My family, myself, and friends had a great time at the Nutty Mermaid. We have been all over the Bahamas, and I do mean all over. We were a mix of tech divers, reef divers, beachcomers, snorklers, and boaters, and Nutty Mermaid had it all for us. Make no mistake, you will need a car, but those are easily arranged in the city. A perfect blend of privacy, with access to a "major" city, we really enjoyed the nite sky unpolluted by city lights, no noise, and a world class private beach. I'm not even a beach-goer, but this sandy beach in the back yard is unbeatable for small kids and adults alike. This is on the clear, brilliant, Sea of Abaco; the largest waves we had in our week were maybe 3 inches! The minor downsides are a few horseflys, and you will need to drive to a restaurant; no real public transportation out there. The use of some minutes on a local cellphone was an unexpected bonus. Highly recommended, and I hope to return.

Hi Michlelle, It's crazy great. The pictures DO NOT do it justice at all. We were floored rolling out the back door onto that fantastic beach. We haven't left it since we unpacked the car. Dwight and Diana have been awesome. Dwight hooked me up with a hawaiian sling for the lobsters and that thing is downright lethal. I got 1 with a tickle stick and net in about an hour of chasing them around, at which point Dwight came down the beach and offered the sling. I got 2 more good sized lobster in no time and easily could have had more. I saw one that was easily the largest I've ever seen and I've lobstered many times in the Florida Keys. I swear it looked as big as a small dog. HUGE. He was lucky, as I already had more than enough for the two of us, so he was spared, although if he doesn't move on he may not be so lucky tomorrow. Needless to say we had lobster for dinner. Dwight also seems to like fishing more than a little and might head out with us to show us the ropes out on the water, which would be awesome for these two newbies to the area. I'll try your suggestion on the plankton tomorrow. I was out wandering a bit this evening, but didn't know about that, so I'll give that a whirl tomorrow. Cheers, Mike

Our stay lasted a week...and I enjoyed every minute of it.We felt so lucky to have our own beach front get-a-way.In the morning we would awake, have our breafast on the patio and take in the amazing view...and it was such a gift to be able to walk the beach each morning in search of new treasures, while enjoying the serenity of the crystal blue sea.We were fortunate enough to boat over to "Nippers" for lunch and a couple cocktails...listen to some music and enjoy the ocean. The home itself is very accomidating...spacious and very well kept up,both inside and out.On our arrival...I had made the comment that it felt like I had been there before, because the photos on "The Nutty Mermaid" website were so great as well as the information. We had a wonderful time...and I will truly never forget it.

YOUR OWN PRIVATE PARADISE

If you are looking for what feels like your own private island this is for you. I was shocked to see a woman walking her dog on the beach one day - I forgot we weren't the only people on this part of Abaco. However, a quick drive and you can be in "downtown" Marsh Harbor or Treasure Cay with lots to do and see. Renting a car is a must but thats no big deal and you can pick up your car at the airport. We found Nutty Mermaid to be perfect for a family retreat. Plenty of room (so we didnt feel on top of each other), kitchen supplies, floats, snorkel equipment, etc.(loved using the kayak). The upstairs apt is really neat with a fabulous view and the covered porch is perfect for enjoying an afternoon rain shower. I usually stay w/ friends on a sailboat so having A/C was an added bonus though we tried to be mindful of the high cost of electricity there. Michelle is very accommodating and friendly to deal with. Her maps and tips were all put to good use. Now that I am back at work I am daydreaming of endless hours floating in the beautiful clear blue water right in front of the house - paradise. I left my float for you.....have fun!!!

I spent 6 weeks there last year, and 5 this year. There is not a more secluded and beautiful beach house anywhere in the Abaco's. The owner is wonderful. The neighbors are amazingly friendly and helpful. And the price.........! Comparable beach houses in Treasure Cay (right up the road) are 10 to 20 times more expensive to rent and stacked one upon the other. Like I said last year... I'll be back. JD from the Pocono's
Owner response:It makes me so happy when guests keep coming back , one family calls it their beach home but without the work. I try my hardest to keep the price as low as I can because I know my guests have additional expenses, like car rental and food. There is so many great things at my home to do, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, fishing and the view is magical, so when others enjoy it as much as I do it makes me happy. Think sand between your toes! Michelle

My wife and I stayed here for 8 days. We love this place. Great views of the sea of Abaco from our bedroom, soft sand leading to the very warm water, and to snorkeling if one was so inclined. A kayak made exploring the nearby coves and islands a pleasure. Located close to Treasure Cay and one of the ten best beaches in the world. And only a 20 minute drive from all the great restaurants in Marsh Harbour. We'd recommend Maxwell's as the grocery store to use...it has most anything you'd need...just like being home. We tried all the restaurants the owner recommended to us and enjoyed them all, especially Pete's in Little Harbour, a unique establishment. This is a great spot for a family outing or a romantic getaway. We highly recommend it!

It just doesn't get any better than this! The Nutty Mermaid is a sweet vacation home with what feels like its own private beach with a little island a short distance off the shoreline. The open floorplan of the house and the three bedrooms, each with a king bed situated right under a picture window looking out over the beach, was perfect for our party of 3 couples. We enjoyed exploring the island and all the surrounding cays, but we all agreed that our favorite times were hanging around the Nuttly Mermaid. We all hope to make a return visit.
Owner response:I have had many guests that let me know that the pictures on line do not do the home justice, I am glad they enjoyed it so much! Hope to see them again soon,

The Nutty Mermaid is a great place to kick back and relax; peaceful, quite, and beautiful.. My wife & I stayed in the upstairs. Great for couples. The house is real nice. With a hop, skip, and a jump, you are in the water snorkeling, in the hammock enjoying your favorite drink, or on the beach enjoying the sun with sand between your toes. There are many rock-out-croppings to snorkel around . Plenty of fish and lobster. Michelle is a great person to work with. She has thought of everything that would help make the stay comfortable, enjoyable, and definitely a place to come back to. The neighbors are friendly and helpful. Would we stay here again? Definitely YES!! It would be our first choice.

Talk about getting away from it... This is the place. I spent 6 weeks at the Mermaid. Privacy, seculsion, and pretty much your own private beach. The neighborhhod, (Leisure Lee), is very safe and the neighbors that I ran into are warm, friendly, and are more than happy to be of help. I spent hours snorkeling (equipment provided) and swimming daily. If your looking for a good time, Treasure Cay is only 10 minutes up the road. You can catch a snorkel or tank dive by boat there at Tresure Cay Divers. Unfortunatley, if you rent a home up there, there's little privacy and all tourist. I have allready made my resevation for next year. The Nutty Mermaid was a dream come true.
