My wife and I loved this cottage. As you have probably read in other reviews, it is a secluded haven, though surrounded by other houses, you feel totally private. It is a beautiful restoration, with lots of character and attention to detail. The moment we walked in, we knew how fortunate we were to have rented this place. Everything was very clean, well maintained, and the kitchen was perfect. The evening we arrived, we walked across the street to the beach (hardly a one minute walk at most) and watched the sun set into the Pacific. The location on the dry side of the island was really appreciated, as we were there when most of the other areas of the island were having lots of rain. It is a really convenient base for exploring Waimea Canyon and the mountains, as the access road begins less than a mile from the cottage. There is a lot less traffic in this area of Kauai, which contributes to the sense of a relaxed vacation. We give it our highest recommendation for those who, like us, prefer not to stay in a resort or busy area.

My husband and I spent the last few days of our honeymoon here and it was magical! This place is so incredibly cute and cozy, and is within walking distance to the ocean. We enjoyed several nights of beautiful sunsets and took advantage of the kitchen by cooking breakfast each morning and enjoying it out on the front porch! The cottage is fully equipped with all you may need to head to the beach (which we did for several days in a row)...including beach chairs, umbrellas and beach mats! Both Pam (the owner) and Sarah (the on-site contact) were incredibly responsive and not only would we recommend this place to anyone planning a trip to Kauai, we also hope to return again and again! Thanks for helping to make our honeymoon so special!

Wow! What an amazing stay we had here at the Kamewile Plantation Cottage! It was a total dream. My fiance and I came to Kauai to elope and were looking for a quiet place that was also picture perfect. We found it all at this charming remodeled plantation cottage. First off I must note that this rental is fully equipped....everything we needed right down to toiletries, sunscreen, beach chairs, coolers, etc were already here at the rental. We of course bought our own before we arrived but it is nice to have a closet full of things that you may need just once or twice (like bug spray). We spent our mornings going for a run around the surrounding neighborhoods, having breakfast out on the lanai among the tropical gardens in the VERY PRIVATE yard. We never once even used the indoor shower because the outdoor shower was amamzing.......how can you pass up a shower with witht he sunshining down and the Plumeria blooming right next to you! For daytime activities you are close to Waimea Canyon with amazing visat views and jungle hiking.... a short drive takes you to the white sandy beaches of Poipu. One of the greatest gems in the area was Friday nights in Hanapepe. Make a reservation for dinner at Hanapepe Cafe and get there early to walk around the town and view all the local art vendors and visit the galleries! Dont forget to have the carrot cake at Hanapepe Cafe which is to die for!! The kitchen at the cottage is great if you want to cook up a gourmet meal and enjoy it garden side. We spent many nights just lounging at home, cooking, drrinking wine and playing some of the games that were at the cottage. I would say that this is the ideal place for a romantic getaway for those who want to be close to amenities but slightly off the beaten patth. We have been to Kauai several times before but always stayed on the South shore.....we will be staying on the West shore from here on out! We have absolutely no complaints what so ever about the rental......our only suggestion would be an upgrade for the table on the lanai....everything else is so beautifully decorated and cute . Cant wait to return next year for our anniversary!

This property met our expectations for a rural and restful Hawaiian experience away from the tourist scene. Pam is very responsive. The cottage is very comfortable. The outdoor shower is magical. Arrive at Lihue early enough to get groceries. We hit the Saturday Farmer's Market at the community center. Waimea is very close and has adequate supplies. Traveling around Kaua'i was easy and leisurely. It was great to come "home" to quiet Kekaha. We evacuated for the tsunami generated by the earthquake in Japan. Review your emergency plan upon arrival. The cottage is near the end of the road. I certainly would recommend the cottage and would return.

We nicknamed the Kamewile Plantation Cottage "Our Gecko House". We were the guests of a community of Gekcos that lived in the flowers and around our front porch. It was indeed a good luck house for our stay on Kauai. The cottage far execeed our expectations based on the information posted on the web site. It was imaculate and decorated in a true plantation cottage way. I lived on Kauai in the Poipu area before the EVA and INIKI devistated that portation of the Island. We chose Kekaha because of the sunshine and the still small town Hawaiian way that remains instead of Poipu and the huge resort development that sprung up since the hurricanes. We were not dissapointed. Our Gecko house was the perfect location. A quiet peaceful place to come home to after visiting the beaches and the canyon. We rented a Jeep which I strongly recommend for anyone who wants to explore the area. The weather was warm and sunny, big surf days and calm days, and a perfect place to just stay home and kick back and wait for the sunsets when we were tired of going. The BEST of everything. If you want to see the North side of the Island I would recommed staying a day or 2 on that side, then the rest of your visit at the Kamewile Plantation Cottage. Aloha!!

