Why the Owner Chose Massanutten Resort
Three of our four grandchildren live in Harrisonburg. We found ourselves visiting Harrisonburg at least once a month and we always stayed with our son and his family. When their third child arrived five years ago we knew staying with them just wouldn't work. We needed more room as a family especially when our other two children, their spouses, and our fourth granchild came to visit. So we built a home large enough for our frequent family get-togethers.
The Unique Benefits at this House
There are so many things to do and see in the Massanutten area that none of our family ever gets bored. Whether it's hiking in the National Forest that abuts the Resort, or Skyline Drive just a few minutes away, or skiing or tubing in the winter, or using the pools that are available, we all have fun and get a chance to RELAX. The views from our upper deck are spectacular, whether it's the ski slopes in the distance, the golfers on the course below our deck, the sunrise that creeps over our home in the morning, or the sunset that slides below the mountain across the valley. If you want to unwind, this is the place.
University of Virgin and Thomas Jefferson's home at Monticello are about 45 minutes away.
The entrance off Route 33 is only about 20 minutes away. You'll also find rafting on the Shenandoah River in Elkton on the way.

Our family had a wonderful weekend together in your beautiful home! We loved the set up of the home and it was perfect for accommodating our large group. The owners were great with working with our group including late check out to accommodate all of the children wants the day of our check out. The home had many different games to entertain the group and the area is full of activities to keep everyone happy including skiing, snowboarding, horseback riding, ice skating or spending a day at the water park (all of which some or all of us took part in). We would love to come back to Massanutten and stay in this home again! Thank you Carol and Marty!

When we arrived on site, the property was immediately recognizable from the pictures and description in the ad. The driveway is steep and the street number sign rather dark, so that took a second glance to verify we were at the correct place. For the family arriving after dark, they called to make sure they were at the right place, but eveyone arrived at the proper street and were very close. There was adequate parking on the street across from the driveway - our family consisted of seven grandchildren over 21, all driving a vehicle, which made for alot of parking a necessity. The parked cars can have no wheels on the street, but even the big SUVs were able to park easily. I had been in touch with the owner by phone prior to our stay, and she was very open to answering my questions and providing information I needed. She was very thorough and I especially appreciated her help allaying my concerns. Inside the home we found it to be clean and very orderly - everything was available that we needed for cooking and the comfort for a total group of 28 (the overflow stayed at the Massanutten Hotel and joined us during the day). The attention to detail for anything we might need was great and welcome as it saved extra trips to the grocery. The beds were all made and ready for our crawling into with plenty of fresh /clean towels under the bathroom sink. There was extra toilet paper in each bathroom and bath wash provided. There were plenty of folding chairs provided as well as cable T-V (also a necessity on New Year's Day!). There was a closet full of toys and games; even the younger great-grands had plenty to keep them occupied. The owner had decorated the home for the Christmas Holiday which added to the festive and welcome feel. Our only suggestion is perhaps having an alarm clock in each of the bedrooms - there was only one clock in the kitchen and we are a TIME conscious family and we were lost without clocks to check! We would recommend this home to our friends, acquaintances, in fact everyone for consideration. The owners are friendly, accommodating, and the price is reasonable for what you are provided.. Our family is pleased we "happened on" this rental and had a wonderful three day weekend,. The family spent time skiing, tubing, swimming and added a session of ice skating. In fact there is so much to do at Massanutten, they had to choose between Water Park and Tubing. It was a most positive experience and I recommend it to anyone!

We found this property to be quite inviting and an extension of our home away from home. The owners were cordial and were available for any potentioal mishaps during our stay. We had the pleasure of staying a few weeks before the Christmas holiday the owners ensured Christmas decorations were in place to set the mood for the season. Everything that one would anticipate needed in a residence was readily available for our group to include games, the only thing we had to provide was food....Thank you! We had a wonderful time and enjoyed this home, it's excellent for families with children and plenty of space to gather and relax. Massanutten activities are less than five minutes away and the views are just spectacular. We plan on returning in the Summer and look forward to renting this home again. The owners are wonderful people. We highly recommend this property as it is in an ideal location for all activities.

We had a large group go up this year and this house was PERFECT! Not only did it have just the perfect amount of beds and bedrooms but the common areas were large enough to accomodate us all for dinner and socializing. We come to Mass each year and this was the best house to date! We will be back. Thank you Ischingers for opeing up your home to us to share :)
Owner response:Thank you for your kind words, and for taking such good care of our home. We do cater to large groups and unlike other larger home for rent at Massanutten, our home is up at the top of the mountain with fantastc views of the mountains across the valley and the golf course below. The other large homes are either "inland" or at the bottom with no views at all. Our two large common areas offer plenty of room to socialize, eat together, or watch our 55" HDTV. We look forward to having repeat renters and offer them a 10% discount off our current rent rate. Active duty military always get a 10% discount. Till next time...

In November of 2010, we rented the house for our hub for a youth group fall retreat. the house was absolutely perfect! We enjoyed worship in the family room, meals in the kitchen and dining room, and hours of fun in the game room and the den playing games, talking, and praying together. I truly feel the house made the setting for our retreat much more laid back and I honestly believe the kids and adults lives were changed for the better. The water park, parks on property, go carts, mini golf, we all great as well. Thanks so much for trusting us with your house and we look forward to another great weekend with you in the future. Our group of 12 senior golfers has used this home for several years as a base of operations for our annual golf tournament. It is perfect for 12 men, with spacious living rooms, 18 separate beds, and close proximity to several good golf courses. The owners are easy to work with and most accommodating. We would recommend it highly.

The Sungrazer is a lovely home, warm and welcoming and perfect for our family of 16. We've only rented it in the winter, but it would be delightful in the summer as well, as warm weather activities abound. We chose Massanutten for the skiing and snowboarding/water park combination. This home is very clean, has comfortable beds, and provides all the amenities needed. It is nicely decorated, and just makes you feel right at home. We all loved the toasty quilts and cushy sofa. There's a big screen TV in the downstairs family room, and several other TVs. DVD players up and down. Sungrazer has gorgeous views--we particularly enjoyed the lighted slopes after dark. The pizza and subs from the deli beside the check-in area were good. We had dinner at the water park restaurant, and thoroughly enjoyed the buffet. The food was fine, and the selection was terrific. Once again, there was something for everyone. The Sungrazer's driveway is steep, and you have to get used to it. The good news is, if you use the garage, you can park three cars without any being blocked. If you don't mind moving cars around a bit, you can fit five cars in the driveway without any problem. It would be a difficult situation if the driveway were icy. The owners of the home are accommodating and pleasant. Over the years, they have been very nice to work with. In our opinion, you couldn't find a better family vacation house than The Sungrazer.

we have rented this home for six years and we have 8 adults and 10 grandchildrenfrom 7-13. It is the easiest house to have all of us together and is very well equiped and actually sleeps 18! All of us look forward to being there every year and we recommend it whole heartedly. We have never met the owners but have talked to them and had e-mail contact so that we feel we know them and they are very helpful and pleasant.
