"I just wanted to write to say what a lovely time we had at Hale Lu Ya. Great location, comfortable beds, good kitchen. We hope to go back again soon. We have been looking for a place like this in Hanalei for a few years, and I think we have found it. Great surf, too."

The Perfect Hanalei Vacation Rental

Guest: Gene (Oshkosh, WI)
Date of Stay: 10/29/10 Review Submitted: 05/14/11

My partner and I stayed at Hale Lu Ya for 2 weeks in November and will definitely return. We've been to Kauai many times and have always stayed in Haena and this time wanted to stay in Hanalei. It's the perfect Hanalei location: close to the beach and an easy walk to town where there's an abundance of dining choices. The house is beautiful, well maintained, quiet and had everything we needed. It was so peaceful sitting on the lanai every morning, having coffee and enjoying the mountain views. Two "must do's" while in Hanalei: happy hour at the Gourmet and ice cream from Pinks! You cannot go wrong with this rental!

Owner response:Gene, thanks so much. Hope to hear from you again!

Enjoy Best Outdoor Shower!!!!!!

Guest: Ke'e (Wellesley, MA USA)
Date of Stay: 10/09/10 Review Submitted: 02/13/11

A GREAT vacation home!!!!! The outdoor shower is our favorite being contained for privacy. The towels are luxurious and plentiful. The location to the beach and village is all within walking distance along with being in a secluded cul-de-sac. The only addition recommended would be an outdoor light on back lanai for grilling.

Owner response:Thanks so much! We did fix the backdoor light!

A Great Hanalei Vacation!

Guest: Greg (South Carolina)
Date of Stay: 06/09/10 Review Submitted: 02/10/11

This was out second time to have stayed here. Each of our vacation stays was for 4 weeks each and wish it could have been longer. My family and I loved this place. Walking distance to one of the the most scenic beaches in the world and to the town of Hanalei itself. The house was spacious, clean, maintained well, and in a scenic setting. I remember when we walked into the house for our second stay it was like we had come back home. If my daughters had their way we would spend every summer here. I would highly recommend staying here.

Owner response:Greg, thanks so much. Look forward to renting to you and your family again!

Hanalei by the Bay!

Guest: Pat (Seattle WA)
Date of Stay: 04/15/10 Review Submitted: 02/07/11

This is the fourth year that I have stayed at HaleLuYa. Unlike all other annual trips, I return to this house because of its perfect location, complete furnishings, and the great customer service from the owners and their agent. The house is at the end of a dead end street so traffic is minimal. My two favorite parts of this house are the large deck on the back overlooking a greenscape with birds and flowers that is perfect for morning coffee drinking and the bedroom in the back that is exactly like sleeping in a treehouse, minus the mosquitoes! Hanalei Bay (the best swimming on the island) is a couple blocks away which is close enough for a quick walk but far enough away that you miss the traffic from other tourists. Beds are very comfortable and appliances in the kitchen are way more than adequate for farmer's market vegetables for dinner. The plentiful windows down and upstairs allow island breezes and the smell of the jungle-like foliage throughout the house. I unequivocally recommend this vacation rental!

Owner response:Thanks so much, Pat. I will always do my best to make Hale available to you!

Great Stay in Hanalei

Guest: Mike (Duluth, MN)
Date of Stay: 01/02/11 Review Submitted: 02/06/11

We scored ten days at Hale Lu Ya (cute name!). We've been renting in Kauai for years but agree that this is one of the best rentals on the island. Very comfy. It felt like home right away. Owner was prompt and great to deal with and house was as described on website. Rental did not have "cookie cutter" feel and all was clean and sparkly on our arrival. Don't be surprised to hear from us again. Cheers.

Owner response:Mike, thanks for the nice words. Please rent with us again!

A little piece of Heaven

Guest: Karen (Gig Harbor, WA)
Date of Stay: 02/05/11 Review Submitted: 02/05/11

Our upcoming trip to Kauai will be our fourth stay at the Hale Lu Ya house. It is the perfect place. Its quaint charm, quiet neighborhood, plantation decor, and good vibration leave us hesitant to sing its praises--everyone will want to come! Two blocks from the most beautiful beach in Hawaii, and a quick walk to town make its location perfect for the active vacationer.

Owner response:Karen, thanks so much. I will do my best to make sure Hale Lu Ya is always available to you!

Seven days in paradise

Guest: Tim (St. Paul MN)
Date of Stay: 11/01/10 Review Submitted: 02/05/11

Clark, thank you for a wonderful stay at Hale Lu Ya, but you undersold the house. It met all our expectations and more and the location was ideal since the last thing we wanted to do on our vacation was drive. My wife especially liked being able to wash off sand in the outdoor shower after a day at the beach. It was all so relaxing. The only thing missing for me was a margarita machine and a flat screen t.v. It was hard to leave but we do plan to come back.

Owner response:Tim, thank you for your review and for staying with us. No margarita machine yet, but since your stay we have added a nice flat screen t.v.

Does Not Look Anything Like Pictures!

Guest: No Haleluya Here! (California)
Date of Stay: 05/22/09 Review Submitted: 04/20/10

Very average stay, screen door always came off when it was opened, fan broken, floors not clean and main bathroom not cleaned well. VERY dark inside with dark walls, most utensils did not work and had to purchase a can opener. Basic items are severly run down, even kitchen plates needed washing before used. I will not come back and stay here nor would we recommend this place. *Notice there are no comments - there's a reason!

Owner response:We are sorry if there were some minor maintenance issues at this house during your stay but wish that you had contacted us immediately about them instead of letting us know about them after your stay. We would have been glad to take care of them all and if there was something our housekeepers missed, they would have come back in a minute to take care of the job. Most of our guests are delighted with this house, find it especially clean on their arrival and know that it lacks for nothing in terms of the comforts and amenities of their own homes, and that is why we get the same guests year after year. The owners stay at their properties a few times a year and make sure that all items are in good shape and working order and will replace them when they have to. They do not skimp. Both our housekeeper and our contractor live in Hanalei and if we had been made aware of the screen door and the fan, they would have taken care of those issues right away and with a smile. We were all surprised to get a negative response like this, the only one in the nine years I have been managing this property. We wish you a happier experience on your next vacation.
