This was our first visit to Kailua-Kona and we weren't disappointed. D-26 is situated perfectly - a very short walk to town and restaurants, or you can relax on the lanai with the waves crashing in front of you. From early morning to early evening, you would often see locals surfing or catching some great waves on boogie boards. Or, you can meander down to the water's edge and check out sea turtles in the tidal pools. The condo is very clean and has everything you need to make the stay enjoyable. When we arrived, the lights had been left on and a lovely basket of fruit and other goodies were left to welcome us - a very special treat. An added touch was the package of coffee beans - fresh Kona coffee each morning, mmmm! When Bruce said that we wouldn't need to bring anything more than a swimsuit, he was right. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, blow-dryer...a well-stocked kitchen, a stash of books, DVDs, binoculars, beach towels, snorkelling equipment, and so much more. And, having full laundry facilities in-suite makes this feel like a vacation with the conveniences of home. While you may want to cook many of your meals at the condo and spend much of your time relaxing at the pool, on the water's edge, or on your lanai...there were some local places that we thought were worth noting: Food: Lava Java (breakfast, lunch, or dinner...or just a coffee) - BYOB - no corkage fee Basik Acai & Health Bar (amazing cold acai bowls with granola, fruit, etc), Kona Brewery (pizza...and beer!) Lighthouse Delicatessen - in Hawi - wow, BBQ pork sandwich is amazing! Just a few of the things we did: Road bike rental - BikeWorks - great staff, incredibly helpful, well-maintained and good quality bikes Stand-up Paddleboarding Boogie boarding Night snorkelling with Manta Rays - out of Kona (wow...absolutely spectacular!) Day snorkelling - large sea turtles, eels, a variety of beautifully-coloured fish Cycling - IM bike course, but there are some great hilly rides on quieter roads that you can also try. Hike/walk - continue past Hawi and hike down into the Pololu Valley - beautiful black sand beach. Guaranteed...we will return to Kona as there are so many things that we didn't get the chance to see and do. Bruce & Alice's condo at the Kona Reef will be the first place we'll check for availability when making arrangements for accommodations. Thank-you for making this a trip to remember.

We had a very comfortable stay in this unit. It was very clean on arrival and lived up to all the photos on the website. The owner was very responsive to any needs. The oceanfront set-up is so relaxing to sit out and enjoy the sound of the surf. We always prefer the Kona Reef units as it is an easy walk to town every evening for dinner.

My wife and I recently stayed for a week in to attend and celebrate our sons wedding. All the comforts of home right on the ocean, as well as beach and snorkel equipment and just about every other thing you need for a nice comfortable stay. Walking distance to everything was convenient too. Thank you for a wonderful stay....Aloha

Stunning view and location. On the water, walk to the favorite restaurants, all the ammenities, quiet (except for the roar of the ocean). We visit Kona 3-4 times per year. This condo was the best. The owner even left us a basket of fruits and island snacks. We felt like royality. I hesitate to tell you how great it was, because it may be booked next time I want it. We'll be back.

The condo was wonderful with many thoughtful, unexpected touches such as snorkel equipment and welcome fruit/goody basket. The view from the lanai was picture-postcard perfect. We were content to stay on the lanai as much as possible and just listen to the waves crashing on the rocks. And while you are close enough to all the Kona restaurants and shops, you are two or three easy walking blocks away, so it's quieter than being right in the middle of downtown Kona. I've already recommended this place to a coworker and would return there myself in a heartbeat.

What a great condo! Clean, nicely decorated, and located right by the ocean. Our favorite times were sitting on the lanai while reading or eating breakfast and dinner. Pods of dolphins swam by every morning, and sea turtles often ate in the tide pools in the lava rocks below. We had our two teenaged daughters with us. We gave them the bedroom because they sleep in late, and we took the fold-out couch in the livingroom. We didn't think there was a chance that the couch would be comfortable, but it was, and the kids reported the bed was comfortable, too. Bruce was great to work. There were no surprises, the experience was great, and I would return to this condo again - and have already recommended it to my friends.

The Kona Reef Condo was a true highlight of our vacation. The unit is very clean, comfortable and you cannot ask for a better location. There is on-site underground parking. The view from the balcony is just perfect, with the waves crashing below. There are some excellent little touches too, the owners pay attention to the little details that really make you feel welcome.

