The apartment in Nakano was awesome; really close to the station - super enjoyable walk through the neighborhood and through Nakano Broadway - some super interesting stores around (Don Quijote!), and good, cheap and quick restaurants nearby. Property was clean, and apart from some trouble with the fold-out bed initially (thanks, Makoto, for coming back to help us with that!), we had no troubles during our week in Nakano. Great customer service! I'd definitely return again, and our stay has convinced me that were I move to Tokyo, Nakano would definitely be the top neighborhood to consider. I just wish there were more places to grab a quick crepe before running to the station!

It's been several months since we visited, but I realized today that I had never written a review and they definitely deserve one. This is both a review for the apartment as well as Makoto-san. We flew to Tokyo the day of the major earthquake earlier this year and arrived the day after. Things were, understandably, hectic and many services were shut down. We were luckily able to find an alternate train to take us into the city since the main Narita Express was not in service. Makoto-san had been working and waiting for us to arrive, even through all of the service disruptions, and was able to meet us and get us settled into the apartment that night. He had been up for a very long time and we can't express how grateful we are for helping us. Quite frankly, I would only expect this kind of hospitality from very close friends and he went above and beyond to be there for us when we arrived. We honestly can't express how much this meant to us. Sadly, because a lot of services around Tokyo were offline or had interrupted service (most museums, some local trains, the shinkansen, etc) to conserve resources and most of our vacation plans had been cancelled, we decided the best thing to do was to not waste resources for those who needed them and to head home. Our families were also very worried, so it only made sense. We wound up leaving after only a few days into our trip. Makoto-san was very easy to work with in making sure we were able to get out of the apartment quickly. We tried to leave it the same as it was when we came and I hope we did so. The apartment itself was extremely nice and in great area. Because we were trying to conserve resources for everyone else by not taking the trains when we didn't need to, we got to explore Nakano fairly extensively and were very happy. The shops around the apartment were very fun and hospitable and offered a lot in the way of experiencing Tokyo as it is experienced by the residents who live there. We can't recommend this apartment enough and, I would assume, any of those that are managed by Makoto-san and his company. While we were sad to cut our stay short, we will without a doubt be returning. We weren't able to do most of the things we had planned, but it truly was a life changing event even in those few days. Hopefully we'll be returning in the very near future (we're already planning a return trip) and will be meeting Makoto-san again! -James and Teya Miller

The place is very clean, efficient, and conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood, still very close to a metro/JR station and with lots of small restaurants around, as well as a food supermarket. I'll stay at this place again for sure.

This is an amazing city Makoto how lucky you are to be living in it. We feel like we have only seen a little of it though - there's so much to see and enjoy. Thank you for all your help. It's been fantastic staying in the apartment. We love the area and all the people - the Japanese are truly friendly, helpful and happy people. What a lovely world it would be if every nation was like the Japanese. Will be recommending Live in Asia to our friends and on my website, so I hope you get some bookings in the future.

It is a great location to experience the Tokyo life, close to supermarkets and shopping center within walking distance. Made the trip with my wife and stayed at the Nakano 1 bedroom apt. The living space is a little tight with only a full size bed to sleep on, but the amenities provided by the owner was great. If I do visit Tokyo again, would probably seek a slightly bigger living space.

Situated in a quiet local area, this is not for the hen-party get-away type of holiday. Great location for lots of cheap and really good restaurants. Close to local supermarket with late opening hours. Close proximity to train station with easy connection to the main JR Yamanote Line. And close to Nakano Broadway, the place for Otaku in the know... you won't find this one in the tourist guides. Also a great place to find cheap shoes and clothes. The flat itself was very clean and well-equipped with kitchen, washing machine, ironing facilities and TV. Also comes with internet connection for your own laptop, but no Wifi. The bathroom was fully stocked on soaps and towels, just bring your toothbrush. Only thing to flag is the bed, while long enough, is fairly narrow. This is not a problem if you don't mind cuddling up with your partner, but otherwise it may be an idea to make use of the additional futon service on offer. A final word should go to the agents who provided excellent service from the initial contact through to the final farewell. Thank you very much. All in all we can only give this flat our warmest recommendations.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Nakano studio apartment for 6 nights in Feb 2010. It is conveniently located at Nakano, one stop to the west of the Shinjuku station. The apartment is cozy, comfortable and quiet. It has all the modern facilities, TV, high speed internet, air conditioning, toaster oven, microwave oven, coffee maker, stove, washing machine, hair dryer, iron, refrigerator, cooking and eating utensils, etc. We thought only a woman would be so thorough in the planning of the apartment. The apartment is close to the Nakano train station. Next to the Nakano station is a big shopping center and two major supermarkets. We managed to get everything we needed there. Of course, we cannot say enough good things about our hosts, Mac Makoto Kuno and his staff. They were always available and attentive to our needs. We were most pleased with our accommodation and we will definitely recommend this place to anyone who consider visiting Tokyo.

