Summer 2005 - Very nice family resort close to Colonial and Busch Gardens. I rented a normal 'fixed' week from Andrew/Shobana in Summer 2005 and it was great. I previously rented with someone else through Sunterra Club but that was a big hassle as they had an error with reservations and had to rebook the vacation for a different date. Uuuugh!

Very Pleased with the Accommodations

We were very happy with the accommodations in Powhatan Plantation. It was very roomy, spotlessly clean, and the beds were extremely comfortable. We loved the pools, especially the quiet, adult pool. The plantation home and grounds are very pretty. The location is excellent. It took only 12 minutes to get to Colonial Wmsbg and 16 minutes to get to Busch Gardens. We did get hit on by the timeshare people, but it's easy enough to say 'no thank you.' I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Owner response:Linda, So glad you had a good time. Williamsburg is a great destination with so much history and activities to do. I hope you got a chance to go to Water Country USA as well, Squidoo.com and many other sites listed it as the best water park in the world (or USA) ;-). We are headed back next week as a finale for the summer. --Karen and Andrew

Decent Stay, nice place.

Karen was very helpful and pleasant to deal with. Upon arriving to the resort it was very pretty. Didn't see many geese. The place itself looked nice. However, the service wasn't too great. After they realized we didn't want to sit through a timeshare speech (which they called a VIP invitation), they pretty much wrote us off. The staff really seemed like they could care less about their job. It took two days and 3 phone calls for the maintenance guy to come. The conceirge desk wasn't too helpful. The hot tub never got hot and the water looked dirty. There is no maid service. The air conditioner really didn't work great. It wasn't hot in the place it just didn't go to the temperature you would like and the refrigerator doesn't get too cold. They do have a washer/dryer in the unit but it takes about 3 cycles to get the clothes dry. I would suggest bringing your own laundry detergent bc they only give you enough for one load. The indoor and outdoor pool closes when they anticipate a thunderstorm and stays closed for up to an hour after a thunderstorm has occurred. However, once the pools were open they were very nice. My son enjoyed it a lot. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The scenery was nice. The baby pool is small. About 1 inch deep of water. We basically stayed in the kids pool and adult/kids pool. Never went to the adults only pool because we had our son. You do need your car to go to the pool unless you like to walk a bit. The snack/game room isn't up to date and has basically older games. For the price it wasn't bad but I don't see myself coming back because I wasn't too impressed. It kind of looked like things were falling apart everywhere and it was a bit outdated.

Nice family resort, good location in Williamsburg

Stayed at Powhatan in August 2009. 10 miles to Busch Gardens & Water Country, 5 miles to James town and 3 miles to colonial. The resort is BIG - more of a place for people with families than a quiet place for couples. We have 3 young ones so it was good. This is a value and not a ritzy resort. Accommodations were complete but not what I would consider luxurious. The staff can be a bit slow sometimes, we had to call in twice to get the internet service working in the condo. They seem a bit disorganized. Our unit was very nice, the resort seemed in good shape - I guess from some other reviews the ownership with Diamond Resorts had helped. Will return.

Overall great experience at Powhatan Plantation

These units are definitely well worn in and showing their age. We had several problems with our hot tub and washing machine. That said....we really enjoyed our stay. The beds were comfortable and the showers worked well. The facilities: pool, mini golf, concierge desk etc were all very nice. They had a ton of activities for both kids and parents, and it was close to all the area atractions. We would definitely return.

I stayed at Greensprings. The room layout and space was very nice. The walls were a little too thin. Not alot to do at the resort itself. They charge an outragious fee for internet usage in the rooms. The pools were dominated by loud and annoying people. Don't do the timeshare/"vacation ownership" deals

Stayed at Powhatan in summer 2007. Beautiful resort and wonderful time in Williamsburg. Karen is a real person that really answers the phone... The unit we rented was excellent. The ONLY thing that was not perfect is that the drive to Virginia Beach is about 1hr 15min - a little too long for me an the kids (especially with the kids!) Will rent from them again.

Great place for families. We stayed there during July 2005 and did the whole Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, Colonial Williamsburg thing. The resort is close to everything (15 min max) and 1 hour from the the beach. The resort has lots of kids activities (young through teenagers). Get the bottom unit with the jacuzzi.
