This was my family's 3rd vist to Maui and for the second time we have rented this exact unit. To date we have never been disapointed with our stay. The other time we rented from the same owner a second suite in the Papakea only because this unit was already rented and we were delayed in booking it. The discription is accurate and the condo is a home away from home. This unit has alsways been clean and ready to move in when ever we have arrived. This unit has all the ammeneties you could ask for and there is local shopping, dining all within walking distance. I would recommend renting a vehicle during your stay allowing you the freedom to see the entire island and all activities it has to offer. The owner has always contacted us during our stay to see if there was anything that she could do to assist in making the stay more enjoyable and we do appreciate the hands on approach. I have recommened this condo on many occasions to a number of friends and buisnes clients that travel to Maui. We are currently arranging our booking dates for next years holiday at this exact place. The concierge at the Front Desk at the Papakea has assisted us in booking some of the best tours the island has and they all have been great adventures and well worth doing. My wife and two sons have found a vaction home here that we love and wish to return to every year. We have no problem in recommending this condo for a great Maui holiday.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I rented 5 units at Papakea for 10 nights each starting 14 Nov 2012.. This was the only one we did not have any issue with. Great location; very well appointed, with all home and beach needs met. Owner was extremely helpful in our vacation planning. We will definately place J104 at the top of our return stay list.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

I LOVE Papakea and have been renting condos here for over 25 years. THIS condo is a DUMP. It smells like garbage and is very outdated. The master bed is broken and very uncomfortable. My husband was so upset when we walked in and saw the place, he wanted to go to the office and get a new condo. You get what you pay for. Look around before you book, they also didn't give all of my deposit back! We we're very disappointed. We stay at Papakea every year but we will never stay in this condo again.Owner response: This guest was in my apartment, Papakea J-104, starting Sep 19th, 2012. I wondered why she would leave such an awful comment, then I remembered! She left it a mess and I witheld half of her $200 security deposit to compensate for the extra cleaning that had to be done, which rarely happens. She was probably mad about that, but there was dirty cookware full of crusty burnt-on food left on the stove, dirty dishes scattered all over the apartment and stacked in the sink, trash piled up all over the apartment, and what must have been toddler food-encrusted fingerprints on every surface of the apartment up to about 4 feet high. I just retained $100 of the $200 deposit to cover the extra cleaning, which was generous I think. I sent her photos of the mess she left with a complete explanation of why I retained a portion of her deposit. In her review, she claims the apartment was dirty and smelly - it sure was after she left! Seriously though, this can't be true. Papakea completed the exterior rennovation of the exterior of the J building late August 2012, so on Aug 21st and 22nd, before I opened it up for rental again, I had a deep clean done (6 people worked 5 hrs cleaning every corner of the apartment; I was there) and all the carpets and upholstery were professionally cleaned. I have the invoices to prove this. She never once called me during her stay to complain about anything even though I live nearby and encourage all my guests to call me about anything that might enhance their stay. I could have corrected anything that was truly wrong, as I am very responsive to all my guests and take every bit of feedback seriously. I want you to be happy, and will do anything I can to make your stay great. Of course, stuff happens, and if given an opportunity, I can remedy anything. But this apartmant is not dirty and out-of-date. I remodeled the kitchen, put in new bath cabinets, and laid new carpet in 2009. I didn't hear from her until I contacted her to tell her know I was returning a portion of her security deposit. I have been renting this apartment for 8 years, and couldn't stay in business if this property was really how she describes it. I am the owner and I work hard to make sure the apartment is clean, updated, and thoughtfully equipped. And once you arrive, I work hard to make sure you are happy and have everyhting you need. Please check my history and my other guest comments - this negative review is a fabrication and is NOT what you will experience.

