Rockmere Cottage, as its name implies, is a rock bound shore-front home on one of Maine's most scenic shorelines. Providing the quintessential Maine experience, Rockmere Cottage is a 1950s bungalow surrounded by rocky coastline, private beach, forest, spacious yard, and views gazing out to the Mark Island Lighthouse. You will love relaxing on the deck, marvelling at the variety of sea-faring vessels as they travel the primary shipping lane of the area, connecting Camden to Bar Harbor through Stonington Harbor.
Kids, and adults too, will eagerly explore the seashore where starfish, sand dollars, crabs, and an assortment of sea life abound. Boulders and ledges will be a fun playing field for climbing and jumping while exploring the 670 feet of private shore frontage, including two sand beaches. Beautiful forest and nearby shores can also be discovered as hiking trails cross the property. A large grassy area further provides for rambunctious children to run and play or an open area for family fun!
After a pleasurable day of outside activities, inside you will appreciate the relaxed and cozy atmosphere of Rockmere Cottage. Warm up with some hot cocoa and sit by the fire, and let the large picture windows bring in beautiful sunsets or an evening fog. A charming kitchen with all original cabinets reminds you of yesteryear, with lobster steaming on the stove and cornbread in the oven. Wooden floors and comfortable furnishings add further charm.
The master bedroom downstairs awaits Mom and Dad, while the kids rest upstairs in the three remaining bedrooms. And with the cottage only feet from the rocky shoreline, all will fall asleep easily as gentle waves caress the shoreline, and a distant buoy beckons the seafaring traveler.
And when town life summons, you will appreciate the short, five/ten minute ride to downtown Stonington where shops, restaurants, galleries, museum, ice cream store, opera house, ferry, and much, much more awaits. Or perhaps you will visit Deer Isle, and head for the warmer waters of Lily Pond, a pristine lake and great swimming area on the island.
