Our Vanderhorst Plantation beach house is in a quiet residential neighborhood behind the second security gate. It sits on a large, heavily wooded lot with a gorgeous lagoon view from almost every room. Spacious living areas with vaulted ceilings, heart pine floors and skylights make this 4200 square foot house bright, warm, and open.

Our home was designed for family vacations or groups of friends. Typical guests are either 3 families of 4 or a multi-generational family of 12. The layout is conducive to both easy living and lively entertaining. The hub of activity on the first floor is a large eat-in kitchen which adjoins the family room. Our pink and gray granite countertops remind you of the sandy beach which lies just minutes from the front door. In the middle of the kitchen there is a bar height island with 2 comfortable stools for those who want to kibitz with the cook. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, small appliances and a variety of utensils which will allow you to fix anything from a crab boil to Thanksgiving dinner. A starter supply of detergents for dishes and laundry, glass cleaner, a sponge and coffee filters are kept at the house.

The interior of the house is anchored by the Great Room, a space made light-filled and dramatic with vaulted ceilings and glass doors leading to the deck. We have a separate dining room which can make special occasions very special. The great room has a 65" rear projection TV and the family room has a 42" flat screen TV. Two other TVs/VCRs/DVDs complete your viewing pleasure. The great room also has a game table and a wet bar . The house has wireless High Speed Internet access.

The first floor master suite is a private paradise. The bedroom itself is a very spacious room with a king-size bed, dresser, desk, overstuffed chair and ottoman for reading, and a loveseat set in a bay window. Sliding glass doors provide direct access to the deck where two teak rocking chairs or a pair of comfortable chaises invite guests to relax and watch the activity on the lagoon out back. Just imagine the thrill of a great blue heron sweeping down to the edge of the lagoon to do a little fishing. The en suite master bathroom has a marble floor, an extra-large shower with built-in bench seating, a separate tub, and twin vanities set in white corian. The walk-in closet adjoining the bathroom is huge. In addition to having space for all your clothes, golf clubs and luggage, it can easily accommodate a crib. In fact, we keep a full-size crib and a high chair at the house. One of the four guest bedrooms (queen-size bed and full bath), a full-size laundry room, and a powder room complete the downstairs floor plan.

A wide deck overlooking the lagoon spans the entire length of the back of the house and includes built-in bench seating as well as outdoor dining furniture and a gas grill. A hot-tub is attractively tied into the deck. The fact that it's been placed in a shady spot makes it enjoyable year around, but it's especially delightful in late fall, winter, and early spring.

The second level of the house is one extra large bedroom with four twin beds and a full bath. This "dorm room" has its own TV,VCR and DVD player, a comfy chaise, and lots of closet and floor space. It's ideal for parents who want young children in the room with them or for families which include siblings, cousins, assorted friends, etc. who enjoy fellowship all day long.

On the third level, two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two twins, share a full bath. The twin room has a balcony overlooking the lagoon.

Debby, you have a wonderful home inside and out. There was plenty of space for all of us to have our “own space” and the common areas were large enough to accommodate our group especially the kitchen. We played two rounds of golf each day so the hot tub was a necessity at night! When we return to Kiawah your home will be first on our list.

Our experience was fantastic! Your house and accommodations were perfect, your proximity to the beach is quick and comfortable to get too and your house setting is secluded and private which provides a very relaxing atmosphere. We are a bit spoiled with the properties and travels we are blessed to be able to do throughout the years, and I must say you still over delivered and under promised. Thank you so much and it is our hopes you will have us back. Jeff and Johnel Searcy