This 2 bedroom rental was a great find. It was like we had our own little piece of paradise. The complex in wonderfully maintained. My husband was particularly fond of the putting green steps from our lanai. Sitting on our lanai you can see the ocean, which is steps away on grass so soft you can walk barefoot back and forth. The koi pond is directly in front of us and attracts unusual birds which are fun to watch. You don't see any other properties from the lanai so if feels very private. The pool is between the unit and the beach but has wonderful landscaping around it so it is kind of concealed. The pool also has 5 or 6 grills around it so the pool is the very social at dinnertime and you get to know your neighbors. The large hot tub is also a gathering place. The unit itself is very homey and has everything you need to cook meals. It is an older complex but the unit and grounds are so well maintained that you don't mind. In fact, my favorite part was the louvered windows on either side of the sliding glass doors and the huge windows in the bedrooms. I slept peacefully to the sounds of ocean waves lapping at the beach. The unit is air conditioned but the sea breeze kept the place cool enough most of the time. Jan, the owner, is wonderful to work with. She takes pride in her properties and does not like anything to be wrong with it. Her maintenance team, a married couple, came by to fix a broken toilet seat reported by the previous tenants. It didn't bother us but they insisted on fixing it right away. Plus they gave us lots of insider guidance on where the locals eat and such. The master bed was super comfy and I would have an issue if it were not. The location was great. You could walk the beach to restaurants and bars and you could walk to the grocery store and other shops on the street in front on the complex, though you can't see any of that from the parking lot because of the awesome foliage. Oh, and the washer and dryer came in very handy, too. For a moderate price, you will be very happy with your choice to rent this condo. And tell Jan we said "Aloha and Mahalo" for a very Hawaiin experience. Oh, did I mention the hundreds of whales we watched from our beach? Amazing!!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The location of this rental was great. We were within walking distance of the farmer's market, video rental store, grocery store and gift shops. The ABC market had some great souvenirs that actually were just as well priced as the swap meet we drove over to on Saturday on the other side of the island. Snorkel Bob's, also within walking distance, was very helpful and supplied us with great equipment for the week. We had contacts through friends at home to set up activities; however, Andreas with Tom's Barefoot Tours was able to get us the best price on all the activies we wanted to do: zipline, Luau, biking, etc. The condo on the ground floor was great with kids....easy access in and out to get to the pool and beach. I would probably stay higher up if it was just adults trying to relax. Stopping at Costco and WalMart when we first arrived saved us a lot on food. The grills at the pool were great and we used them several times. Thanks Jan!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Just came back on May 18, 2011 from a lovely, relaxing stay for 7 days at the Papakea in Maui. Our condo and everything we could think of, and then some. We had a ground floor unit, right across from a tranquil koi pond, and beautiful exotic plants and flowers. While we spend several days sightseeing, we could have just as well spent that time at the resort. You have both the ocean with a lovely beach, as well as several pools to choose from. Jan who owns the condo was super helpful and very informative. We've been to Maui several times, and this visit was one of our best - the 2 bedroom condo, with air conditioning to boot and a great kitchen made it all the better. You'll feel right at home in this awesome tropical retreat.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

This unit is in an ideal location. The unit itself exceeded our expectations. This is not a big fancy-schmancy cement resort. It is a moderately-sized. garden facility with a very homey feel. The unit itself is smartly & comfortably furnished & equipped w/ everything you'll need for your stay including beach chairs, a couple small ice chests, beach mats, beach towels & beach toys for small children. The pools @ Papkea are lovely & are surrounded by a number of gas-powered bbqs for your use. We loved our stay in this unit. . One thing to keep in mind tho is that this is NOT a beach-front resort but an OCEAN-FRONT facility. One of our favorite things was the sound of the waves crashing against the sea wall. We could hear this from our unit. There is grass right up to the sea wall & that was a favorote spot for many having their morning coffee or evening cocktails. The gardens & Koi Ponds @ Papkea are phenomenal - everything you'd expect in Maui. There are lovely beaches close by w/ snorkling only a few feet from shore (Old Airport was our fave). There is a