4BR Adobe Home with Pool, Sandia Heights, 360 Degree View
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
We rent our once and future retirement home out by the week or month. The home is located at the foot of Sandia Mountain above Albuquerque. With a pool that commands both city and mountain views, our Casa is the perfect-size (four bedroom) and place to vacation. Relax or roam! We are minutes from the Sandia Tram and minutes from one of New Mexico's seven Wildlife Reserves.
There are mountain hiking trails (through the arroyos) a very available biking and jogging trail to to say nothing about being just ten minutes from a Starbucks, Barnes and Noble and great restaurants. We also have Trader Joes nearby and a Whole Foods in the area. The setting is high desert (eight to nine degrees cooler than Albuquerque), one hundred yards from the surrounding national park and Indian lands. (The Pueblo of Sandia).
Quail, roadrunners, foxes and a vast array of songbirds can be heard in the deep silence. The Indiana lands enclose sacred sites (They also run a casino) Just 45 minutes from Santa Fe, Casa Griffin is 20 minutes from the Albuquerque airport and minutes from the Sandia Peak Tramway, the world's longest aerial tramway (skiing, spectacular setting, nice restaurants at the Peak) Albuquerque has Indian markets year round, and is host to hot air balloons, the University of New Mexico and other cultural attractions. It has also become one of the more popular golf destinations.
Besides visiting the many pueblos in the area, many day trips are available, such as visiting the natural wonders of Tent Rocks at Cochiti Lake (run by the Cochiti Pueblo) and Acoma America's Oldest Continually Inhabited City.
If you are travelling with children or grandchildren, Albuquerque has an amazing children's museum and aquarium (with a cafe that one can sip cokes and have grilled cheese or hamburgers while watching sharks and stingrays and many schools of fish! ) and an enchanting children's garden (complete with castle!) at their botanical garden.
The tramway up the mountain(Sandia Peak Tramway) is also an exciting trip for kids, unless it's balloon fest weekend, when the crowds make for one and two hour waits for the trip to the top. Good restaurant at the top. A fine Mexican restaurant below is a nice place to meet or wait for those taking the tram up the mountain.
Fully equipped including two mountain bikes, high speed internet access if you have a laptop. Guest account available for checking email on our computer. No pets. Pool available mid May-October. Please do not inquire for any period less than a week. It is a home to settle in if you are looking for a place to come home to after a day of adventures and activity.
Or it is a comfy place to relax and just be in nature. It is also a place that writers have rented to work on their next mystery! Although our home sleeps eight, our normal rental is four to six. Best for a family, two to three couples, three to four golfers! We have four bedrooms. Two bedrooms have queen beds, two bedrooms have two twin beds. Our ideal rental is four to six guests. Although we do have the ability to sleep eight, in reality and ideally your party will have an infant or a child! four singles or two to three couples! We now list our home as sleeping six, we have two queen beds, and four twin beds. Because of the footprint of our home, we can most easily accomodate six adults, and a couple of kids under nine.

The perfect place for a family gathering. The home is just as advertised. We had plenty of space and everything we needed to get comfortable, prepare holiday meals, and open gifts. And there was a separate room for completing jigsaw puzzles and playing board games. Views of the city lights are absolutely awesome! And the property is just far enough off the beaten track that we weren't bothered by traffic noise. We were there during a cold snap, so the pool wasn't usable and the fish pond was frozen over. It was very nice to be able to use the garage. We loved it!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: We so enjoyed having your family stay over the holidays. The winter solstice seems to be a perfect day to start a visit. Happy New Year!

We had a fantastic stay at this rental. The owners were very welcoming and updated us on all the important information needed to enjoy the home. The photos fully represented the home and its amenities.. We tried several nearby attractions, grocery stores and restaurants that were recommended by the owners. All were more than satisfactory. I would recommend this rental to anyone seeking a truly glorious vacation.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers, age 55+.
Owner response: What a lovely group of guests. We are so pleased they enjoyed our home as much as we did--and that they also got out to some of our favorite spots. A thank you card with little notes from each friend tickled us as much as these nice comments!

