Wonderful Week at Sunset Point

I just loved the week we spent recently at Sunset Point. The cottage was so comfortable and cozy with the big stone fireplace. The wall-to-wall windows in the kitchen and living room afford a panoramic view of the lake. What was most enjoyable was sitting on the deck with my book overlooking the beautiful lake with the sun shining and slight wind rustling through the many beautiful trees. I was content to do this for several hours at a time. The sunsets were magnificent! We enjoyed the New England countryside while driving to the nearby restaurants for good clam chowder and fish. It was fun going for home-made ice cream and waffle cones at We-Li-Kit. Supermarkets and shopping were close by. After dinner we enjoyed playing Scrabble and didn't turn on the TV all week. It was a wonderful relaxing week, and we look forward to returning to Sunset Point.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this well appointed cottage. We needed a place to celebrate the holiday and somewhere for our out of town adult daughters to stay. The open concept made entertaining easy and comfortable. The furnishings were excellent. The fireplace feature was great. Everyone just loved it. We would rent this propery again in a heartbeat! We all enjoyed the ducks and geese on the lake. The sunset was quite beautiful. The kids said it was the best ever Christmas and we agree. Jane was very easy to work with.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Nice cottage with great deck and dock. The lake is very quiet and water is great for swimming. Teenagers were "busy" just sitting on the dock, reading books, swimming and boating...but the mall is just a 2 mile bike ride away so they could get away from the parents (and we could have some quiet time!). If you are a cyclist, the area around Dayville, Danielson, Brooklyn, Pomfret is some of the best cycling in New England...some good hills, but not killers, absolutely gorgeous small towns and farms and views. Everyone should try the Golden Lamb Buttery (on rte 109, Brooklyn) for absolutely fantasitc food and views. The only downside to the cottage is the noise from the road and the railroad across the street, but compared to the city....it's peaceful!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

This is a lovely spot. The house is located right on the water, with an upper deck for enjoying the beautiful panorama and a lower dock for boating and swimming. The house is charming and comfortable with a great kitchen and living room and a hearth in the center. It is a great location for enjoying the day on the lake (swimming, kayaking, sailing) and convenient for taking a day trips. (We went to Boston one day and to Block Island another.) We enjoyed our stay during the summer, and I imagine it would be just as lovely in the fall.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My family loved our weekend at this cottage. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. There was plenty of room for everyone and we spent a lot of time sitting on the deck admiring the view. The boats were great during the day and the DVD player was great for the evenings. Thank you!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Just got back from a week at this charming cottage. Everything exactly as advertised and more. Lake is absolutely beautiful with crystal clear water and gradual sloping shore. View from the cottage deck is gorgeous, especially at sunset. We spent many restful hours sitting on the deck enjoying the lake view, breeze and each other's company. Kids swam, paddled, pedaled and fed the ducks. Many nearby restaurants and lounges of all types. (The kitchen is fully equipped, but we didn't cook a thing!) Good variety of shopping nearby as well. We bought a bunch of craft kits at the nearby Michaels and spent some delightful hours on the deck with glue and glitter. Fun! I would definitely recommend Sunset Point cottage.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We just came back from 5 days at the lake house and had a wonderful relaxing time in a beautiful cozy well appointed home. The moment you walk in the main room and see the 3 walls of windows with unobstructed views of the lake you know this house is special. We spent our days swimming in the lake, going out on one of 3 boats the house provides, reading on the comfy couches and sitting on the deck staring at the sunsets every night. We cooked on the grill and never felt the need to leave the oasis. We brought our 8mth old and his grandma as well and all hated to leave and hope to make it a yearly tradition. Judy was a pleasure to deal with and you can tell they thought of everything when putting the house together. We highly recommend it!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I recently spent a week here, and it was wonderful. The cabin is exactly as pictured and fully equipped. Perhaps the best part is the location. The site on the lake is gorgeous, quiet and peaceful. But even though you feel like you're "away from it all," there's good shopping nearby (Stop and Shop supermarket and Target) and lots of great day trips--Old Sturbridge Village, casinos, Newport & Providence RI. Jane, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with. We would definitely recommend this cabin!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Everything there you need for a comfy stay. Jane and her family were very kind and answered all our questions. Great to be there in autumn. Hope to return another year in the summertime :o). One for the books! Plenty of good fishinf, kayaking, canoeing, swimming in and on the most pristine lake in Connecticut. I just finished (sadly) a week in the most lovely cottage you can imagine with it's french countryside flair combined with a lakeside New England charm. The view is spectacular from the large wrap-around porch or dining at the table through the unobstructed windows. Definitely a place I will go back to next year and the year after that if I can. Owner more than willing to answer questions and do whatever it takes to make you comfortable. Convenietcnt to everything, shopping, antiquing, movies, etc.AbsoRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family of four just spent a week at Sunset Point. It truly is a home away from home. Such a wonderful place to share with family & friends or to just have a quiet day on the lake. The home is ready and fully stocked for all types of entertainment. We plan to extend our stay for 2 weeks in the future. Downtown Putnam has a lot to offer for dining & entertainment. We really enjoyed walking/running around the lake each day. The walk is shaded and cool at any time of the day.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We really recommend this amazing cottage right on the peaceful lake. In May 2010 we have stayed here for 10 days and felt right at home. Our 2 children (4 & 7) adored the house, the lake and the area, so many fun things to see and do . We want to thank Jane for the wonderful stay and very kind help on all our questions. One day we hope to return to this special place again! Warm regards, The Veth Family - HollandRecommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

