Deep in the heart of the barrier islands - St. Helena an area rich with Gullah Culture, low country plantations, seafood festivals, and Civil War history. Come enjoy a uniqueness you will treasure forever. Carriage tours through Beaufort, South Carolina's second oldest city, seafood fresh off the shrimp boats, scenes from Pat Conroy's books. It is all here in the Low Country.
A cozy guest cottage located on two wooded acres shaded by huge live oaks and cooled by gentle marsh breezes. From the screened porch one can see a small marina across the water. Park like grounds with 300'marsh frontage lead to the crabbing dock where you might see dolphin swim by. A new addition is the 589ft dock for fishing or relaxing in the hammock catching the breeze. All just steps from your private pool and front door. PERFECT FOR A TWOSOME OR SMALL FAMILY.( Children over 10 yrs welcome )-
Pets, too, enjoy their vacation with family. They have full run of 2 (two) fenced acres. Need to walk your dog in the early morning?? Just open the door and let him/her out. Unlike the gated communities- DATAW ISLAND,HARBOR ISLAND and FRIPP ISLAND -where they have STRICT leash laws your FIDO can run, play and be a DOG here. What a life !!!! FYI a pet door was added NOV 2009.
Comfortable furnishings in this cozy, well maintained, guest cottage have you feeling right at home. The recliner is sure to lull you to sleep while watching your favorite movie on the DVD. Or perhaps sitting in the living room with the glass sliding pocket doors fully open to the porch will capture all the fresh air and sounds.
If you enjoy awakening to glorious sunrises, seeing the moon's reflection on the water, listening to the marsh night creatures, or dining poolside... THIS IS THE COTTAGE FOR YOU. Relaxing, scenic, and private, 'It's difficult to tear oneself away from this setting', I have been told. HONEYMOONERS TAKE NOTICE.... IT IS SPECIAL !!!!
Beaufort with its interesting shops and galleries is 12 miles away and Hilton Head,Savannah, and Charleston are nearby for day trips of sightseeing.
Have you ever eaten a Shrimpburger??? Beaufort area is famous for them. Try the Shrimp Shack ,casual and fun....Panini's-Bay St,great Italian food... BarbaraJean's crabcakes...Boondocks nightly specials ...Foolish Frog's steaks and chops.... Saltus- Wren and Breakwater , all 3 lovely and elegant for fine dining. And we have the Shrimp Festival in season.
For the athletic types - Running, Walking, and Biking are perfect with low country flatness. Great for cyclists ...there is an active bicycle club on the island. Golfers have a choice of five semi-private courses within 20 minutes of the cottage. (Our private courses are open to reciprocal members with a call from your Head Pro). And Hilton Head, just 45 minutes away, abounds with golf courses.
St Helena Island and the Low Country offer something for everyone. Call now for reservations. Gay friendly

We have stayed in the Lowcountry of SC many times, and actually lived in SC for 15 years. The beauty of this property is amazing. We were disappointed in the pool however. We were looking forward to a warm, pool that we could laze around in.....this was not the case. The pool, was pretty, and clean, but not heated and even though it was still August, we found we could not use it. This was very disappointing. We did enjoy the dock and seeing dolphin, and doing a little crabbing. We had a hurricane to watch while there, and when it rained, enjoyed shopping on St. Helena's, as well as Beaufort. We had a nice vacation, but would have had a great one, if the pool had been heated.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

Great location, nice cool pool, soothing breezes. Caught plenty of crabs daily, and alot of fish off the big dock, mostly trout. No bug problems as the breeze kept them at bay. Jo Ann was very cordial and full of useful info. about the area. Her "kids" were quite friendly, too. Loved Hunting Island Park, use that pass she gives you. Hope to make it back soon.....Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Enjoyed our stay so much! A great place, an accommodating hostess, wonderful scenery. Our kids had a blast! Plenty close to the beaches. We enjoyed the views of the marsh, watching the crabs and hanging out in the hammock. Thank you!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, families with young children.

I was looking for somewhere to really "get away" and this is the perfect spot! Jo Ann is an amazingly gracious hostess.... I was able to book this cottage 2 days before arriving and all was in order. The guesthouse is simple, yet comfortable and the views will take your breath away. Pictures just do not do it justice. I spent the majority of my time in he hammock over the marsh on the long dock, letting the constant breeze sway me into a restful sleep. There is much to be said for privacy when staying on someone else's property, and I felt completely at home here, even her pack of pups warmed up to me and my dog immediately. I will most definately be back! In fact, Jo Ann, if you ever think of selling this place, you should contact me first! It has always been a dream of mine to have a place like yours....you truly have found a slice of heaven here on earth! Thank you for everything!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers.

My husband and I just returned from a week at the Cozy Cottage and we will most definitely return to this spot. The most relaxing week we have ever spent... the double hammock on the long dock was a breezy nap spot, the private pool was wonderful, and the views and bird sounds were awesome. We took out two small dogs and they really enjoyed all the room to run, and also enjoyed JoAnn's furry friends. We ate out at the local restaurants and the food was delicious. Even writing about it makes me want to return!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing, people with disabilities.

We just returned from the Cozy Cottage a few hours ago, and we already miss it! Our dogs, Luke and Emma, are already missing it as well! We barely left the property except for a quick run out to the beach at Hunting Island State Park. Scott, Luke, Emma and I were perfectly content hanging out by the pool, enjoying the views, taking our daily "dock" walks, and getting to know Riley, Bubba, Jingles, Cammie and Ralph. I think we were outside about 90% of the time we were there. We loved talking with Mrs. Moore when she was home. The sunrise over the marsh was beautiful! Luke, our lab, enjoyed the pool A LOT! He couldn't stay out of it. We are already talking about a return visit. All four of us feel like we made 6 new friends, Mrs. Moore and her wonderful dogs!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

A very scenic, peaceful, low country setting - loved spending time on the docks. The cottage was perfect and we enjoyed the sweet dogs - what a life they have! Jo Anne was a great host. We only wished we could have stayed longer. We plan to return during our next trip south. Thanks, Jo Anne!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1992
About the owner: Presently working part time in a golf Pro Shop at a nearby Gated Community. Previously flew internationally as a Flight Attendant for 30 years with PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS. Also had a private pilot license and flew our 114 Rockwell Commander , along with my husband,to various locations for dinner , golf, and vacations. My life now revolves around my 5 rescued dogs (of various breeds) and the COZY COTTAGE. I do also have a rental unit in the North Carolina Mountains.
Why the Owner Chose St. Helena Island:
My husband and I retired from the Pocono Mtns of Penna to the Low Country of South Carolina where we enjoyed the golf and warmer weather. We bought our 2 acre property because of the magnificent old oak trees and marsh view. The home was a true low country design including a metal roof and then he built a matching guest cottage to accomodate our visiting family members. We loved the charm of nearby Beaufort and the proximity of Charleston and Savannah.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The luxury of privacy and quietness which is unique these days !!! The pool and courtyard area are for your use exclusively as well as the docks. Crabbing from the docks has been extremely good this year. If you have a boat there is a floating dock attached to the fixed perhead and a ramp is across the road for putting your boat in the water. Also I furnish 2 bicycles . and a pass for the beach at the State Park. Gay friendly