This was a perfect vacation retreat in one of the most beautiful settings I've ever seen. The city and mountain views are phenomenal. It was a joy to just look out the windows. We saw hummingbirds, hawks (Merlin Hawks?), quail, rabbits. It was fun to feed the koi. The house itself is gorgeous, spacious, comfortable, and completely stocked with just about anything you might need. There were hundreds of delightful little touches that made our stay very special. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+.
Owner response: Thanks so much for this lovely review. New Mexico is indeed the land of enchantment and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Casa Griffin!

Lovely home in a spectacular setting. We started each morning with a long walk through the nearby paths along the Sandia Mountain foothills, and ended each evening chatting by the pool or watching the hummingbirds on the patio. The nighttime view west to the city below is magical, as is the view east to the mountains and stars. (The patio was ideal for watching the Perseid meteor shower before sunrise on our first full day). You can see both the city and mountain views from the picture windows in the living room. The house itself is bright, clean, modern, and comfortable, with southwestern arts and crafts here and there - a treat for us Easterners. The kitchen is wonderful– with all the cooking/dining supplies needed for an elaborate supper or a quick breakfast before heading out. A perfect jumping off point for visiting Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Petroglyph National Monument, Bandolier, Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks and everything else the area has to offer. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: We so enjoyed having you as guests. You have made us realize how much we enjoy the spaces around us! and why we find the area magical.

We decided to celebrate our family reunion in New Mexico this year and selected Casa Griffin as the place for us to rendez vous with family from Pennsylvania, the Bay area and Europe based on the description and the photos though the reality was even better. Everyone loved their stay there, the teenagers spent all their free time by the pool and as a result were charming company and the rest of us congregated at the house after our daily excursions. The pproperty was really well maintained, the house is beautifully appointed and furnished and was laid out so we all had space to be together and privacy when we wanted it. Beautiful views from the decks of the New Mexico mountains. The kitchen was really well appointed with everything a guest could want or need and there are even mountain bikes for us to use. We loved the location, away from the downtown area, with a feeling of being out in nature yet close to the freeway. The owners were very helpful including proving us with lots of helpful information before we arrived. We are already talking about coming back and would recommend this jewel of a place to anyone who is thinking about coming to New Mexico with a group of friends or family to spend and is looking for a relaxing and beautiful place to stay.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers, age 55+.

The location is great. Close to Tramway Blvd so you have pretty quick access to both I-40 and I-25. The house has fabulous views of the city and great views of the mountains. You are also only about 5 minutes from the tram. The yard and pool are completely fenced so there was lots of privacy. The pool was crystal clear and the auto cover kept it clean when the wind kicked up (we only had it uncovered when we were using it). We had 4 adults and 2 teens in our group and there was lots of room for everyone. TV's with dvd players kept the teens happy. Two bikes were available in the garage, but we just walked the neighborhood and used the paved trail along Tramway. Starbucks was only ten minutes away too. The kitchen had lots of room and the appliances all worked great and there were plenty of utensils and cookware. Bathrooms were clean, towels provided, sheets clean, beds made when we arrived. There were even beach towels for the pool (we brought our own because we didn't know). There were also lots of notes on how to use thermostats, regarding food in pantry, etc. It made us feel more at home and less like we were intruding. We loved the house and we look forward to staying there on our next trip to Albuquerque. Try the tram, visit the zoo and the aquarium and the botanical gardens. Nob Hill and downtown have some great places to eat.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers.

Set in the foothills , Casa Griffin is the perfect location to launch and enjoy your stay in ABQ. Having been a frequent visitor, the home offers all the amenities, that make our stay enjoyable. The accommodations are bright and cheerful , in a mix of contemporary and southwest decor, pride of ownership glistens. There are updated bathrooms and a chef's kitchen, where you can prepare your meals for either indoor or outdoor dinning, in a resort pool setting, overlooking the Sandia mountains, coupled with panoramic views of the city, and of course the noted New Mexico sunsets. The comfortable home layout, separates privacy of the sleeping quarters, with great view decks, from the common gathering areas, both in and out, for socializing and outside chats. A quiet foothill setting, often lends itself to views of the local wildlife, the occasional call of coyote an Alpine feel, as local tram scales Sandia Peak , all combined with the changing pastel colors. Convenient, comfortable with great accessibility to the various outdoor venues. to a casual, out the backdoor, hike in the Sandia's, many golfing opportunities, and day trips, Casa Griffin offers a couple, family or foursome all the comforts of a well appointed home for a relaxing vacation or special family gathering, highly recommended !Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+.
Owner response: I don't know how we missed responding to this wonderful review. We consider our home a comfortable get away and do so appreciate it when others return a second and third time. We have always seemed to attract just the right combination of people who love nature, love to be active but also appreciate cozy time outs on the patio or around our pool!