Awesome, Awesome place. We never showered indoors the entire time. The outdoor shower was great. Very private. Loved the big windows. Owner was very helpful in providing us with ideas for grocery shopping and places to see and things to do. If you are staying a week or longer, go to Costco. Times Market prices weren't bad either. Beer prices the same as mainland for the most part. The only disappointment was I thought there would be more condiments. That would be a plus to know there is plenty of salt, pepper, coffee etc. We would definitely recommend this place and would do it again. We did a helicopter ride with Blue Hawaiian. It was great. Think the operator could have been a bit more informative. Seemed a bit burnt out. Can't say enough about Kauai Kayaks. Kelly, our guide was so funny and so informative. Highly recommend the kayak trip to Secret Falls. Holo charters snorkling was good but long. Wouldn't recommend deep sea fishing unless you know for sure the fish are biting. Waimea Canyon was really cool. Go all the way to the top and do the hike. All in all great beach time at Poi pu and Salt Pond, A must go to place is Jo-Jo's shaved ice. Had an absolute wonderful time, Can't speak more highly of the area. Loved the island. Thank you so much for sharing your island dream cottage.

We really enjoyed our stay in your cottage and hope to be back there in the future. It was exactly what our family was looking for and we are sold on using VRBO on our next vacation. The location was perfect as it was so close to our favorite beaches near Polihale State Park. After our day at the beach, we looked forward to coming back to the cozy, quiet cottage in time for the sunsets. Pam, thank you for letting us stay in your home.

My wife and I celebrated 10 years and the New Year this winter at Pam's cottage. It was a fantastic stay and we agree with all the praise that you can read from other guests. We felt that our week went too fast. But it helps to stock up at the grocery store and fill the kitchen. We savored our time by making meals and eating on the Lanai. We packed our back packs with lunches and enjoyed the easy access to all the great hiking. Loved the cottage! Thanks Pam.

We stayed at the cottage with another couple from Jan 16 - 23, 2010. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about the cottage - from the sound of the ocean to the roosters crowing in the morning. The beach across the road was incredible and gave us the most amazing sunsets. The cottage was very open and comfortable - I don't think I have ever slept in a more comfortable bed. My husband loved the outside shower. We would highly recommend this beautiful property to anyone wishing to stay on the West side of Kauai.

One month ago, as we shivered in 57 degrees below 0 (Fahrenheit) weather (second coldest reading on the globe that day) I fantasized about being instantly transported back to May 4-10, 2009--our few days in paradise at the Kamewile Plantation Cottage in Kekaha, Kauai, Hawaii. We two couples thoroughly enjoyed the charming, clean, comfortable, well-equipped, tastefully decorated accomodation. We used the lovely home as a base from which to explore the spectacular beauty of Kauai, from nearby Kekaha Beach and Waimea Canyon to Ke`e Beach (as far around the island as roads allowed). The cottage cupboards revealed ample up-to-date tourism information and the local managers, Steve and Monica (next-door year-round residents) were most gracious and helpful with all of our requests for assistance and advice. We loved the Kamewile Cottage and were most impressed with the service we received. If we are fortunate enough to visit Kauai again, we'll be sure to book the Kamewile Cottage.

I have to say that it was the Aloha Spirit that brought me to this Awesome Place (Kamewile Plantation Cottage). When I found it on VRBO, I just knew that I had to go to Kauai to stay there. I was delighted from the second I pulled up and even more excited when I walked through the front door. The home is very charming & comfortable with everything you need. I just loved the privacy this home offers along with the sounds of the waves crashing, the colorful sky and warm tropical trade winds. The landscaping is beautiful too!! I look forward to returning to this darling plantation home, and when I do.... I will make sure I get to stay longer. This is a "Must Stay" at place !! I think that my vacation to Kauai was one of the best vacations that I have ever been on. Mahalo Pam for sharing your wonderful beach cottage with all us Beach Bums looking for the perfect place to enjoy!! I look forward to returning again, and when I do... I plan on staying a bit longer. Your cottage is perfectly stocked and so comfortable (there's even an iPod dock and a rice cooker!). We could couldn't ask for more (ok...maybe a few more nights). Good Aloha spirit brought freshly picked papaya and left it on the lanai. Thank you again! -Kirk and Beth

Without giving too much away to those of you anxiously awaiting your visit at Kamewile Cottage...even with all the beautiful vistas and exciting adventures Kauai has to offer, the best time we spent was on the lanai, listening to slack key guitar and the ocean surf, enjoying some local beer, with our feet up in the sun and a tropical breeze in the palms. Paradise.

