Would Like to Stay Again

Guest: Penney (Havre MT)
Date of Stay: 01/13/11 Review Submitted: 11/26/11

We stayed at The Seastar last January (2011) and had a wonderful time. We came down to volunteer at a spay/neuter clinic and found the accommodations to be great and as advertised. Luther (the caretaker) was so helpful even when we arrived exhaused and late at night he took us out to eat, waited for us and brought us back. He is truly a 5 star example of island hospitality. David (the owner) was extremely helpful and accommodating. It was a great pleasure dealing with him. Now that we are coming as volunteers for the 2012 clinic, we anticipated again staying at the Seastar. Unfortunately, it is booked for the week we plan on staying. To the people who "scored" the Seastar for January -- congratulations and have a really great time. I know you will.

We stayed at Sea Star during a week in July 2011 and had a great time! The house was clean, comfortable and had a super view and location; beautiful water, great snorkeling and close to town! Enjoyed great food at Eddie's, Georgetown and Big D's Conch Spot, Steventon. They both have superb crack conch! Thanks to Luther for his hospitality.

Excellent Beach House!

My family and me traveled down in August of 2010 and stayed at this fantastic house. It was great for my two young boys because of the beautiful beach right off the back deck and patio. The beach is perfect for a family to swim, snorkel, sun, kayak or just sit and have a kalik! The house is completely furnished and a great set up for a group. It has a beautiful master bedroom that looks out over the sound with sliding doors and a wrap around huge patio. I can't say enough good things about the place and the locals here. They are truly wonderful people. We have already booked a return trip and plan to make Seastar our annual vacation spot. if you want a fantastic private beach, crystal clear water, abundant sea life and a quick convenient location to explore the whole area...this is your place.

Add Food and Drink and Just Sit Back!

IIf you’re looking for a perfect relaxing vacation spot – Seastar on Exuma is it! What a great place. I found Seastar a number of years ago when I decided to check out Exuma. I had heard so much about this island and I decided to check it out for myself. Seastar will more than meet your expectations it will make you want to come back time and time again. In fact, I recently returned from my 6th visit and am planning a 7th trip this coming November. Exuma is a great little island. The minute you land in Georgetown you will understand why you came to this paradise. The water is a color blue like you have never seen blue before. Crayola doesn’t even have this color yet! The people are very kind and are quick to help you navigate the island and answer any questions you might have. A few things that are must does on the island include: exploring every inch of it – by land and by sea!; renting a boat and getting lost on the coast line; trying your luck at fly fishing for bonefish; enjoying a party in downtown Georgetown; checking out the multiple Oceanside drinking establishments; and oh yea relaxing and drinking a Kalik beer or two, or three – you get the point. If you’re looking for bright lights, fancy hotels, expensive night clubs and wall to wall people – this is not your place. If you’re looking for a vacation place I call a tropical heaven. This is it! Enough Exuma public relations back to Seastar. This place is perfect. It is all and more than advertised. When you walk through the doors at Seastar you can’t help yourself from running over to the glass sliding doors, walking out on the deck and just getting lost in the blue sea. You’re standing literally 40 ft. from the water! After you grab your 4th Kalik – you get the point yet, you go back inside, turn on the CD player and flip a coin with the other couple you came with to determine who sleeps in the master bedroom and stares at the ocean all night. What makes Seastar such a special place is that it’s right on the sea. You can sunbath with Seastar provide umbrellas on the intimate beach line; safely wade out or snorkel the reefs that are right in front of you; anchor your boat; and launch sea kayaks from your front door step. You will find Seastar very clean, well equipped and comfortable. It’s a perfect base camp for your Exuma vacation. As I tell friends who have never been here - just add food and drink, sit back and let Exuma do the rest.

Relaxing island retreat

Guest: Tom (Dallas TX)
Date of Stay: 12/20/10 Review Submitted: 01/06/11

Spent 10 days around Christmas at Seastar. Excellent construction, very solid and quiet. Exactly as described on web site. Rooms are very large and spacious. Clean. The owner contacted me several times before we left and we had in depth discussion on things to do on the island. Everything at the house worked just fine, no maintenance issues. Seastar is directly on the water and has a very nice view to the North to Stocking Island. The main boat passage is directly in front of the house so we spent some very pleasant hours watching the occasional boat pass by (two sets of binoculars were provided). There is no beach at the house, but it is easy to climb down to the water and swim right there. A nice beach (Jolly Hall) is just a few hundred yards away. The location is excellent as it is about a five minute drive to Georgetown so easy to run out for quick supplies. The other common place to rent a house on the island is Tar Bay, which has a beautiful beach, but is much farther from town (15 to 20 minutes) so would require more planning of shopping trips. Kitchen is equipped with the basic things required (pots & pans, crock pot, coffee maker etc). Some basic spices were there (salt, pepper, garlic powder, lemon pepper etc) which is nice as it is hard to travel with all that stuff. Now, about Exuma: We have been there before and really love the island, but it clearly wouldn't be for everyone. In general the restaurants are not particularly good and are somewhat expensive (makes sense as ALL the food has to come in from Nassau). The exception is the fish which can be very good, but seems to be mainly fried (what they call cracked in the Bahamas). We did have some excellent cracked conch and lobster at Houseman outback in Mount Thompson and at Hailey's at the Fish Fry. Both were cheap, fresh and good. Houseman is a great place to spend the inevitable time waiting for the plane. It is close to the airport, right on a very beautiful beach and has good food and beer. An excellent place to while away a few hours. Our favorite beach is Tropic of Cancer on Little Exuma. Is is aways away (30 minute drive), but very, very pretty and totally deserted. Beautiful water and gentle surf. Large beach and very soft sand. Go past it to Williams Town and stop at Mom's for some rum cake - amazing!!! and makes incredible toast the next day. I would strongly recommend renting a boat from Minns for at least a couple of days as getting out on the water is awesome.
