Experience the Southern French countryside from this fully-renovated ancient stone house in the heart of a medieval village. No car is necessary to live comfortably in Aniane, as the village has a variety of grocery shops, bakeries, cafes and restaurants. Bus and taxi service are also available to Montpellier (about 30 miles away) and other regional destinations.
The house is located within the medieval city wall, on a short, winding street too narrow for cars. Like other typical village row-houses, it is taller than it is wide - with four levels of living space. It is very quiet, with a small, stone-walled garden ideal for meals in warm weather, and a roof terrace with magnificent views of local gardens, terra cotta roofs, hills, mountains, vineyards and neighboring villages.
The area around Aniane is full of scenic, historical and cultural interest, with castles, romanesque churches, dramatic "gorges" (canyons, to Americans), wineries, and river and Medeterrannean beaches. The Cevennes mountains rise to the north of Aniane, and the Medeterrannean beaches are about forty minutes to the south east. Hiking, bicycling, kayaking, horse-back riding are all attractive options in the region. |