grocery store less than a quarter mile away as well as other shopping. If you are a diver, I would suggest Jan's husband's dive company - absolutely top-notch w/ top of the line eqpt. Papakea is about 5 miles from downtown "Old Lahaina" but well, well worth the trip (multiple times). I cannot say enough good things about this unit. We had 4 adults & a one-year old and had plenty of room. The second bathroom is full-size. The washer & dryer in the unit was also a plus. We'd suggest Cheese Burger in Paradise for a phenominal burger, Buzz's Wharf for outstanding seafood, Fat Daddy's (in Kihei) for bbq. Most importantly, Jan was very accomodating & was always very prompt in answering our questions before arrival. No unpleasant surprises! You can't ask for more for your vacation experience.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had never been to Hawaii so it was hard to pick an accommodation. I am so glad we found Papakea J-104! The resort is the perfect combination of comfortable and laid back, with great pool, bbq grills, mini-golf course, and a gorgeous koi pond - right outside our lanai! The unit is spacious and the furniture is comfortable - we stayed 10 nights, and it was important to have comfy living room furniture and comfy beds. I was hesitant to stay on the first floor because of privacy, but now I don't think I'll stay anywhere else. Just walking out the door to the pool or ocean was so convenient! The unit was well-equipped, the kitchen easy to work in, nice to have an ice chest for picnics. Really, it was great. If we come back, we are staying there.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Recently returned from a very relaxing stay at this Condo in Papakea Resort. Condo was very clean and had everything we needed even down to boogie boards, beach umbrella and beach chairs. The kitchen was very well equipped and it was fun to be able to use the gas grills set up around the pool. Great to have a cooler available to take lunches out with us on our days out. Nice to have the condo on the ground floor making it very easy to come and go to the pool, putting green (using the golf club also provided!) and to the ocean front to watch the spectacular sunsets. Location is great - love being able to walk across the street to the grocery store, coffee shop etc. or follow the path along the ocean and on to the beach. Jan, the owner strives to make sure you have everything you need in this condo for a very comfortable stay - there is plenty of room for a family and she is so helpful in providing information on nearby activities, best places to eat, best beaches to visit. I would definitely recommend this condo to others!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We stayed in J104 the month of January, 2010. It was nice having a condo on the first floor, easy access to pool, office, parking, etc. The condo had everything you could want from beach towels, a golf club, golf balls, boogie boards, to sand toys if you had youngsters. Also Jan, the owner, was available to help in any way she could. We would recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in Maui at an affordable price, and would stay here again if we get a chance to return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Papakea Resort J – 104 My family enjoyed our best vacation yet at this beautiful and conveniently located 2 bedroom condo in Papakea. J- 104 is the perfect place to stay to really get the most of the Island. We found ourselves so close to everything we wanted; beaches, great restaurants, hotels, Front Street, and tons of shopping. Everything anyone could ever need is either in the condo or a few steps away at one of the near by shops. The condo itself was perfect for us. We enjoyed coffee on the patio every morning and getting a first look at the ocean. The rooms are spacious and clean and all amenities are provided. The location is truly superior for convenience. We managed to hit a different beach everyday. With 2 infants, we found this location to be ideal in terms of safety and convenience. Jan is an owner’s owner. She is amazing providing virtually anything you need to complete your vacation and have the experience exceed your expectations. She has her heart invested in your stay and she went to great lengths to assure our stay was perfect. When I return to Papakea it will not be on my schedule, rather it will be when this unit is available again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

