  I stayed with a friend for 5 nights and we rented through Kau rentals. No picture or video can capture the beauty of this place. the condo was fantastic and everything you could need was provided (hairdryer, wine glasses, etc.) the pool and hot tub were sparkling clean and the grounds were spotless. We cooked steaks on the gas grills at the pool and all the residents were welcoming. We spent almost the entire time at the condo on the deck. I think it is the best deck/lanai in the complex. The lady next door fed the birds each morning and we were treated to a show. Each morning there were birds waiting on our deck balcony when we woke up. We walked 1/2 mile down paved road to the black sand beaches several times and saw giant turtles and tidepools, etc. it is only about 30 minutes from the volcano so we were able to go more than once and really explore. We went to Kailua Kona for a day and then to the UCC Ueshima coffee plantation ( free coffee samples and the best view on the island). We spent a day exploring the Southern most point in the country (wicked winds, beautiful scenery). We went for relaxation and some sightseeing and this was the perfect location as it was in the middle between Hilo, the volcano, and Kailua. We didn't do the stargazing on the mountain but this gives us an excuse to come back! You will NOT be disappointed with this condo or the location!

  Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

  Aloha Ingrid and Jan - Well, here we are back in Colorado. Our vacation went soooo very fast!! You plan and plan for months and then it seems like it is over in " a blink of the eye". It was super stupendous and better than we could have ever imagined!! Love, loved your condo and the Puun"alu area! The Big Island is definitely our favorite!! My husband wanted me to leave him there and is already making plans for our return! The condo could not have been better!! It is gorgeous and I loved it soo much! I took MANY pictures of the condo alone and then the grounds around it --- what can I say? We met so many very nice people down at the pool area and Stan went to the party on Monday evening. I was exhausted and stayed "at home" and enjoyed the CD"s. Thanks-you for having them there for our use. I just cannot say enough about the condo and The Black Sands Beach area!! Next time we want to stay for a month or so. I will get my reservations "in early" with you.

  I could really write a book on how much we loved your home but will try to keep it short...needless to say we were very sad to leave. We got back yesterday afternoon after a brutal 16 hr trek home. Prior to staying with you we had 5 days in Keahou Bay and were not very impressed with it, the area or the things to do so we were so grateful to have been treated to your little slice of paradise. Following the 5 nts with you, we then had 11 nts in Maui. We liked the condo in Maui and the friendly people there but still kept comparing it to your home at Colony 1/Punalu'u Beach. We really loved your condo and the location of it was perfect to explore the south and east areas of the Big Island, not to mention Volcano National Park...I spent my birthday in the Kileau Caldera. Your condo had everything we needed for a great stay: location, activities, privacy, pool, Weber BBQs, tennis, black sand beach (complete with turtles!), beautiful sunset, gorgeous coastline with huge crashing waves, a cool breeze, a variety of birds, a copy of The Big Island Revealed (which helped us find some amazing spots we would otherwise not have, especially in Puna), washer/dryer, a full kitchen and a comfy bed. What more can anyone need? We were so thrilled with all that there was to do and see and would definitely love to come back. We highly recommend it to anyone, especially those with a little taste for adventure.