We loved our week at the Kona Reef D-26 condo! The ocean-front lanai is worth the price of the entire week and we enjoyed eating breakfast and/or dinner outside every day. The inside is nicely decorated and the kitchen is well-equipped if you want to eat in. If you want to eat out or shop, the condo is a short walk to the middle of downtown Kona. It's a great round-trip morning walk to the ocean spot where the Ironman folks train for that competition. We hope to return to this resort and to D-26 in the future. We have never stayed ocean-front in Kona before but now we will do it every time, preferably in our new favorite place.

We stayed here 4 nights in mid-November 2010 during our honeymoon. This condo was awesome. The owners put so much care into making it seem just like home (gift basket waiting for us on arrival, snorkel gear, beach towels, CD player, DVD player, etc.). It was very clean and just a short walk to the nearby tourist area too. The common pool and BBQs were great. On more than one evening, we would take a swim in the pool, BBQ up some meat, and then relax the evening away on our lanai with the sunset, ocean waves, and sound of Hawaiian music playing in the background. We highly recommend this unit.

Thank you, again, for maintaining such a nice spot. A very small item but to see a fresh, sealed, scrubber versus the usual which have been used for who knows how long was an indication that you and your wife really do make that extra effort. The fruit basket was most appreciated as were all the amenities; virtually nothing was missing and I thank you for a very pleasant holiday. I look forward to staying with you again next Fall.

Again, D-26 and all the extras were so very much appreciated. When we arrived in Kauai we both said that we have been spoiled by Bruce and Alice. The fellow we were renting from at Wailua Bay View, while having rented for several years, and had a nice unit it just wasn't the same feel where you could go to the cupboard for something and know it would be there. He certainly could learn a thing or two from you with leaving out a binder of helpful hints and extra toilet paper. We always feel so at home when in Kona and that is simply because of you and your hospitality and your appreciation of people staying at D-26. While the island of Kauai was very nice and we barely skimmed the surface on discovering things we just didn't get that "at home" feeling we get at your condo. Thusly, we just wanted to thank you again and let you know how much the extras you do and provide are appreciated.

And so much of it was how kind the owners were and the great condo/location! After writing all this, I sure hope the next time we go to book this place, we can get in!"

We absolutely loved our stay at the condo! It was so much more than we had expected. Waves crashing within feet outside our balcony, surfers out front, very entertaining. The Big Island is great and so were our accommodations. One of our friends from Seattle is going to stay there for his upcoming trip! By the way, we passed on the king bed /bedroom. Preferring the pullout bed in the living room so we could be within earshot of the awesome waves all night too.... Thanks again, Jerry and Mary Napolitano mary and Jerry Napolitano, Seattle WA

Aloha Bruce and Alice , back home in Germany again we are telling all our friend how wonderful our stay on Big Island Hawaii was, not least because of your beautiful and so perfectly equipped condo which was very comfortable for tourists travelling with light baggage. We didn't miss anything. And the view, WOW!!! We made hundreds if pictures and hours of video of the dolphins the sunset, the turtles, the surfers and, and, and….. The only thing we have to “complain” about is that spent too much time on your lanai enjoying the amenities of your condo instead of working on our huge visiting program for the Big Island Hawaii. I fear that we have to come back once to Hawaii and I’m sure my first try to find accommodation will be at Kona Reef Condo D26. Mahalo again and Greetings from Germany Kirsten and Frank

From A to Z, Bruce and Alice Brooks' condo in Kona is well-stocked. There was nothing that was lacking, especially in the kitchen - every gadget was available, just like home, even a salad spinner, measuring cups, pasta scoopers. Wow! It is rare to have all the comforts of home in a rental unit's kitchen. This extended to all the rooms, and the special "play" closet for water sports - boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, water shoes, suntan lotion, beach chairs, umbrellas, underwater camera shells, fishing pole, and binoculars. We ate every meal outdoors on the spacious lanai, spotting dolphins, surfers, turtles, ships, and listening to the roaring waves. The bed was very comfortable. The decor was perfectly Hawaiian - pinneapple motif abounds, photos and posters of island life, and a Hawaiian quilt on the bed. Truly a gem among rental properties in Kona. Highly recommended.

This was our first experience with VRBO and we couldn't have been happier! The unit was even better than we expected. Not only does the it have an incredible ocean view (and sound!) but it has a big toy closet full of anything you'd need for a great day at the beach (towels, boogie boards, umbrella, cooler, etc...) it also has a huge binder full of useful information about the area, restaurants, and tours. We added a few of our favorites! It was great to have a welcome message from Bruce upon our arrival. It let us know that he was available to answer any questions we had. The washer/dryer was also a huge help! Thank you Bruce and Alice for having such a great place available, which makes us "mainlanders" feel at home!