we enjoyed our stay at J104. Of particular benefit was having the STAR grocery and ABC store within a short walking distance. When we arrived, we purchased groceries and had breakfast in the condo daily, without having the expense of eating out. We also lunched at the condo on several days and it was nice having a fully furnished kitchen and a start up supply of paper products...thank you! The close proximity of the pool and hot tub were wonderful ....yet just off the path to afford some serenity. Papakea is a nice complex for families; we did not encounter any problems at all. The unit was clean and comfortable. We particularly loved having the washer and dryer...having stayed 5 days earlier on Oahu, it was nice to launder our clothes while enjoying the relaxation of the condo amenities. thank you!Did you find this review helpful? Jan, I just wanted to thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful home. My husband and I wanted to take a gander at what type of bed that was because it was absolutely COMFORTABLE. If you read this can you find out and let me know as I need a new bed and would love to get one just like that. I was surprised to see that we were not far from the pool, parking and a coy pond right outside our door- The fish were huge. Your place is so accommodating. I took note to all the stuff you furnished us with because I too have a rental property myself on Cape Cod, I also took note to all the beach toys avail along with the cooler. My 2 year old enjoyed playing with all the beach toys. I cannot believe how beautiful the beach at your complex was: Made for a nice surprise and a nice walk over to the Westen Hotel where friends were staying. On a final note: having a master bath and a separate bath for guests, along with an AC made for a comfortable vacation bringing along my elderly mother-Thank you Will be looking you up in the future when we come back. Aloha and Mahalo. Thanks for Sharing J-104 Peggy DeanDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I was nervous about sending all our vacation money in advance to a stranger, for a condo I’ve never seen. All the experts tell you never to do this, but after e-mailing and talking with Jan I trusted my instinct and booked J-104. We are so happy with the professional service we have received from her and the Papakea staff. We we’re surprised to see the kitchen has been fully renovated and it’s a very clean and quiet condo with many upgrades. We have children ages 5 and 7, and they loved walking out to the coy pond in the morning, as we enjoyed coffee on the lanai. The parking is steps away and if you don’t have a car, you can easily walk to the Star Market for groceries, or use the ABC Access gate for great gifts and use of their convince store. Thanks Jan, we will return for the great snorkelling, whales, sea turtles and sun sets.Sincerely,The Romane FamilyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Jan, we two couples were quite hesitant about booking a condo on-line, but were very pleased with our stay at J-104. We especially appreciated how well furnished it was for us with cooking and baking utensils, all the dishes we could need, and a closet stocked with a few golf clubs, beach umbrella, many towels, swim boards and toys. We especially appreciated having laundry facilities right within our condo. We didn't need/use any A/C the week we were there, but it was great to know it was available. The location was excellent for us; a real central location between scheduled activities in Lahaina, and our daughter's wedding on Kapalua. My sister enjoyed the pool and yogacize classes, and my husband and I loved walking the beach in the early morning. This is not a fancy place, but it is clean and convenient. We'd come back! My family truly enjoyed our stay in J104. The layout of the unit was quite suitable for my husband and me and our 2 adult sons. The property was beautiful and clean. Jan's "to do" list was so helpful...she really goes above and beyond to make sure her quests have everything they need. We took advantage of some of the suggested local things to do. The Arts and Crafts fair at the Civic Center was fabulous....don't be fooled by the name because it's a display of fine artisans, not your run of the mill craft fair. The strip mall across the street from Papakea was so convenient...and Java Jazz was probably our favorite restaurant...we ate dinner there twice, and got our lattes there every morning. Star Market has great fresh food, wine, upscale items, and everything else we wanted. We loved the location as we felt we were close to almost all the places we frequented (Front Street, Black Rock Beach to name a few) We highly recommend Unit J104, and thank Jan for her attention to detail with all the amenites she provides. We will definitely plan to stay there again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a comfortable place and beautiful surroundings. On the ground level, it made it easy to access through the front and the lanai. The pond was just outside and it was just a few steps to the pool, grills and ocean. A beautiful sunset awaits just outside the door. This had by far the best equipped kitchen we've ever had in any condo we have ever stayed in before. Papakea is a great place and having Expedia right there made it very easy to purchase tickets for the many tours we wanted to take. We would definitely stay there again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Aloha Jan, Thanks for sharing J104 with us! The prompt attention when we needed help was greatly appreciated! We found the whole complex to our liking and we made good use of the barb-b-ques. Your tips and hints about getting good value for our money were excellent. We loved the Craft