What a wonderful place to stay for the first portion of our vacation in Japan! We loved how convenient this was to all of the major sites in Tokyo, the supermarket open until 1 AM nearby, and how spacious this was compared to what we would have paid for the same price in a Tokyo hotel. Everything we needed (and then some) was here and Yosuke couldn't have been more helpful during our stay- greeting us at the station, helping us when we couldn't figure out the heating unit after our very long flight, and just being an overall wonderful asset during our time in Tokyo. Only one (very minor) complaint is that after booking our room (but before we paid) the price of the rooms went down and we were not allowed to adjust our overall bill to reflect the cost difference. Otherwise, terrific stay and perfect host! Thank you for everything Yosuke!

My husband and I stayed at the Nakano apartment in November and December 2008. It was the best vacation we've ever had! The apartment was wonderful and had every amenity we needed. We were especially pleased that we had our own washer and high-speed Internet access. The location of the apartment was so convenient. It is in a quiet, comfortable neighborhood yet just a short distance away you could go to the Nakano Broadway or take the subway to any one of Tokyo's other neighborhoods. Makoto was a wonderful help to us. He gave us a lot of information about the neighborhood and helpful tips for how to use the rail system and the Suica cards. We had such a wonderful experience that we are definitely planning on coming back for Summer 2010! :)

My husband and I stayed in the 1brm apartment for only 4 days in October, it could have easily been more. Everything about our stay was great. Contact with Makono made getting there very easy, he he was also very generous with his time and information for us. The apartment was a pleasure to stay in, so much better than a hotel. After long days getting around Tokyo it was lovely to have our own place to come home to. The supermarket nearby was bonus, wondering through looking at all the Japanese ingredients, love the variety of mushrooms.I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have a bit of an authentic stay in Tokyo.

I found this apartment to be an interesting slice of life in Japan as it is situated next to local households within Nakano. While Nakano is nothing spectacular and offers no amazing sights or shops it does brim with life at night and you can catch the locals enjoying themselves with a few beers while still wearing their dapper suits. Due to the fact Nakano isn’t a tourist destination you are unlikely to find many people who speak English but we found this made the experience all the more exciting. Sitting down for a meal when you’re not even sure what food the restaurant makes is certainly an experience I will always remember but on that occasion both sides were amused. Sukiyaki is amazing for the record. The apartment itself however was rather basic and the facilities were lacking. The DVD player only worked for Japanese DVD and we were shocked to find that the apartment contained only one double bed as opposed to two single beds. This meant we were forced to pay an extra 3,000 Yen (about £20) for the use of a basic futon. With the Futon on the floor next to the bed there was no space left in which to actually move in the bedroom/living room. Drying clothes is also an arduous task since the dirty balcony doesn't get much light during the day and there is no tumble dryer. Overall I would say for the price this property is acceptable but the picture and description can be somewhat misleading

I stayed here for almost 2 weeks with another adult and a 12 year-old child. I had been to Tokyo before and stayed at a hotel in Shibuya, but I must say that staying in this apartment was such a better experience. Makoto was amazing - he met us at the Nakano station and walked us to the apartment (which was only about 5 min away). He answered all of our questions and even showed me where I could find a yummy veggie restaurant. The apartment has everything you need to be comfortable and feel at home. And having the washing machine is a huge bonus. The area itself is incredible - loads of shops and restaurants and a great grocery shop on the walk from the station to the apartment. And the public transport system is easy, safe, and super accessible. You can get anywhere you want to go with ease. I am already planning another trip back and will definitely stay here again.

The apartment was well-equipped and located in a great area. Nakano has an abundance of shops & restaurants, but is quieter than other parts of Tokyo. Rail connections are excellent, both towards Tokyo and westbound (a trip to Lake Kawaguchi to see Mount Fuji took just over 2 hours). We appreciated Makoto's hospitality very much and he answered our questions extensively. We would highly recommend this apartment and will definitely be back on our next trip to Tokyo!

2 adults and 2 children (11, 13) stayed here for 1 week. Had a great time. Makoto was very helpful, he picked us up at the station and dropped us off. Location was very convenient. The condo was clean and the washing machine was especially helpful. My son liked the television. The 7/11 downstairs was handy to get money from the ATM. BTW there is an inexpensive sushi place in Nakano about 5 minutes away called Standing Sushi Bar, north exit from the Nakano Station. Would highly recommend staying here. Will be back next time I am in Tokyo.