When I first arrived here and pulled into the driveway, I was literally speechless (which takes a lot!)over the panoramic view. I have just completed my second wonderful stay at your beautiful, cozy cottage. My first stay was during the summer months and now it is fall. Both seasons offer a fabulous reason to come back and see what the next season will bring to Lake Alexander....a winter wonderland, I am sure. The beautiful lake during the summer months was most refreshing and the magnificent fall foliage surrounding the lake is breathtaking. Sunset Point is truly "heaven on earth". I have travelled many places and Sunset Point ranks among one of the most beautiful places I have visited. Thank you, Jane and Neil, for opening your charming home to me. Looking forward to future stays..... Lynn, The Jersey ShoreDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

The cottage and setting were just lovely. I grew up in the area and spent many summers at this lake. I was so happy that my memory of this beautiful lake did not disappoint me. As far as the accomodations, the cottage could not have been better. The beds were extremely comfortable and the furnishings, as well as kitchen supplies, were top-notch. Thank you Jane and Neil for your thorough directions and suggestions. It was all very positive.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Jane and Neil, Thank you so much for opening your lakefront cottage to me and my family for our vacation. It was all that you had advertised and then some! We really had all that we could possibly have needed and, while we didn't have completely perfect weather, we had enough to do indoors, with your music, movie, book library and board games available. Our 5-year-old son just thoroughly enjoyed swimming in the warm, clear lake and we also enjoyed the excellent fishing with largemouth and smallmouth bass, as well as sunfish and yellow perch. Our son caught the biggest fish he's ever caught there! We also had a chance to visit Mohegan Sun to shop and have lunch. Again, thank you.Did you find this review helpful? Jane and Neil, I would just like to thank you for allowing my family to enjoy your home during our vacation. As someone who has vacationed all over my compliments go out to the both of you. Your webste depiction is spot on. While most wesites attempt to deceive the viewer, yours is exactrly as it plays out in life., "What you see is what you get." This is not a rental property but a home, a home that anyone could be envious of. Like you know, my wife and I grew up in the area, so touring the area meant more to us than most. For anyone interested, this home is a vacation. My family can not wait to see which week I can rent again next year. Please contact me for any questions, my comments are not intended to flatter the owners, this place is special. Kevin and Lisa BianchiDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Our second year in a row... It's nice to step into a vacation house and feel like you're home - but with a far nicer view than OUR home! We have two young kids and we couldn't keep them out of the lake. After they were in bed, we enjoyed the quiet solitude of the lake. When we weren't boating or swimming, nearby attractions were an easy drive. We particularly liked the Mashantucket Pequot museum next to Foxwoods - wow! Thanks for sharing such a great place. Perfect place! Very nice house, good location - quite area, yet in the middle of everything (New York, Boston, Cape Cod, casinos, lobster eating places, state parks). One can feel how much the owners have worked to make the house warm and cozy. Excellent CD and old movie collection! Special thanks to Jane for going extra mile to accommodate to some of our special needs because we arrived from a foreign country. We found the owners to be very responsive and generally very positive people. I highly recommend the place!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We had a lovely week at Sunset Point. It was all that was advertised, and more. The lake is gorgeous, the cottage both luxurious and homey. Even the fishing was good! We were fortunate to be in town for the Brooklyn Fair, and enjoyed a hike at the Bafflin Bird Sanctuary. We needn't have traveled to find birds, however--the little cove just north of the cottage is home to blue and green herons, egrets and kingfishers, and Baltimore orioles sang from the treetops right over our deck! Only an hour from our home, but we were in our own little world. Truly a relaxing experience.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

The Ruth family is really enjoying sunset point! The weather has been great. Temperature and sunsets are picture perfect. I canoed down the Quinebaug river from Putnam to the Rte 106 bridge in Dayville with my son. I also discovered a wonderful bird sanctuary off of Wright's Crossing near Pomfret Center. An extensive tract of farm fields with well marked trails and courtesy maps supplied by the Conn. Aud. Society. It would be a great addition for your things-to-do booklet. Biking around the back roads (e.g., River Rd.) is very nice. A lot of the land is wild because it is under the Wyndham Land Trust. We are treating your home like ours!! Thanks again.