We enjoyed a month's stay at Casa Griffin in July 2011. Everything was very clean and comfortable, the pool was refreshing and the views from the garden were beautiful.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, age 55+.
Owner response: We are sorry we didn't know we had the opportunity to respond to the kind words that guests have left about our site. The feature that matches our words to the precise guest review seems to be not working. This responsegoes with the review submitted August 15, a very lovely family, who we enjoyed having visit.

This will be our third straight year in returning to "Casa Griffin". The reason: it's all the answers to a "dream" vacation and getaway. Regrettably, there isn't enough room to write a review that gives "Casa Griffin" justice. So; just take our word for it that it has everything and more. Impeccable home, phenomenal views, a pool to die for, eventful activities nearby, great eating places, so on and so on. Amazingly with all of these amenities, you're still isolated enough to enjoy the utmost of privacy. We dearly hope the owners will allow us continually to rent on indefinitely.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: We are sorry we didn't know we had the opportunity to respond to the kind words that guests have left about our home The feature that matches our words to the precise guest review seems to be not working. This response goes with the review submitted March 11 2011, this couple has returned now three times. They leave everything more spotless than their arrival! clearly they love the home as much as we treasure them as guest.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Although we purchased our home as a retirement home, only one of us is actually retired. At the time we purchased our home, it was the perfect Southwest distance between our two sons and their families, one in St. Louis and one in LA. The Sunport, Albuquerque's airport is an easy airport to get in and out of, in these days of heightened security lines, ease of arrival and departure is welcome. Here we are on a boat, The Fortuna in Turkey. One of us is a sailor. Both of us drink coffee.
Why the Owner Chose Albuquerque:
At the time we purchased our home, one of us (known to friends as Dr. Barista) was traveling regularly for family business in Texas. He often flew into Albuquerque and visited and stayed with friends in Sandia Heights. After a couple of years, although their generosity would have been extended, one time when his friends were out of town, he wandered on his own in the area and found a perfect home. Too perfect not to put an offer on, even though I was in Sedona that week looking for a home that would be near our family on the West Coast. By summer, we had closed. It was bought, without me even seeing it. I loved it the moment I walked in..not the house as much as the space, the views, the mountains. We both, although we have always lived on water, love the Sandia Mountains.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Fantastic views. This last year we build a new porch along the four bedrooms so now we have quite literally views from all directions. Some friends have rented for a month at a time because they are looking to retire in the area. The area is very serene, our neighbors are very private but it's not a gated community, so its very much like a modern day pueblo. Incredible vistas, wonderful hikes, deep quiet. And yet, very close to Santa Fe and city life in Albuquerque. We do host a number of golfers (we like four) and we've had wonderful comments from most of our guests (our only complaint was that our refrigerator opened from the right and they thought it should open from the left)Dr. Griffin's secretary handles our contracts. We don't use the current guestbook because we started with an earlier company which sold to the current company. Someday we will post all the nice comments we have received on our website our favorite was from a young family that wrote 'It's our last night in Casa Griffin and we don't want to leave!' and then went on to say they forgot to put out the garbage , oh well, their charming calligraphy note did the trick because thats how we feel,(and I although I have two masters degrees in Education, spent many years as a calligrapher) much as we love our Coop life on Lake Shore Drive life in Chicago and active life at the opera, symphony, theatre and restful weekends in the Indiana Dunes, there is nothing like the high desert and the mountains. We always feel so elated that we are coming home.....and it helps now that there's a Trader Joes and Whole Foods nearby! We have loads of reference books in our little sun room library, maps etc. a do your own concierge what to do and where to go spot and of course guests also add to our stash. It's a really simple city to fly into. We like Southwest, we travel a lot, Galapagos, Turkey, Guatemala and next Bhutan! we find Albuquerque's Sunport airport is one of the easiest.