Fair( by the Post Office)and shopping Costco was a real saving. We also shopped Star Market and found good sales as well as friendly people. We are passing these hints to friends who will be in Maui later this month. When the weather is miserable here we just have to picture the beautiful grounds at Papakea and imagine we can see the birds trying to catch fish in the pond. The condo was private and very quiet so we arrived home well rested and looking forward to visiting again. Thanks again.....Sharon and Johnnie BootDid you find this review helpful? Papakea and J104 exceeded our expectations. The (grown) kids loved that they could wake up and walk right into the ocean for snorkeling. They were bound and determined to find a turtle before we left and they found many right in front of the complex. Several days we left for other adventures but was always nice to come back to the condo which is so comfortable and ideally located. we would definitely rent from Jan again, it was a great experience.Did you find this review helpful? Jan, Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you with feedback regarding our stay at J104. Connie is upset that she forgot to write in your journal of comments. In a nutshell - IT WAS FABULOUS !! We were very surprised at the extent the condo was equipped - the "Entertainment Books" were a wonderful touch. We had incredible snorkeling and I cannot say enough about a book called "Snorkel Maui and Lana'i by Judy and Mel Malinowski. It is must reading for anyone coming to Maui to snorkel. Their directions to "off the beaten path" snorkeling are invaluable. The four of us had a wonderful time at J104. Location was great, beds very comfortable and the unit equipped above and beyond expectation. My only problem was the body boards did not work very well - I kept falling off of them. Ha Ha When we plan a return trip we will be sure to contact you. Thanks, Bob EicemanDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We rented all three of Jan's condos between Christmas and New Years. It was for my mom, my family, and my brother's family. It was great to rent all three as we had our separate units but came together for meals and to hang out. My husband, myself and two teenage sons stayed in J-4 and loved having 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. It was very comfortable and close to all the activities (snorkeling, swimming, shopping). Also, they picked us up in a van at Papakea and we rode bikes down Haleakala. It was an incredible week- a perfect set-up! Thanks Jan!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed in J104 in Papakea on a recent trip to Maui for our son's wedding. What a beautiful spot! The condo was immaculate and had everything we needed to be comfortable. The grounds were lovely and we enjoyed the pool and yoga classes. We will be calling Jan next time we return to Maui!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We enjoyed our stay on Maui and in Papakea #J-104. The weather cooperated and we made it a relaxing stay, rather than being on the run as we have done on previous visits to Maui. The condo made us feel at home with all of its amenities.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our family of eight travelled to Maui in late April. Although we had a standard room at the Marriott, we wanted a place where we all could be together. The Papakea condo provided just what we were hoping for. It was the ideal place for our married couple and two adult daughters to unwind after the days activities. One night our youngest two slept over with the "big kids" and had a great time. Two other great memories were the two dinners we had at the condo. We were able to totally relax and simply enjoy each other. Thank you for providing such great accomodations! The Smith'sDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I leased this unit for a week in early May 2005. We needed space for up to 6 persons, and this unit was ideal for our purpose. It was spotlessly clean, nicely furnished, and fully equipped with virtually every item a vacationer could possibly want. The first floor location was very nice for access to the grounds, which were meticulously maintained by a large staff of groundskeepers. The Papakea Condo offices were manned 24/7, and very helpful. I certainly recommend this unit and Papakea as a great place for a week in Hawaii.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Aloha Jan - Thank you so much for the great condo! Our family enjoyed all that space, and I enjoyed all the modern appliances - it made my job as super-mom super easy - and let me take a vacation too! The Papakea resort was perfect for us. There was so much to do right on site, plus all that great shopping, walking and eating all within a 4 block radius! That made it easy for us as a fmaily - we could be close when we wanted to and have some independance too - we weren't always dependant on a car. Once again, thanks for a wonderful vacation and for making it so perfect and easy for us! Mahalo Nui - Joan, Lee, & familyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
