Our charmingly furnished house with traditional Hawaiiana decor provides all the comforts of home in the world's most spectacular setting on Kauai, the 'Garden Island' of Hawaii. You will seldom need your car after arriving as charming Hanalei village is within walking distance with its excellent restaurants, lively night spots and shopping. Only a block and a half away is the world famous, crescent-shaped Hanalei Bay, ranked by National Geographic Traveler as one of the top ten beaches in the world.
Hanalei can only be reached over a series of quaint one-way bridges and is never overwhelmed by tourists. It is the home of many celebrities and famous writers and is noted for its amazing scenery and lush vegetation.
House is limited to four. We have a queen bed in one bedroom and a king in the other which can be divided into extra long twin beds for a small charge.

'I just wanted to write to say what a lovely time we had at Hale Lu Ya. Great location, comfortable beds, good kitchen. We hope to go back again soon. We have been looking for a place like this in Hanalei for a few years, and I think we have found it. Great surf, too.'

Aloha! The house Hale Lu Ya in Hanalei Bay is the perfect place for a Kauai vacation. The house is so cosy and comfotable that we immediately felt like being home. It was perfect for 2 couples with plenty of room. The beautiful beach is only a few meters away and you are in a perfect location for trips over the island or the famous Kalalau Trail. Everything was perfect and we will be back. Mahalo!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

According to the previous reviews, this house is quiet and has views of the waterfall out the windows. Not the case. The "sister" house of this was booked with multiple families and babies. We could hear all conversations and baby cries throughout the night. I wouldn't stay here if the Taj Ma Hale is rented as it feels like a duplex. There is no parking for this house either, you must park on the street so be sure not to have valuables in car. 1. No views. 2. Not quiet. Our two reasons for staying here.Owner response: Dianne, thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to share your experience. As you mentioned, some of our guests have indeed posted glowing reviews on VRBO mentioning a quiet home with mountain and waterfall views. Please understand that we are unable to alter the content of the reviews that have been posted on VRBO in any way. We have never promoted views as one of the amenities of Hale Lu Ya on our own website or on our VRBO listing. Waterfalls are sometimes visible from the house and lanai, and most of our guests are delighted with the tropical garden surrounding the house. However, plants grow very quickly in Hanalei, and the neighboring landscaping has obscured some of the views of the mountains and waterfalls that may have been visible previously. The views from the windows pictured on our listing and website accurately depict what a guest might see. As for the noise you experienced, we wish we had been told about this during your stay so that we could have communicated your concerns to the neighbors. We strictly limit the number of guests in both houses and remind all our guests to keep noise to a minimum out of respect for our neighbors. The homes in Hanalei are within close proximity to one another. Most visitors appreciate the neighborhood feel of Hanalei and understand that there are often families visiting with children. Fortunately, folks generally make an effort to respect their neighbors' enjoyment so complaints such as yours are infrequent.

Our family of four just spent a week at Hale Lu Ya! (July 27 - Aug. 3, 2012) and our experience was outstanding. The cottage is well appointed, clean, comfortable, and most important of all, in an ideal location. This cottage comes as advertised - - - - perhaps even undersells itself. Located a block and a half from Hanalei Bay and two blocks from the historic town of Hanalei, you just can't find a more ideal spot. We were within walking distance of some of the best restaurants on the island, and could look out our window and see the tallest waterfall on the island. The best part is you don't feel like you are near a town at all because there is no noise. Great spot from which to explore the entire north and east shores and take a boat trip to the Na Pali Coast. If you can't enjoy your stay in Hanalei, check your pulse. Not only do I recommend this house, I plan to stay here again myself if the opportunity arises.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

My partner and I stayed at Hale Lu Ya for 2 weeks in November and will definitely return. We've been to Kauai many times and have always stayed in Haena and this time wanted to stay in Hanalei. It's the perfect Hanalei location: close to the beach and an easy walk to town where there's an abundance of dining choices. The house is beautiful, well maintained, quiet and had everything we needed. It was so peaceful sitting on the lanai every morning, having coffee and enjoying the mountain views. Two "must do's" while in Hanalei: happy hour at the Gourmet and ice cream from Pinks! You cannot go wrong with this rental!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Gene, thanks so much. Hope to hear from you again!

A GREAT vacation home!!!!! The outdoor shower is our favorite being contained for privacy. The towels are luxurious and plentiful. The location to the beach and village is all within walking distance along with being in a secluded cul-de-sac. The only addition recommended would be an outdoor light on back lanai for grilling.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, pet owners, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so much! We did fix the backdoor light!

This was out second time to have stayed here. Each of our vacation stays was for 4 weeks each and wish it could have been longer. My family and I loved this place. Walking distance to one of the the most scenic beaches in the world and to the town of Hanalei itself. The house was spacious, clean, maintained well, and in a scenic setting. I remember when we walked into the house for our second stay it was like we had come back home. If my daughters had their way we would spend every summer here. I would highly recommend staying here.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children.
Owner response: Greg, thanks so much. Look forward to renting to you and your family again!

This is the fourth year that I have stayed at HaleLuYa. Unlike all other annual trips, I return to this house because of its perfect location, complete furnishings, and the great customer service from the owners and their agent. The house is at the end of a dead end street so traffic is minimal. My two favorite parts of this house are the large deck on the back overlooking a greenscape with birds and flowers that is perfect for morning coffee drinking and the bedroom in the back that is exactly like sleeping in a treehouse, minus the mosquitoes! Hanalei Bay (the best swimming on the island) is a couple blocks away which is close enough for a quick walk but far enough away that you miss the traffic from other tourists. Beds are very comfortable and appliances in the kitchen are way more than adequate for farmer's market vegetables for dinner. The plentiful windows down and upstairs allow island breezes and the smell of the jungle-like foliage throughout the house. I unequivocally recommend this vacation rental!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so much, Pat. I will always do my best to make Hale available to you!

We scored ten days at Hale Lu Ya (cute name!). We've been renting in Kauai for years but agree that this is one of the best rentals on the island. Very comfy. It felt like home right away. Owner was prompt and great to deal with and house was as described on website. Rental did not have "cookie cutter" feel and all was clean and sparkly on our arrival. Don't be surprised to hear from us again. Cheers.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
Owner response: Mike, thanks for the nice words. Please rent with us again!

Our upcoming trip to Kauai will be our fourth stay at the Hale Lu Ya house. It is the perfect place. Its quaint charm, quiet neighborhood, plantation decor, and good vibration leave us hesitant to sing its praises--everyone will want to come! Two blocks from the most beautiful beach in Hawaii, and a quick walk to town make its location perfect for the active vacationer.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Karen, thanks so much. I will do my best to make sure Hale Lu Ya is always available to you!