Debby, Our family was very happy with the selection of your home for our family gathering in November. we all gathered for a family wedding. the living space was perfect, and Joey and i especailly loved the fabulous master suite so we could get away from the young adults who chose to stay up late talking. our small boys LOVED the dorm room and we were very happy they had it. we had extended family over one night for dessert and coffee and the dining room was perfect for that. the kitchen was big and had everything we needed. and the huge deck and hot tub----wow, if we were there in the spring or warmer weather we might never make it to the beach. thank you again for being so easy to work with. you made us feel very comfortable without inundating us with rules . you lovely home and the spacious areas made us feel welcome and it was easy to care for. thanks again. we look forward to another visit. We stayed in this house in May 2010 and it was spacious, clean, excellent location, with a fantastic kitchen area. Our family had plenty of room to spread out...love, love ,love the large room with 4 twins. The house was beautiful and the island is unspoiled with abundant wildlife. I would stay again in a heartbeat! I highly recommend! We really enjoyed the beaches and biking all over the island. Wonderful owner provided us with very helpful information. Thanks!!

Great Vacation!!

Our family of 6 adults and 3 children had a marvelous time during our recent stay on Kiawah. As others have stated, the pictures do not do justice in conveying what a spacious home this is! Our grandsons loved their room, delighting in being able to go off to their own room with television and space galore. The crib came in handy for our granddaughter (yes, the closet off the master is huge -- bigger than a lot of bedrooms!). Our family loves to cook, and we appreciated all the dishes and cookware available for our use. The back deck is wonderful to sit on after a long day at the beach (even though we didn't see the resident alligator in the lagoon). Debby is a delight to work with, always available for any questions we had, and very organized in getting back to us with contract, etc. This house is a steal -- easy bike ride to the beach. We plan on returning as soon as we can!

We have a long history of gathering our large family (age 7 to 91) to spend an active week together at the beach. This was our third vacation on Kiawah Island and our second time in this home.  In our experience, this home ranks at the top of our list of places for groups of 6 to 12 people.  It's obvious that the owners put much of the rental income back into their property. Since our previous visit they’ve upgraded and improved the kitchen, the furniture, the mattresses, the décor, the landscaping and the televisions. The living spaces are arranged for comfort and conversation:  those of us who value a quiet conversation can talk in the family room, on the deck or in the kitchen while others watch a giant TV in the living room.  As the photos show, this home has been extraordinarily well cared for by the owners.  We’re fortunate they share it with others.

I put together a group of 12 women for a long tennis weekend in February 2010. First of all, let me say that I felt that the value for what we received was outstanding! The house is spacious and built for entertaining. The kitchen is large and well-equipped. There are plenty of seating and dining areas for a large crowd. It is a beautifully decorated and immaculately clean property. The jacuzzi was a real plus after a long day of tennis. Also, the owner is such an accommodating and easy- to-deal with person. It was just a pleasure and I look forward to the opportunity to rent your beautiful home again in the future! Highly recommended!

Debby, we just had a wonderful family reunion at your house on Kiawah Island. The house was perfect for 11 adults and three small children. We loved watching all the birds and deer around the lagoon and enjoyed walks and bike rides on the beach. The little shopping village nearby was fun for lunch and shopping, not to mention the old fashioned soda fountain for ice cream. Being history buffs we also had time to visit some of the interesting sites in Charleston. If anyone visits at Christmas I recommend seeing the light display at James Island County Park.

Debby, We had a fantastic time at Kiawah and your house played a great part. We were very pleasantly surprised by how nice your house is (the pictures don't do justice to how large it is nor how nicely finished it is). We loved the large deck overlooking the lagoon, where we could watch all of the wildlife. Though our weather was mostly warm and sunny, we also enjoyed the hot-tub at night. We were there with 2 small kids and several adults and there was LOTS of space for all of us. In fact, my 3 year-old daughter got the second floor bedroom to herself and she loved putting one of her dolls or teddy bears in each of the 5 beds in her room. The crib and high chair were also appreciated by my 18-month old son.We arranged bike rentals in advance, on your recommendation, and they were waiting for us when we arrived. The short, but very cool, ride to the beach over the footbridges was a highlight for everyone.Too bad we had to leave after just a few days I suppose there is always next year…Thanks again,Doug