Staying at Kona Reef D-26 was an absolute dream-vacation-come-true. We loved scuba diving, snorkelling, and taking surfing lessons locally (swam with lots of eels, turtles, and dolphins!). Walking downtown for yummy meals and shopping was so convenient and fun, but our favorite moments were sitting on the oceanfront lanai, eating pupus and sipping cocktails, while we watched amazing sunsets and pods of 20+ dolphins swimming by. A nice, quiet, family-friendly atmosphere (great pool and BBQs too). Mahalo for the thoughtful touches in our room upon our welcome too (we enjoyed the Kona coffee and macadamia nuts)! We stayed in your place four years ago, but we'll have to return much sooner next time!

We stayed at this wonderful condo on our honeymoon in June 2009. We were extremely pleased with our experience! The condo is newly remodeled, very well maintained, and clean. And the oceanfront location is amazing! Bruce and Alice keep it stocked with everything you'll need for your vacation. We really appreciated the free Internet access and all the wonderful beach gear, especially the snorkeling gear, cooler, and beach umbrellas. The coffee, macademia nuts, and welcome note were a very nice touch. It made it very personal. Bruce even called on the day we arrived to make sure we got in okay and to tell us to be sure to call if we needed anything at all. And he promptly put our deposit check in the mail on the day we left. It was the best condo-rental experience we've had anywhere. We will definitely return to Kona Reef condo D-26 when we return in the future!

We were delighted with the condo. It was furnished with EVERYTHING imaginable. The location was perfect, close enough to walk to restaurants and shops but away from the city noise and only feet from the ocean. Starting the day with sitting on the lanai drinking coffee and watching the surfers and ending the day letting the surf lull us to sleep was about as good as it gets. The coffee, macadamia nuts and phone call from Bruce made us feel very welcome and Bruce's phone call checking on us before we departed made us feel more like guests than renters. We will definitely check this condo for availability when returning to the Big Island.

Appreciated all the little extras--coffee filters, salt & pepper, olive oil, beach gear, even some first-aid items. Thank you for the welcome water, coffee and mac nuts as well as the check-up phone call. As we've stayed in other condos that have not lived up to their description, #D-26 was definitely 5 stars.

Alice and Bruce, We loved your condo! It was wonderful to hear the ocean and feel the ocean breezes. We walked into town in the mornings and evenings. There is so much to see on the "Big Island" that we will be back. Our favorite beach was Kahaluu. If you are looking to see Sea Turtles, this is the place to go. There is everything you need at the condo. You might want to see what is in the "beach closet" before you go to the ABC store or Costco. Chances are, it is in the closet. Bruce was very kind to come over one night to help us figure out one appliance. If you want something close to the ocean and the town of Kona, this is the place for you. It was for us. Mahalo, K & K

Stayed at D26 for 3 nights during my honeymoon to Maui and The Big Island. D26 was wonderfully located by Kona, such that we could walk down Alii Drive to the restaurants and shops. (After so much driving on Maui, we were happy to walk instead of drive.) D26 had everything we needed - including beach chairs, umbrella, even snorkel equipment (which we happily used!). The condo was clean, well-kept. Terrific to have free Internet AND cable! There were even hospitality mac nuts and Kona coffee waiting for us. Bruce, the owner, even called us our first morning in Kona to make sure we had arrived safely.

After taking months to look for accomadations in Kona, we came across the Brooks' condo on vrbo's website. Sometimes a person just knows when you have run across the perfect place for your stay and that is how we felt about this place from the start. It was everything that was promised. We loved having the covered parking available for rented Jeep. We always felt safe and even walked the "back" street into Kona. The beach closet in the condo was so completely stocked with anything you could want at the beach. What a great time watching the surfers catching the waves. The grounds were well cared for. The condo itself was well stocked, very clean, not a spot of the dreaded mold that so many complain about in Hawaii. The view..... I have no words for the beauty that we woke up to every morning. As far as working with the Brooks, they were available and e-mailed us regularly before and after our stay to say mahalo. Our favorite local place to eat was Bongo Bens. Our family wants to tell your family that this is a great place to stay!

We had a wonderful time on the Big Island and would recommend it to anyone going to Hawaii. Part of the fun of being there was staying in this condo as it is oceanfront. We were there in September and the weather was warm but not unpleasant as we had the constant ocean breezes to keep the air moving. We never turned on the air conditioner. The condo is equiped as if it were a home and everytime we reached for something it was there particularly in the beach equipment closet. The assortment and quality of the snorkels and fins was as good or better than what we brought from home. The comfort level is quite high and made for a very pleasant experience. If you want to be in this part of the island this is definately the place to stay. We highly recommend it.