Aloha Pam, Thank you for sharing your wonderful cottage with us and making our first visit to Kauai a wonderful experience in November 2008. We couldn't have imagined a more restful, peaceful home base. It was very cool to get up in the morning and bring a cup of coffee out on the lanai, feel the warmth of the sun and hear the surf and birds. I love to cook and did so every evening we were there, except for our last night when we dined out at the Beach Restaurant in Po'ipu. The kitchen was so well equiped, I didn't have to 'make do' at all. I noticed when we got home that you had called our home phone (saw it on caller ID) on Tues. 11/11. I think we were probably enjoying a Corona out on the lanai about that time after our kayaking/hiking trip. We've already decided we won't wait so long to return to the island. Our visit exceeded our expectations!!

Comment Text: My husband, son and I spent 3 wonderful weeks at Kamewile Plantation Cottage and absolutely loved it. The location couldn't have been more perfect. My husband loved having a great surf break within easy walking distance and our son loved stopping at JoJo's Shave Ice in Waimea every day. The cottage itself was immaculately clean and beautifully furnished. We enjoyed many mornings breakfasting on the lanai and many evenings star-gazing and listening to the ocean waves. We have stayed in many vacation rentals around the world and all of us agreed that Kamewile Cottage is our favorite. Pam, mahalo for everything! We will definitely return to Kamewile Cottage!

We stayed at Kamewile Plantation Cottage for a week in April, 2008 and fell in love with the cottage and Kauai. The cottage is wonderful and very private. We could here the ocean at night. We stayed in the cottage March 30 - April 5, and I can't say enough wonderful things about it! The little house is so cozy and beautifully decorated, plus the kitchen has everything you would ever need. We loved being so close to the beach, and walked by the water every day. And after a busy day of sightseeing (or just lying on the beach), it was great to come home to such a calm, quiet beautiful little retreat. Visitors to Kauai should be sure not to miss the beach at Polihale, and stop in Waimea for JoJo's shave ice - yum! Thanks for sharing your special retreat with us, we would highly recommend it to everyone we know (except we would also like to keep it our special secret!). Mahalo, Pam!!

My son and I stayed at the Kamewile Cottage while in Kauai of 8/2007 and had a great time. It has a very well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, handy out-door shower, spacious bedrooms and a feeling of cozyness as it is nestled away from the street. We loved coming home from a day of exploring Waimea Canyon, shopping, sightseeing or swimming to such peace and quiet. The beach is just a few houses down and is very clean and practically deserted. We enjoyed collecting shells, coral and playing in the waves. What beautiful crystal clear aquamarine water! My son talks about how much fun we had and how much he enjoyed staying at the cottage, I know that we are going to enjoy those memories forever.

The Kamiwale Cottage is perfect for a great relaxing vacation. About 45 minutes from the airport, the time it takes to get to the cottage really doesn't seem to take that long because of all the scenery and small towns along the way. The whole week while my husband and I were on our honeymoon, it never rained - even when rain would be falling about 15 minutes away and on the other side of the island. The cottage is tucked away among other cottage style homes and at night you can hear the waves crashing while you lay down on a comfortable bed with the windows open. The decor in the house is so perfect and the kitchen is great - everything we needed was there. Looking at all the pictures again online, I wish I was still there. The beach is literally right down the street and the road to Waimea Canyon is probably about 1-2 miles away. My husband and I were a little worried when we arrived because we had forgotten all of our Kauai travel guides, but we found so many resources and books at the house. Thanks! I would definitely stay here again - and hope to - maybe on a future anniversary trip.

This cottage feels so cozy and comfortable. My husband and I spent the first 5 days here of our 10 day vacation celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. It really couldn't have been more perfect for us. We loved the feeling of being far from the maddening crowd!!! And the cottage had everything we could want, there was not a thing we needed, it is so fully equipped. There were a few small local grocery stores in close driving vicinity. We absolutely loved the beach and really the only ones that used it were the surfers, we walked a long way on the beach and only saw the surfers. It was so very relaxing and peaceful. It is a perfect get a way and yet only 30 or 40 minutes driving to go to the "city" sites. Thank you Pam for letting us stay there, you did an outstanding job of decorating, we were very impressed, it was so unspoiled,a perfectly renovated plantation cottage.

