This big, bright, classic Tybee home consists of a five bedroom main house plus a one bedroom apartment. If you're looking to get the whole gang together, then this is the house for you - the dining area seats up to 10 people together and there's plenty of room to roam! All guests in the house may enjoy the wonderful breezy porches, the yard, and the hot tub and enclosed shower room in the outdoor patio area.
The Blue Whale is located in Tybee's most popular residential area, the South End, and is just three blocks to the main beach (at 17th Street), or one block to the Back River beach, and walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and a fishing pier. The Blue Whale is also just a short drive to all that popular historic downtown Savannah and Hilton Head Island have to offer.
You'll love the feel of Tybee Island - the 1950's ambiance of families strolling and bicycling along quiet beach lanes, its historic and easily-accessible lighthouse and forts, and the beauty of its abundant marsh and ocean flora and fauna.
Activities abound. From deep-sea fishing to kayak eco tours, to fine dining, to local outlet shopping - you'll begin to understand why some Hollywood stars (like Sandra Bullock) own vacation homes here.
Come experience Savannah Beach for yourself before the rest of the world discovers its charms!

Why the Owner Chose Tybee Island
The Blue Whale Cottage, built around 1898, is a part of the Tybee Cottages Historic Area. This home is one of about 70 built during this era, when Savannanians took the train to their homes at the beach to escape the heat of the Savannah summer, in the days before air conditioning. This home was originally built on wooden posts like a dock, surrounded by porches with no interior staircase at the time, was completely restored in 2002. When I first found this house it was mostly obscured by the underbrush that seemed to be consuming it. I knew that it could be saved, that the location near everything on the south end of the island and across the street from my favorite beach, the back river beach, would be very desirable place to spend time away.
The Unique Benefits at this House
I enjoy the home's many porches and it's proximity to the Back River Beach.

Enjoyed a week with family and friends for an early Christmas celebration. Thank you for allowing us the space to be together comfortably. Our daughter and son-in-law live in Thunderbolt and this was the perfect location for both families to get together.

The cottage is charming, spacious, and yet cozy at the same time. It was fun to imagine how the house was in its early days. The multiple porches are great places to relax. The photos represent the house well although there are not pictures of the apartment which is well-appointed and offered part of my family a bit of privacy as well. The house is within walking distance to the river beach, the Atlantic beach, and restaurants. The surrounding neighborhood is interesting as well -- a mixture of old and new homes. The owner Brad was quick in addressing all of my questions before I booked the cottage. I highly recommend this cottage, and I hope that I will return there some day.

TheJollySkipper's Crewe invaded the isle of Tybee for the 2010 PirateFest! Our crewe of Max capacity found the house to be PERFECT for our needs! It is very cozy and felt like home away from home as soon as we walked in the door! Loved the many porches and balconies, and the hot tub was WONDERFUL. FIVE STARS!

We had a great time here, lot's of room! Hot tub was great and just a couple of blocks from the beach. The kids loved all of the porches and we had tons of room for all 18 of us! The apartment was cozy and everyone had their own space. Highly recommend this place. Also the owner was very accomodating and let us use all of his beach toys for the kids. Awesome experience, hope to come again soon.