Surf's up! There is nothing like being oceanfront. The sound of the crashing waves as well as the spectacular views made our time in the condo enjoyable. An abundance of wildlife awaits your viewing. Turtles, it was fun to watch them try and feed in the rocks. The surf makes it pretty hard tossing them around but they are there every day feeding. Not one, but in some cases three and four in the same rock opening. There were plenty of pods of leaping dolphins and beautiful birds to view from the lanai. Unfortunately, we were too early for whales. A few weeks later and I know we would have seen them daily. What can I say; the condo is equipped with everything you need. My wife and I enjoyed the location and all of the hospitality provided by Bruce and Alice. This is certainly the spot if your travels bring you to Kailua-Kona.

Bruce and Alices' condo is now distinguished primarily by the fact that I, Wade Hampton, have stayed there. But, even before that, it had a lot going for it: -Location, location and location - a giant leap away from the ocean and a beautiful walk away from the shopping and dining of Kona town. -Wonderfully equipped and maintained, all the guest need provide is food and drink. -Quiet and serenity. I stayed there during Thanksgiving week which may be a particularly quiet time and the loudest sound I heard was the Pacific surf on the rocks. Thank you, Alice and Bruce, I hope to return.

We very much enjoyed our stay at your condo. Everything was as promised, or better. Thank you for having it so well supplied for the kitchen and the beach. Thanks also for the gift of excellent coffee and macadamia nuts. We were greeted by a turtle in the pools beneath our lanai the day we arrived, and we took that as a good omen. We enjoyed the easy walk to town and safe, covered parking for our rental car. We spent a lot of time relaxing on the lanai, and there was always some entertainment to watch from there--cruise ships, parasailing, swimmers preparing for the Iron Man. Thank you also for the nice paperback and guidebook collections. Thought you might also want to know that the people in the office were friendly and helpful. The pool and BBQ area was clean and neat. It was quiet when we were there--no noisy neighbors--and we were happy for that. Definitely an enjoyable place to stay.

The condo is very comfortable and you have made it seem like home away from home. Thanks for sharing the condo with us. I would definitely recommend it to my friends. Terry Summerlin

Dear Bruce and Alice, Thank you very much for sharing your wonderful condo with us. We really enjoyed our stay at Kona Reef D-26. First of all, the location of the condo is perfect. We enjoyed ocean wave sound and beautiful ocean scenery from the room all the time. Secondary, the room is well furnished with beautiful decoration, comfortable sofa and comfortable bed. We were also impressed with all of the possible equipment, movies, books, Ziplocs, huts, flush lights, beach equipment and many more to give us comfort and pleasure for our stay. We have never stayed at such a wonderful condo that equips everything! Bruce and Alice, your warm-hearted hospitality and preparation made our vacation very comfortable and memorable. We really recommend Kona Reef D-26 to everybody and we look forward to the opportunity to stay there again soon. Again, Bruce and Alice, thank you very much. Love, Sam and Kiyomi From California

We stayed in this condo for 10 days in May and had an abosolutely wonderful time. Alice and Bruce stocked this condo with all the essentials needed for our vacation - two sets of good quality snorkling gear (one small/med and one large), beach chairs, cooler, umbrella, towels, bamboo mats, reef shoes, etc. It was great not having to have to rent or buy any of these beach items! The condo was very clean and included other amenitites such as a washer/dryer, dishwasher, air conditioner (although we never used this because there is always a seabreeze), two televisions, and a free dsl connection. The lanai faces the ocean and has a table where we relaxed, watched the surfers, and ate dinner. The property grounds are very well maintained and include four gas bbqs where we cooked our dinner almost every night. There is a warm pool and hot tub which look out onto the ocean. Another bonus is that it is only a five minute walk to Kona so we didn't have to drive everytime we went into town. We highly recommend this condo to anyone considering vacationing on the big island.

This was an excellent condo. It was clean, decorated nicely and was very well stocked with items that most condo's don't have. The view from the lanai was outstanding and the grounds were kept beautifully. We will definitely stay here next trip.

Stayed here 4 nights in FEb. 2006 and definitely would do so again. Loved to hear the ocean waves crashing nearby. But bedroom positioned away from surf so didn't invoke insomnia! Very complete amenities-- not just beachtowels but chairs, binoculars, sunglasses, snorkeling gear, etc. Easy walk into town and easy to avoid town traffic while sightseeing in car. Excellent play to stay.