Great place to stay. Far better than the rate you will get at a hotel and there are washing facilities, kitchen, etc. It is nearby the train and plenty of shops and eateries. Makato is very helpful. He provided maps and made suggestions of places to go. He even brought a gift upon my arrival. The unit is cleaner than some hospitals I've seen and I'd definitely recommend. I went in Oct 2008 and plan to go again in April 2009. Arwann

Our family of four (which includes 2 teenage boys) stayed at the Nakano property for a week while on vacation last August 2008. Our experience was extremely positive and Makoto was a very gracious host and resource during our stay in Tokyo. The apartment was comfortable and within a short walk of the train station and other amenities. It was located in a quiet neighborhood and we felt safe during our entire stay. We plan on returning to Tokyo soon and again staying at the apartment in Nakano--hopefully it will be available for us!

The rental experience was very positive. We were greeted at the Nakano metro station and walked a short distance to the rental property. A helpful welcome package included information about the metro system, the rental amenities, and local events. My wife and I found the rental's size and amenities (stove, refrigerator, shower/tub, toilet, bed, table, television, etc.) to be very comfortable. We would highly recommend this Nakano rental to anyone planning to vacation in Tokyo.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Nakano apartment for about 2 weeks - what an incredible experience! We immediately fell in love with Tokyo. Staying in the apartment was very convenient and comfortable. Great location and privacy - it provided us with a much needed place to rest from walking around all day or dancing all night! Makoto is an incredibly helpful host. He made all the transactions very simple and straight forward. Knowing that he was around to give us guidance or help whenever we should need it was very comforting. The apartment came with all sorts of gadgets, but the washing machine especially was a lifesaver! Thanks again Makoto!! Give us a shout if you ever come to Vancouver! Kat and Keith

The aprtment is small but perfect as a base for exploring the city, and is only a couple of minutes from the station making it quick and easy to hit either the overground or underground easily. Makoto was fantastic and extremely helpful, the information he gave on events during our stay was great and used to full effect :) We would definitely recommend and will hopefully be using again in the very near future!

Our 2 week stay in the Nakano apartment was the best vacation we've ever had. Makoto was very friendly and extremely organized and helpful to us during our stay. Nakano is a great neighborhood with lots of places to eat and shop, and it's very easy to get to other parts of Tokyo using the JR train lines very near the apartment. I would recommend this stay to anyone who is visiting Japan. Our favorite part of Nakano was the Broadway Mall (part of the Sun Mall), with 4 floors worth of a toy collectors dream. Thanks, Makoto!

Four of us recently spent a week in the Nakano apartment. Makoto warned us beforehand that the place would be too small for more than three, but there were two extra futons in the closet and we only used the place to sleep, so we found it perfect for our needs. The best part about the apartment is that it's close to the attractions of Tokyo yet in a peaceful neighborhood, making it an appealing place to return to after a long day of exploring. Many thanks to Makoto for all his help!

We will definitely be staying at the Nakano apartment on future trips. The apartment is clean and cozy. We loved the fact that there was a washing machine and a kitchen. The apartment is extremely near to the train station and there are so many shops, bakeries, restaurants, izakaya (bars), etc. in the area. Plus there is grocery store on the way to the apartment in case you need to pick up any necessities. Makoto-san provided us with all the travel directions from the airport to Nakano Station where he met us to escort us to the apartment. He provided us with a lot of helpful information (maps, etc.) and was available by cell phone or email if we had any questions. We can't wait until our next trip!

My husband and I stayed at the Nakano apartment in mid April 2008. Contacting Makoto upon our arrival and him meeting us at the Nakano station all went very smoothly (especially for our first trip to Japan!) Makoto showed us the way to the apartment explaining the area to us on the way. He showed us how to use things in the apartment. The apartment was nice and clean with all the amenities you need. We took advantage of traveling light by using the washing machine and then hanging clothes out to dry. This apartment is in a great location. Only a short 5 minute walk to the train station and then you can get absolutely anywhere in Tokyo and beyond. We had rail passes and used them all the time. There are hundreds of restaurants nearby as well and a good sized grocery store. We enjoy the convenience of renting vacation apartments and feel they are much more cost effective than hotels. Makoto came to the apartment for our departure and we told him of all our travels! A very nice guy indeed. Then we headed out for our week in Kyoto. All in all, a great vacation in Japan.

I stayed at the Nakano apt for 4 nights in May 08 and was very happy with my stay. The apt was spotless and had the convenience of an internet connection, a washing machine and detergent, all kitchen appliances you could need, and even towels and shampoo! The Nakano metro station is next to a shopping mall and an area with numerous cheap restaurants. The apt is a few blocks away from the busy district and is very quiet at night. Makoto was extremely helpful and informative, and was accessible by phone throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this apt for 1-2 persons. It was a nice alternative to staying in a hotel and felt like home.