What a wonderful getaway cottage! Our friends were so envious when we shared the vrbo web link prior to our 5-day stay, but I had to tell them it was even better than it looked from the pictures. This is, by far, one of the nicest vacation rentals we've stayed in. The caretakers were close by and greeted us with a freshly picked mango from the yard. We loved the decor, and the oh-so-dreamy king-sized bed! The location on the south end of the island was in perfect contrast to our previous 5 days spent in Hanelei Bay. We highly recommend this cottage for a dream Kauai vacation.

We spent a glorious week the beginning of November, 2006 in this quaint village. It was quiet and restful, listening to the breeze in the trees and the surf on the beach. The house was wonderful, bright and cheery, newly renovated and sparkling clean. Meals were easy in the well equipped kitchen and outdoor grill. Eating was a pleasure on the lanai, being out in the fresh air, surrounded by trees and flowers, listening to the birds. Sunrises and sunsets were spectacular across the street on the beach. Being a fly-fisherman in CO. I took the challange to fish the ocean, a few steps from the cottage every morning. Back in time for breakfast and off for the day sight seeing! Great location! Can't wait to return to this paradise!

The perfect paradise cottage! My husband and I spent four amazing nights and didn't want to leave. We can't wait to return. The minute you drive up and see the bright cottage through the hibiscus and ginger plants your dream get away begins. One feels immediately at home and peace. Beautiful hawaiian decor and all the amenities for staying in and trips to the beach. We walked for hours on the beautiful beach that is just 2 minutes from the cottage. Dolphins were jumping in the surf.Waves every shade of blue crashed on the shore. If you enjoy hiking, Waimea Canyon is nearby and the fantastic snorkeling around Po'ipu is any easy drive. This is the best the island has to offer. Unique beauty away from the crowds.

My new husband and I stayed at Kamewile cottage for our honeymoon in early November. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect honeymoon! The cottage was immaculate and very true to the online photos. The kitchen was very clean with newer appliances, very comfortable to cook in. We cooked most meals here. The bedrooms are very comfortable. We slept in the king bed which has a nice firm mattress. The weather in Kekaha is fabulous, even in November when the rainy season is supposed to start. We had sun everyday, when other parts of the island were wet. The location is great for a quiet experience, yet not far to sights, some restaurants, and grocery shopping. We still woke to the islands alarm clock (roosters) every morning, but it was easy to acclimate to. Neighbors are quiet and respectful. Finlly, the sandy stretch of Kekaha beach made us feel like one of the locals! We were aware that we'd have to mind the waves and currents. But, we just kept an eye out for where others were swimming, and never felt unsafe. See you again sometime for our anniversary! Colleen and Rudy Millian

My wife and I chose the Kamewile Cottage for our honeymoon and had an incredible time. Everything from the platation decor to the bright red ginger flowers in front set the mood and made us feel right at home from the first minute. We were able to take in the beach anytime we wanted (including some breathless sunsets), and enjoyed eating our dinners on the lanai almost every night. All the necessities and a lot of extras (such as beach gear or the outdoor grill) were there, and we wanted for nothing. We are already thinking about our return next year. (PS. We initially worried about being so far out of the way in Kekaha, but it worked great, especially for hiking up in the mountains or heading to the amazing Polihali beach. And no rain to spoil any plans.)

We took our 5 week old daughter on holiday the first of March 05 and found the cottage to be the perfect escape for us and her. The cottage is beautifully decorated and is the perfect size for a family of 4 or 2 couples. We ate all our dinners in, (the kitchen is well furnished)and watched the sunset from the front porch. It took us 2 minutes to walk to the beach and about 10 minutes to get to the grocery store by car. This is a perfect spot in paradise need we say more.

My husband and a friend and I stayed at the cottage recently and had a fantastic time. The cottage was beautiful and comfortable and conveniently located across the street from the beach where we watched many sunsets. The cottage is really nice, extremely well taken care of and everything in it is good quality, down to the beach towels. If we ever go back to Kauai (which we will), we will definitely stay in Kekaha and stay at Kamewile (if we can get it!). We loved it and highly recommend it.
