Some of my favorite things: Watching a full moon rise over the ocean at night from the jacuzzi, Building a fire in the firepit on the beach, The time of evening around sunset when the ocean and sky turn a surreal shade of pink, Napping in the hammock in the gazebo, Lighting the numerous candles and dining only by candlelight, Late night swims in the pool, Alfresco dining on the deck, Glowsticks for the children on the beach, Watervolleyball in the pool with friends, Shelling after high tide.

Situated in the town limits of St. Augustine Beach, fenced and on three lots, this home is ideally located. Approximately 4 miles south of Historic downtown St. Augustine (no beaches there!) and within walking distance of restaurants and shopping, all attractions are convenient. There are many activities available that will appeal to everyone. To the north of us towards historic downtown you'll pass the St. Augustine Lighthouse and the Alligator Farm. In town, there are numerous attractions and a visit is a must. Among them, Castillo De San Marcos, the Fountain of Youth, Potter's Wax Museum, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Horse Drawn Carriage Rides, Ghost Tours, and of course the european charm of St. George Street with its shops and open air cafes.

Downtown is also the location of many festivals and concerts held throughout the year. Make sure to check out the websites listed below to find out what is happening during the time you plan to visit! If you head west you'll see the beauty of the intracoastal Waterway and St. John's River (one of the few in the world that flows north!), not to mention, for golf aficionados, the World Golf Village, with the World Golf hall of Fame and Imax theater.

Heading south (the drive is gorgeous in itself), there is Fort Matanzas, not as famous as the Castillo, but enthralling nonetheless as it involves a boat ride across the intracoastal. Marineland, the oldest theme park in Florida, is further south along A1A. And, finally, heading east, well, you have what brings most here, the beautiful Atlantic Ocean!

Back to the house! This is truly a special place. Almost every room in the home has a complete view of the ocean, most with an adjoining deck. With over 3,000 square feet of decks, large swimming pool, oceanfront gazebo, beautiful lawn, and outside jacuzzi with an amazing view, this is a perfect vacation home for families or several couples.

All modern appliances and almost every amenity you could want, this home has it all! Each room is decorated in a different motif, from the tropical with king-size bed, TV and VCR,small breakfast table, private bath, and outside jacuzzi. There is also the aloha room with a queen-size bed, and outside deck.

The lighthouse room has a queen-size bed, a coquina fireplace, tv & vcr, small breakfast table, and outside deck. The other two rooms feature trundle beds, one of which converts to a king. The surf room has easy access to the pool and is on the first floor. The children's room (decorated for the young or young at heart) has easy access to the west deck and has its own TV and VCR for your convenience. The living and dining areas are decorated in a casual Florida style and here you will find the second coquina fireplace. Easy access to the outside with double sliding doors and direct ocean view are additional charms. An outside gas grill and bar area make this an ideal home for entertaining.

Did I mention the beach? The beach was renourished in 2002 and is wide and sandy. Automobiles are not allowed and best of all you can walk directly from our yard onto the silky sand! There are no steps or walkovers, just you and the beach. Pets are NOT allowed, No Smoking. Rates are for up to 10 guests, additional charge for more than 10 guests. Rates do not include tax and cleaning charge. Special Events such as weddings have a surcharge. Pool can be heated for fee.

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes

This was our family home until 2000 when a business venture relocated us to the Suwannee River. A future venture moved us close to home: Welaka, Florida. We enjoyed and still enjoy the beauty of St. Augustine every time we are fortunate enough to visit!

The Unique Benefits at this House

The sweet smell of the surf, watching the sun and moonrise, the feel of sand beneath my toes. All of these things and many more make the location perfect!

Amazing House for Family and Extended Family - Thanksgiving Week

Guest: Judy (Melbourne Beach, FL / Virginia)
Date of Stay: 11/21/11 Review Submitted: 11/29/11

The House was only surpassed by the gorgeous weather that we had for Thanksgiving Week. Can't say enough about the Hospitality of caretakers - Rita and Bob - somehow the pool cover was put on the pool at night so that it was warm for those early morning swims. Family friendly house and the sound of the surf - walks to the Beachcomber at "Avenue A" for breakfast and the Pier at low tide - just can't be beat. Cafe Eleven for Sunday Brunch and St. Augustine for train ride through historic area wearing 3D glasses. Many special memories and a Thanksgiving to remember....

AWESOME location!

Rented the Finch house during Spring Break. My family of 4, 2 brothers in law, a sister in law, and father in law stayed at the house. More than enough room for all of us - didn't feel cramped a bit. The house is wonderful, and you can't find a better location on the beach. Used the pool, hot tub and fire pit. Had such a wonderful time, will rebook again!

Buyer Beware!!!

Guest: NZ (Atlanta, GA)
Date of Stay: 12/19/10 Review Submitted: 01/18/11

This was the second year of staying at this beach house and the property has not been well maintained. On our trip during the winter, the pool heater was broken and consequently our children were unable to utilize the pool. I recognize that issues pop up and no house can be perfect but when I requested some form of fair compensation for not having a pool for our entire Christmas vacation my request was completely disregarded by the owner Buyer Beware!!!!

Owner response:This guest originally requested an eight night rental. However, because I had a tentative booking that would overlap, I informed him that I could only rent for 7 nights. I also indicated that I had not received the deposit for the tentative booking and that if it should fall through I would happily rent him the other night. I provided a price quote for both 7 and 8 nights. I included a large discount because the rental was on short notice. Pool heating is an option that some renters, including this one, choose. However, the week before this renter was to arrive we discovered that the pool heater wasn't working properly and kept shutting off. I discussed this with the renter but told him that a repairman should be out on Friday (he was scheduled to arrive on Sunday). At this point, we also discussed the fact that the other booking had fallen through and that he could indeed come in on Saturday. The repairman did come in on Friday but discovered that he needed a part in order to make the repair. The part was order, but either the wrong part was sent or the wrong part was ordered but nevertheless the part that came in was not the right part. The part was reordered. To make a long story short, the pool heater was not fixed during this guest's stay. I certainly felt bad about this, as did our caretakers, who supplied him with free firewood and baked his children cookies. I though that refunding him the money he had paid to heat the pool (obviously) and not charging him for his first night would be fair compensation. However, when we spoke he asked for a large discount off the weekly rate. I, in turn, asked him about the extra day, and he replied that he had paid a fair price whether it was for 7 or 8 nights and in addition to the discount he was asking for I should also comp the extra night. As far as the house not being maintained, the above comment is the first time I have heard any complaint about maintenance issues other than the pool. In all of our correspondence and conversations, the only complaint this guest had was about the pool heater. Things do break, things do quit working. We try to repair everything in a timely manner and the pool heater was no exception. To say I disregarded his request for compensation is completely untrue. I did refund the money he had paid to heat the pool and I did comp him the extra night. I feel that I compensated them fairly and provided them nice oceanfront accommodations over the winter holidays at a fair rate.

Amazing Rental

We went with a group of friends for a small wedding celebration. The caretakers next door are super friendly, nice, and helpful! The beach access is pretty sweet because it's connected to the backyard. We stayed in one of the larger bedrooms upstairs with a beautiful beach view from the balcony...where there also is a spa! I definitely plan on going back to this house very soon and hope to make it a tradition because this house, the location, and just everything about it is wonderful!

Date of Stay: 08/24/08 Review Submitted: 09/09/08

This was a wonderful annual summer family vacation at this beach house, everything we wanted and more. Bob and Rita couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful, with the house and amenties as great. Weather cooperated and the overall experience was one we will repeat in the future. Thank you again Jessica and Kevin for the use of your house.
