blankets, comforters, towels, pots, pans and dishes are all provided. There are two fully equipped kitchens as well as two large outdoor gas barbecues that are used year-round.
There are two and a half bathrooms and an extra large washer and dryer. In addition to gas heat throughout the house, there are three woodburning stoves, all of which are free-standing fireplaces, and plenty of seasoned firewood.
We recently installed a European hot water heating system that cannot run out of hot water, no matter how large your group or how many showers you take. There are two TV's with crystal clear full premium movie package satellite dish reception, two VCR's, a DVD player and two complete stereo systems.
Our winter guests enjoy skiing at Okemo (seven miles away) or Killington, the largest ski area in the East (20 miles away). Bromley, Magic and Stratton are also well within striking distance. Cross-country skiing on prepared trails is available less than five miles from the house at Fox Run (a golf course in summer and fall), as well as on the innumerable prepared snowmobile trails that cris-cross our area. Even horse drawn sleigh rides are available.
Summer and fall vacationers have all that Vermont has to offer close at hand. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, tennis, golf, antique hunting and even Old-Time Locomotive Train rides are all nearby. Swimming, boating and fishing are all to be found on Lake Ninevah, less than one mile from our front door. Virtually no visible new
construction has been permitted on this pristine 200 acre lake in more than thirty years, leaving about 90% of its genuine wilderness shoreline intact. It should be noted that boats with motors of more than five horsepower are not permitted on Lake Ninevah, but we do throw in our two person kayak, our canoe and our fishing dinghy (all people powered) at no extra charge.
Foliage Season (an unforgettable experience in Vermont) usually peaks right around Columbus Day Weekend in October.
Bring your camera!
You get the entire house for the above flat rates, regardless of the number of people in your group.
Other than the 9% "Meals and Rooms Tax" demanded by the State of Vermont, and a fully refundable security/cleaning deposit (usually $200), there are no additional charges of any kind at any time. Utilities and snow plowing of the driveway in winter, after every storm, are included in your rental fee.