For up to 2 people this is an excellent place, an easy to get to location without the constant noise of other parts of Tokyo. Prices around the building are also very reasonable with a good enough selection. Makoto is super nice & helpful. We spent a few nights here at the beginning of April & we were satisfied with everything. Another great thing is that there are small courtesy things in the apartment that are provided here (not so at other places): dishwasher liquid & other kitchen items. They would cost a lot to buy & not to be used up during the stay. We highly recommend the place.

My brother and I stayed at the 1 bedroom apartment during the New Year holidays and we couldn't have had a better time. Makoto was super helpful in getting everything prepared for our stay, including providing a futon for my brother to sleep on, and his responses to my emails or telephone calls (I live in Japan) were always done in a timely fashion. If you are staying for a few days, I would follow Makoto's advice in purchasing a SUICA card for the subways and trains, it saves you the hassle of buying tickets at every station and it's easy to refill with money. I will be making another trip to Tokyo in the near future and I am definitely going to stay at the apartment over a hotel, it's affordable, convenient, and the location is great.

I recently spent 9 nights in the 1-BR apartment and highly recommend it. Nakano is a vibrant and charming neighborhood. As many others have noted, the streets around the station and near the apartment are buzzing with activity and convenient shops and eateries, yet the apartment itself is on a quiet residential street. Nakano’s location just one stop from Shinjuku is excellent for getting around Tokyo. The apartment is just as described and pictured – convenient location, spotless, and well-equipped with everything for a comfortable stay. It’s compact but worked well for me as a single traveler. Would be tight for two; couples may prefer one of LiveInAsia’s larger apartments. One practical reminder for North American guests: Bring an adapter plug if you’re bringing any electric/electronic appliances. Japanese outlets are 2-prong.Makoto provided an excellent tourist info packet and orientation to the neighborhood, and was extremely helpful from beginning to end. Thank you, Makoto and LiveInAsia, for a wonderful stay. This apartment will be my new “home in Tokyo,” and I’ll be back for another visit!

We stayed in Nakano for one week. The apartment is as described on the web site. It is small but very clean, comfortable and very well equipped. We were greeted by Makoto who gave us a detailed description of all appliances and how things worked, this was really great as we didn't have to guess. There was also detailed instruction. He was very helpful and very cordial. It is very easy to get to once you have your bearings from the station. We got good advice from Makoto prior to our trip re NEX Suica card (card purchased at Narita, similar to London Oyster card) and this save us a lot of time and hassle on the Train. The apartment was very well equipped down to iron, sewing repair kit etc. We hope to stay there again.

Japanese outlets are 2-prong. Makoto provided an excellent tourist info packet and orientation to the neighborhood, and was extremely helpful from beginning to end. Thank you, Makoto and LiveInAsia, for a wonderful stay. This apartment will be my new “home in Tokyo,” and I’ll be back for another visit!

My brothers and I spent a week in this Apt. We have nothing but good to say about this Apt, Japan, and Makoto. Our vacation was for 2 weeks, and the first week we spent traveling from city to city. On a side note, I would advise all travelers: PACK LIGHT! There will be lots of train stops and transfers with no guarantees of escalators or elevators. The veteran traveler usually caries a backpack on wheels, and while that is not probable, a carry-on with wheels is the smart way to go. We packed suitcases that were slightly larger than carry-ons and they were the bane of our vacation. Anyway, the apt was located in a quiet residential street. The neighbors were friendly and nice to talk to, and there is a bustling little mall near the train station. The actual apt was meticulously clean and spacious. Makoto patiently met us at the train station, and answered any and all questions we had. Additionally he provided us with pamphlets that had maps and highlights about the city. We would definitely stay here again and recommend first-timers and veterans to stay here. You will not be disappointed!

We really enjoyed our stay in this apartment. Makoto gave a fantastic orientation of the location surrounding the apartment and its features. Nakano is only one hop away from Shinjuku and made it very convenient to get to the main train station. There is also a wide variety of shops and restaurants in the Nakano area and even a mall so staying there is comfortable. We had a great trip there and hope to return when we can!

What a wonderful place to stay. Having lived in Japan several years ago in a variety of conditions, I wasn't sure what to expect. But the apartment was beautifully kept, perfect for a vacation stay, and surprisingly convenient for metropolitan Tokyo. The apartment is buried in a quiet neighborhood, but many stores and (really good) restaurants are located a few steps away. The staff members are full of useful information for first-timers and are the kindest of hosts. I consider myself fortunate to have found this service, and will DEFINITELY stay with them again.
