With privacy, tranquility, great accommodations, and fun activities, this is a great place worth experiencing!! Don't let it slip through your hands like the sand. My family, myself, and friends had a great time at the Nutty Mermaid. We have been all over the Bahamas, and I do mean all over. We were a mix of tech divers, reef divers, beachcomers, snorklers, and boaters, and Nutty Mermaid had it all for us. Make no mistake, you will need a car, but those are easily arranged in the city. A perfect blend of privacy, with access to a "major" city, we really enjoyed the nite sky unpolluted by city lights, no noise, and a world class private beach. I'm not even a beach-goer, but this sandy beach in the back yard is unbeatable for small kids and adults alike. This is on the clear, brilliant, Sea of Abaco; the largest waves we had in our week were maybe 3 inches! The minor downsides are a few horseflys, and you will need to drive to a restaurant; no real public transportation out there. The use of some minutes on a local cellphone was an unexpected bonus. Highly recommended, and I hope to return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The listing was very accurate and yet did not do the property justice. You have to see it to believe it. Michelle was wonderful to deal with as well as Joy the caretaker. Very nice, honest people. The property was immaculate and beautifully maintained. Everything worked. There were a lot of extras like snorkel gear, kayack, sunfish, great kitchen equipment etc... The review book at the house gave helpful tips of the sights to see. Nippers at Guana Kay is a must. We ate most meals at home. We could not have asked for a better vacation spot. There were 5 of us aged 26 to 82 and we all had a wonderful time. I will bring my grandson (age 4) next time. It is a very safe area and perfect swimming for all ages. It is truly a treat to spend a week at the Nutty Mermaid. Michelle, thanks for sharing this beautiful place. Owner response: Hey Laney, What a great review! Thank you so very much, I really try my hardest to make it feel like home with lots to do so everyone can enjoy the beach with out leaving the house! Hope to have you back soon! Think sand between your toes! Michelle

This is our fourth or fifth stay (lost count) at Nutty Mermaid. Each time is better than the last. The home is beautiful and private and well-stocked in a neighborhood between Marsh Harbor and Nutty Mermaid. We rent a car at Starfish, shop for groceries at Maxwell's, rent a boat at Rainbow, check into the house and time just slows down! We can relax under the palm trees, explore the islands off the beach, walk the beach, and just RELAX! I can only hope this is what our retirement looks and feels like! Our two daughters 15 and 10 love Nutty Mermaid and count down the days until our next stay. We will be back in June for a longer stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: I am so lucky to have such great guests that love the place as much as I do. The place is magical in my heart with one of the best views in the world. I am blessed to have your family as guests!! Michelle

The Nutty Mermaid is a great place to travel to with spouse/partner, friends and family. How can you not love waking up to the beach as your backyard every morning!! The house is very accommodating and spacious!! There is so much to do whether you want to just hang out on the beach and relax or go kayaking, snorkeling, and fishing. The location is great it's only a short car ride for restaurants/bars, site-seeing, exploring and shopping!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: So pleased you enjoyed my home, I try to make it as comfortable as possible. Thanks for taking good care of the place while you were there, most of my guests are good about it but you were excellent. I like leaving my stuff there for people to use, like snorkel equipment, fishing poles, ect. You cleaned them so nicely, I appreciate it and hope to have you back soon!

This is an absolutely fantastic place. "Nutty Mermaid" is a 2 story 3-bedroom villa with a private beach. Though it is inside a development, it separated by trees from other houses, so it is a feel of a very private and secluded place. The sea is quite shallow with a sandy bottom, suitable for small children. There is a kayak and a small sailing boat for your use. The upper floor of the villa is actually a 1-bedroom apartment with a separate entry (via a spiral staircase). The view from the second floor bedroom is quite spectacular.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed my home and hope you and your family return. "Think sand between your toes!"

I highly recommend this place to all. The house has all the amenities needed for cooking, which we did, and for creature comfort. Very clean and comfortable. The beach out front is great and the water gin-clear. It is very private, enough so for all-over tanning, but not isolated to the point that you feel completely cut off from the world. It is very SAFE place (harder and harder to find in the Caribbean), and as beautiful as it gets. We snorkeled right out front and saw quite a few fish and lobster, and the kayak was a blast; that is, until the wind came up and continued at 30 MPH for several days. We were assured by locals that it was unusual, but made snorkeling and kayaking out of the question for several days. This place is great for honeymooners and retirees alike, as well as families and everyone else in between. We will definitely will go back!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family went for Spring Break (there are three children -17, 15 and 11). We had a wondeful time. The pictures of the house and property do not do this place justice. It was gorgeous! We had very windy weather the first few days, so were not able to snorkel or kayak, but it was okay as we took the opportunity on those days to explore neighboring islands by ferry! It was amazing. By mid week, the wind died down and by the last two days of our trip the weather was perfect and we had a ball snorkeling and kayaking and enjoying The Nutty Mermaid. Michelle (the owner) and Joy and Mike (the caretakers) took great care of us and Dwight and Dianne (neighbors) even brought over a sailboard for my children to use. They loved it. Our location was quiet, but not too remote. Can not say enough about this wonderful house and beach! Thank you, Michelle!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children.
Owner response: Awesome! sounds like a dream vacation!

Hi Michlelle, It's crazy great. The pictures DO NOT do it justice at all. We were floored rolling out the back door onto that fantastic beach. We haven't left it since we unpacked the car. Dwight and Diana have been awesome. Dwight hooked me up with a hawaiian sling for the lobsters and that thing is downright lethal. I got 1 with a tickle stick and net in about an hour of chasing them around, at which point Dwight came down the beach and offered the sling. I got 2 more good sized lobster in no time and easily could have had more. I saw one that was easily the largest I've ever seen and I've lobstered many times in the Florida Keys. I swear it looked as big as a small dog. HUGE. He was lucky, as I already had more than enough for the two of us, so he was spared, although if he doesn't move on he may not be so lucky tomorrow. Needless to say we had lobster for dinner. Dwight also seems to like fishing more than a little and might head out with us to show us the ropes out on the water, which would be awesome for these two newbies to the area. I'll try your suggestion on the plankton tomorrow. I was out wandering a bit this evening, but didn't know about that, so I'll give that a whirl tomorrow. Cheers, MikeDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Our stay lasted a week...and I enjoyed every minute of it.We felt so lucky to have our own beach front get-a-way.In the morning we would awake, have our breafast on the patio and take in the amazing view...and it was such a gift to be able to walk the beach each morning in search of new treasures, while enjoying the serenity of the crystal blue sea.We were fortunate enough to boat over to "Nippers" for lunch and a couple cocktails...listen to some music and enjoy the ocean. The home itself is very accomidating...spacious and very well kept up,both inside and out.On our arrival...I had made the comment that it felt like I had been there before, because the photos on "The Nutty Mermaid" website were so great as well as the information. We had a wonderful time...and I will truly never forget it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
